והוה כל ארעא לישן חד וממלל חד:
khd wmmll khd lyshn area kl whwh
The whole earth was of one language and of one speech.
2
והוה במטלהון בקדמיתא ואשכחו בקעתא בארעא דבבל ויתיבו תמן:
thmn wythybw dbbl barea bqetha washkkhw bqdmytha bmTlhwn whwh
As they traveled east, they found a plain in the land of Shinar, and they lived there.

ואמרו גבר לחבריה הבו נרמי לבנין ונשרפנון בנורא והות להון לבנתא לאבנא וחימרא הוה להון לשיע:
lshye lhwn hwh wkhymra labna lbntha lhwn whwth bnwra wnshrpnwn lbnyn nrmy hbw lkhbryh gbr wamrw
They said to one another, “Come, let’s make bricks, and burn them thoroughly.” They had brick for stone, and they used tar for mortar.

ואמרו הבו נבני לנא קרתא ומגדלא ורישיה מטי עד צית שמיא ונעביד לנא שום דילמא נתבדר על אפי כל ארעא:
area kl apy el nthbdr dylma shwm lna wnebyd shmya tsyth ed mTy wryshyh wmgdla qrtha lna nbny hbw wamrw
They said, “Come, let’s build ourselves a city, and a tower whose top reaches to the sky, and let’s make a name for ourselves, lest we be scattered abroad on the surface of the whole earth.”

ואתגלי יי לאתפרעא על עובדי קרתא ומגדלא די בנו בני אנשא:
ansha bny bnw dy wmgdla qrtha ewbdy el lathprea yy wathgly
Yahweh came down to see the city and the tower, which the children of men built.

ואמר יי הא עמא חד ולישן חד לכלהון ודין דשריו למעבד וכען לא יתמנע מנהון כל דחשיבו למעבד:
lmebd dkhshybw kl mnhwn ythmne la wken lmebd dshryw wdyn lklhwn khd wlyshn khd ema ha yy wamr
Yahweh said, “Behold, they are one people, and they all have one language, and this is what they begin to do. Now nothing will be withheld from them, which they intend to do.

הבו נתגלי ונבלבל תמן לישנהון דלא ישמעון אנש לישן חבריה:
khbryh lyshn ansh yshmewn dla lyshnhwn thmn wnblbl nthgly hbw
Come, let’s go down, and there confuse their language, that they may not understand one another’s speech.”

ובדר יי יתהון מתמן על אפי כל ארעא ומנעו למבני קרתא:
qrtha lmbny wmnew area kl apy el mthmn ythhwn yy wbdr
So Yahweh scattered them abroad from there on the surface of all the earth. They stopped building the city.

על כן קרא שמה בבל ארי תמן בלבל יי לישן כל ארעא ומתמן בדרנון יי על אפי כל ארעא:
area kl apy el yy bdrnwn wmthmn area kl lyshn yy blbl thmn ary bbl shmh qra kn el
Therefore its name was called Babel, because there Yahweh confused the language of all the earth. From there, Yahweh scattered them abroad on the surface of all the earth.

אלין תולדת שם שם בר מאה שנין ואוליד ית ארפכשד תרתין שנין בתר טופנא:
Twpna bthr shnyn thrthyn arpkshd yth wawlyd shnyn mah br shm shm thwldth alyn
This is the history of the generations of Shem: Shem was one hundred years old when he became the father of Arpachshad two years after the flood.

וחיא שם בתר דאוליד ית ארפכשד חמש מאה שנין ואוליד בנין ובנן:
wbnn bnyn wawlyd shnyn mah khmsh arpkshd yth dawlyd bthr shm wkhya
Shem lived five hundred years after he became the father of Arpachshad, and became the father of more sons and daughters.

וארפכשד חיא תלתין וחמש שנין ואוליד ית שלח:
shlkh yth wawlyd shnyn wkhmsh thlthyn khya warpkshd
Arpachshad lived thirty-five years and became the father of Shelah.

וחיא ארפכשד בתר דאוליד ית שלח ארבע מאה ותלת שנין ואוליד בנין ובנן:
wbnn bnyn wawlyd shnyn wthlth mah arbe shlkh yth dawlyd bthr arpkshd wkhya
Arpachshad lived four hundred three years after he became the father of Shelah, and became the father of more sons and daughters.

ושלח חיא תלתין שנין ואוליד ית עבר:
ebr yth wawlyd shnyn thlthyn khya wshlkh
Shelah lived thirty years, and became the father of Eber.

וחיא שלח בתר דאוליד ית עבר ארבע מאה ותלת שנין ואוליד בנין ובנן:
wbnn bnyn wawlyd shnyn wthlth mah arbe ebr yth dawlyd bthr shlkh wkhya
Shelah lived four hundred three years after he became the father of Eber, and became the father of more sons and daughters.

וחיא עבר תלתין וארבע שנין ואוליד ית פלג:
plg yth wawlyd shnyn warbe thlthyn ebr wkhya
Eber lived thirty-four years, and became the father of Peleg.
17
וחיא עבר בתר דאוליד ית פלג ארבע מאה ותלתין שנין ואוליד בנין ובנן:
wbnn bnyn wawlyd shnyn wthlthyn mah arbe plg yth dawlyd bthr ebr wkhya
Eber lived four hundred thirty years after he became the father of Peleg, and became the father of more sons and daughters.

וחיא פלג תלתין שנין ואוליד ית רעו:
rew yth wawlyd shnyn thlthyn plg wkhya
Peleg lived thirty years, and became the father of Reu.

וחיא פלג בתר דאוליד ית רעו מאתן ותשע שנין ואוליד בנין ובנן:
wbnn bnyn wawlyd shnyn wthshe mathn rew yth dawlyd bthr plg wkhya
Peleg lived two hundred nine years after he became the father of Reu, and became the father of more sons and daughters.

וחיא רעו תלתין ותרתין שנין ואוליד ית שרוג:
shrwg yth wawlyd shnyn wthrthyn thlthyn rew wkhya
Reu lived thirty-two years, and became the father of Serug.
21
וחיא רעו בתר דאוליד ית שרוג מאתן ושבע שנין ואוליד בנין ובנן:
wbnn bnyn wawlyd shnyn wshbe mathn shrwg yth dawlyd bthr rew wkhya
Reu lived two hundred seven years after he became the father of Serug, and became the father of more sons and daughters.

וחיא שרוג תלתין שנין ואוליד ית נחור:
nkhwr yth wawlyd shnyn thlthyn shrwg wkhya
Serug lived thirty years, and became the father of Nahor.
23
וחיא שרוג בתר דאוליד ית נחור מאתן שנין ואוליד בנין ובנן:
wbnn bnyn wawlyd shnyn mathn nkhwr yth dawlyd bthr shrwg wkhya
Serug lived two hundred years after he became the father of Nahor, and became the father of more sons and daughters.

וחיא נחור עשרין ותשע שנין ואוליד ית תרח:
thrkh yth wawlyd shnyn wthshe eshryn nkhwr wkhya
Nahor lived twenty-nine years, and became the father of Terah.
25
וחיא נחור בתר דאוליד ית תרח מאה ותשע עשר שנין ואוליד בנין ובנן:
wbnn bnyn wawlyd shnyn eshr wthshe mah thrkh yth dawlyd bthr nkhwr wkhya
Nahor lived one hundred nineteen years after he became the father of Terah, and became the father of more sons and daughters.

וחיא תרח שבעין שנין ואוליד ית אברם ית נחור וית הרן:
hrn wyth nkhwr yth abrm yth wawlyd shnyn shbeyn thrkh wkhya
Terah lived seventy years, and became the father of Abram, Nahor, and Haran.
27
ואלין תולדת תרח תרח אוליד ית אברם ית נחור וית הרן והרן אוליד ית לוט:
lwT yth awlyd whrn hrn wyth nkhwr yth abrm yth awlyd thrkh thrkh thwldth walyn
Now this is the history of the generations of Terah. Terah became the father of Abram, Nahor, and Haran. Haran became the father of Lot.

ומית הרן על אפי תרח אבוהי בארעא דילדותיה באורא דכסדאי:
dksday bawra dyldwthyh barea abwhy thrkh apy el hrn wmyth
Haran died in the land of his birth, in Ur of the Chaldees, while his father Terah was still alive.

ונסיב אברם ונחור להון נשין שום אתת אברם שרי ושום אתת נחור מלכה בת הרן אבוהא דמלכה ואבוהא דיסכה:
dyskh wabwha dmlkh abwha hrn bth mlkh nkhwr athth wshwm shry abrm athth shwm nshyn lhwn wnkhwr abrm wnsyb
Abram and Nahor married wives. The name of Abram’s wife was Sarai, and the name of Nahor’s wife was Milcah, the daughter of Haran, who was also the father of Iscah.

ודבר תרח ית אברם בריה וית לוט בר הרן בר בריה וית שרי כלתיה אתת אברם בריה ונפקו עמהון מאורא דכסדאי למיזל לארעא דכנען ואתו עד חרן ויתיבו תמן:
thmn wythybw khrn ed wathw dknen larea lmyzl dksday mawra emhwn wnpqw bryh abrm athth klthyh shry wyth bryh br hrn br lwT wyth bryh abrm yth thrkh wdbr
Terah took Abram his son, Lot the son of Haran, his son’s son, and Sarai his daughter-in-law, his son Abram’s wife. They went from Ur of the Chaldees, to go into the land of Canaan. They came to Haran and lived there.
