ܐܡܪ ܐܢܐ ܕܝܢ ܕܟܡܐ ܙܒܢܐ ܕܝܪܬܐ ܛܠܐ ܠܐ ܦܪܝܫ ܡܢ ܥܒܕܐ ܟܕ ܡܪܐ ܗܘ ܕܟܠܗܘܢ
'mr 'n' dyn dkm' zbn' dyrth' Tl' l' prysh mn ebd' kd mr' hw dklhwn
But I say that so long as the heir is a child, he is no different from a bondservant, though he is lord of all;

ܐܠܐ ܬܚܝܬ ܐܦܛܪܘܦܐ ܐܝܬܘܗܝ ܘܪܒܝ ܒܬܐ ܥܕܡܐ ܠܙܒܢܐ ܕܣܡ ܐܒܘܗܝ
'l' thkhyth 'pTrwp' 'ythwhy wrby bth' edm' lzbn' dsm 'bwhy
but is under guardians and stewards until the day appointed by the father.

ܗܟܢܐ ܐܦ ܚܢܢ ܟܕ ܝܠܘܕܐ ܗܘܝܢ ܬܚܝܬ ܐܣܛܘܟܣܘܗܝ ܕܥܠܡܐ ܡܫܥܒܕܝܢ ܗܘܝܢ
hkn' 'p khnn kd ylwd' hwyn thkhyth 'sTwkswhy delm' mshebdyn hwyn
So we also, when we were children, were held in bondage under the elemental principles of the world.

ܟܕ ܡܛܐ ܕܝܢ ܫܘܠܡܗ ܕܙܒܢܐ ܫܕܪ ܐܠܗܐ ܠܒܪܗ ܘܗܘܐ ܡܢ ܐܢܬܬܐ ܘܗܘܐ ܬܚܝܬ ܢܡܘܣܐ
kd mT' dyn shwlmh dzbn' shdr 'lh' lbrh whw' mn 'nthth' whw' thkhyth nmws'
But when the fullness of the time came, God sent out his Son, born to a woman, born under the law,

ܕܠܐܝܠܝܢ ܕܬܚܝܬ ܢܡܘܣܐ ܐܢܘܢ ܢܙܒܢ ܘܢܩܒܠ ܣܝܡܬ ܒܢܝܐ
dl'ylyn dthkhyth nmws' 'nwn nzbn wnqbl symth bny'
that he might redeem those who were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of children.

ܘܕܐܝܬܝܟܘܢ ܕܝܢ ܒܢܝܐ ܫܕܪ ܐܠܗܐ ܪܘܚܐ ܕܒܪܗ ܠܠܒܘܬܟܘܢ ܗܝ ܕܩܪܝܐ ܐܒܐ ܐܒܘܢ
wd'ythykwn dyn bny' shdr 'lh' rwkh' dbrh llbwthkwn hy dqry' 'b' 'bwn
And because you are children, God sent out the Spirit of his Son into your hearts, crying, “Abba, Father!”

ܡܟܝܠ ܠܐ ܗܘܝܬܘܢ ܥܒܕܐ ܐܠܐ ܒܢܝܐ ܘܐܢ ܒܢܝܐ ܐܦ ܝܪܬܐ ܕܐܠܗܐ ܒܝܕ ܝܫܘܥ ܡܫܝܚܐ
mkyl l' hwythwn ebd' 'l' bny' w'n bny' 'p yrth' d'lh' byd yshwe mshykh'
So you are no longer a bondservant, but a son; and if a son, then an heir of God through Christ.

ܗܝܕܝܢ ܓܝܪ ܟܕ ܠܐ ܝܕܥܝܢ ܗܘܝܬܘܢ ܠܐܠܗܐ ܦܠܚܬܘܢ ܠܗܢܘܢ ܕܡܢ ܟܝܢܗܘܢ ܠܐ ܗܘܘ ܐܠܗܐ
hydyn gyr kd l' ydeyn hwythwn l'lh' plkhthwn lhnwn dmn kynhwn l' hww 'lh'
However at that time, not knowing God, you were in bondage to those who by nature are not gods.

ܗܫܐ ܕܝܢ ܕܝܕܥܬܘܢ ܠܐܠܗܐ ܘܝܬܝܪܐܝܬ ܕܐܬܝܕܥܬܘܢ ܡܢ ܐܠܗܐ ܬܘܒ ܗܦܟܬܘܢ ܠܟܘܢ ܥܠ ܗܢܘܢ ܐܣܛܘܟܣܐ ܡܪܥܐ ܘܡܣܟܢܐ ܘܡܢ ܕܪܝܫ ܨܒܝܬܘܢ ܠܡܫܬܥܒܕܘ ܠܗܘܢ
hsh' dyn dydethwn l'lh' wythyr'yth d'thydethwn mn 'lh' thwb hpkthwn lkwn el hnwn 'sTwks' mre' wmskn' wmn drysh tsbythwn lmshthebdw lhwn
But now that you have come to know God, or rather to be known by God, why do you turn back again to the weak and miserable elemental principles, to which you desire to be in bondage all over again?

ܝܘܡܐ ܘܝܪܚܐ ܘܙܒܢܐ ܘܫܢܝܐ ܢܛܪܝܬܘܢ
ywm' wyrkh' wzbn' wshny' nTrythwn
You observe days, months, seasons, and years.

ܕܚܠ ܐܢܐ ܕܠܡܐ ܣܪܝܩܐܝܬ ܠܐܝܬ ܒܟܘܢ
dkhl 'n' dlm' sryq'yth l'yth bkwn
I am afraid for you, that I might have wasted my labor for you.

ܗܘܘ ܐܟܘܬܝ ܡܛܠ ܕܐܦ ܐܢܐ ܐܟܘܬܟܘܢ ܗܘܝܬ ܐܚܝ ܒܥܐ ܐܢܐ ܡܢܟܘܢ ܠܐ ܡܕܡ ܐܣܟܠܬܘܢ ܒܝ
hww 'kwthy mTl d'p 'n' 'kwthkwn hwyth 'khy be' 'n' mnkwn l' mdm 'sklthwn by
I beg you, brothers, become as I am, for I also have become as you are. You did me no wrong,

ܝܕܥܝܢ ܐܢܬܘܢ ܓܝܪ ܕܒܟܪܝܗܘܬ ܒܣܪܝ ܣܒܪܬܟܘܢ ܗܘܝܬ ܡܢ ܩܕܝܡ
ydeyn 'nthwn gyr dbkryhwth bsry sbrthkwn hwyth mn qdym
but you know that because of weakness in the flesh I preached the Good News to you the first time.

ܘܢܣܝܘܢܐ ܕܒܣܪܝ ܠܐ ܫܛܬܘܢ ܘܠܐ ܢܕܬܘܢ ܐܠܐ ܐܝܟ ܕܠܡܠܐܟܐ ܕܐܠܗܐ ܩܒܠܬܘܢܢܝ ܘܐܝܟ ܕܠܝܫܘܥ ܡܫܝܚܐ
wnsywn' dbsry l' shTthwn wl' ndthwn 'l' 'yk dlml'k' d'lh' qblthwnny w'yk dlyshwe mshykh'
That which was a temptation to you in my flesh, you didn’t despise nor reject; but you received me as an angel of God, even as Christ Jesus.

ܐܝܟܘ ܗܟܝܠ ܛܘܒܟܘܢ ܣܗܕ ܐܢܐ ܓܝܪ ܥܠܝܟܘܢ ܕܐܠܘ ܡܫܟܚܐ ܗܘܬ ܥܝܢܝܟܘܢ ܚܨܝܢ ܗܘܝܬܘܢ ܘܝܗܒܝܢ ܠܝ
'ykw hkyl Twbkwn shd 'n' gyr elykwn d'lw mshkkh' hwth eynykwn khtsyn hwythwn wyhbyn ly
What was the blessing you enjoyed? For I testify to you that, if possible, you would have plucked out your eyes and given them to me.

ܕܠܡܐ ܒܥܠܕܒܒܐ ܗܘܝܬ ܠܟܘܢ ܕܐܟܪܙܬ ܠܟܘܢ ܫܪܪܐ
dlm' beldbb' hwyth lkwn d'krzth lkwn shrr'
So then, have I become your enemy by telling you the truth?

ܚܣܡܝܢ ܒܟܘܢ ܠܐ ܗܘܐ ܠܫܦܝܪܬܐ ܐܠܐ ܠܡܚܒܫܟܘܢ ܗܘ ܨܒܝܢ ܕܐܢܬܘܢ ܬܗܘܘܢ ܚܣܡܝܢ ܒܗܘܢ
khsmyn bkwn l' hw' lshpyrth' 'l' lmkhbshkwn hw tsbyn d'nthwn thhwwn khsmyn bhwn
They zealously seek you in no good way. No, they desire to alienate you, that you may seek them.

ܫܦܝܪ ܗܘ ܕܝܢ ܕܬܬܚܣܡܘܢ ܒܫܦܝܪܬܐ ܒܟܠܙܒܢ ܘܠܐ ܐܡܬܝ ܕܠܘܬܟܘܢ ܐܢܐ ܒܠܚܘܕ
shpyr hw dyn dththkhsmwn bshpyrth' bklzbn wl' 'mthy dlwthkwn 'n' blkhwd
But it is always good to be zealous in a good cause, and not only when I am present with you.

ܒܢܝ ܐܝܠܝܢ ܕܡܢ ܕܪܝܫ ܡܚܒܠ ܐܢܐ ܥܕܡܐ ܕܢܬܬܨܝܪ ܒܟܘܢ ܡܫܝܚܐ
bny 'ylyn dmn drysh mkhbl 'n' edm' dnththtsyr bkwn mshykh'
My little children, of whom I am again in travail until Christ is formed in you—

ܨܒܐ ܗܘܝܬ ܕܝܢ ܕܐܗܘܐ ܠܘܬܟܘܢ ܗܫܐ ܘܐܫܚܠܦ ܒܪܬ ܩܠܝ ܡܛܠ ܕܬܡܝܗ ܐܢܐ ܒܟܘܢ
tsb' hwyth dyn d'hw' lwthkwn hsh' w'shkhlp brth qly mTl dthmyh 'n' bkwn
but I could wish to be present with you now, and to change my tone, for I am perplexed about you.

ܐܡܪܘ ܠܝ ܐܢܬܘܢ ܐܝܠܝܢ ܕܨܒܝܢ ܕܢܗܘܘܢ ܬܚܝܬ ܢܡܘܣܐ ܠܗ ܠܢܡܘܣܐ ܠܐ ܫܡܥܝܢ ܐܢܬܘܢ
'mrw ly 'nthwn 'ylyn dtsbyn dnhwwn thkhyth nmws' lh lnmws' l' shmeyn 'nthwn
Tell me, you that desire to be under the law, don’t you listen to the law?

ܟܬܝܒ ܓܝܪ ܕܠܐܒܪܗܡ ܬܪܝܢ ܒܢܝܢ ܗܘܘ ܠܗ ܚܕ ܡܢ ܐܡܬܐ ܘܚܕ ܡܢ ܚܐܪܬܐ
kthyb gyr dl'brhm thryn bnyn hww lh khd mn 'mth' wkhd mn kh'rth'
For it is written that Abraham had two sons, one by the servant, and one by the free woman.

ܐܠܐ ܗܘ ܕܡܢ ܐܡܬܐ ܒܒܣܪ ܐܬܝܠܕ ܗܘ ܕܝܢ ܕܡܢ ܚܐܪܬܐ ܒܡܘܠܟܢܐ ܗܘܐ
'l' hw dmn 'mth' bbsr 'thyld hw dyn dmn kh'rth' bmwlkn' hw'
However, the son by the servant was born according to the flesh, but the son by the free woman was born through promise.

ܗܠܝܢ ܕܝܢ ܐܝܬܝܗܝܢ ܦܠܐܬܐ ܕܬܪܬܝܢ ܕܝܬܩܣ ܚܕܐ ܕܡܢ ܛܘܪ ܣܝܢܝ ܝܠܕܐ ܠܥܒܕܘܬܐ ܕܐܝܬܝܗ ܗܓܪ
hlyn dyn 'ythyhyn pl'th' dthrthyn dythqs khd' dmn Twr syny yld' lebdwth' d'ythyh hgr
These things contain an allegory, for these are two covenants. One is from Mount Sinai, bearing children to bondage, which is Hagar.

ܗܓܪ ܓܝܪ ܛܘܪܐ ܗܘ ܕܣܝܢܝ ܕܒܐܪܒܝܐ ܘܫܠܡܐ ܠܗܕܐ ܐܘܪܫܠܡ ܘܦܠܚܐ ܥܒܕܘܬܐ ܗܝ ܘܒܢܝܗ
hgr gyr Twr' hw dsyny db'rby' wshlm' lhd' 'wrshlm wplkh' ebdwth' hy wbnyh
For this Hagar is Mount Sinai in Arabia, and answers to the Jerusalem that exists now, for she is in bondage with her children.

ܗܝ ܕܝܢ ܐܘܪܫܠܡ ܥܠܝܬܐ ܚܐܪܬܐ ܗܝ ܕܐܝܬܝܗ ܐܡܢ
hy dyn 'wrshlm elyth' kh'rth' hy d'ythyh 'mn
But the Jerusalem that is above is free, which is the mother of us all.

ܟܬܝܒ ܓܝܪ ܕܐܬܒܣܡܝ ܥܩܪܬܐ ܗܝ ܕܠܐ ܝܠܕܐ ܘܐܬܦܨܚܝ ܘܓܥܝ ܗܝ ܕܠܐ ܡܚܒܠܐ ܡܛܠ ܕܣܓܝܘ ܒܢܝܗ ܕܨܕܝܬܐ ܝܬܝܪ ܡܢ ܒܢܝܗ ܕܒܥܝܠܬܐ
kthyb gyr d'thbsmy eqrth' hy dl' yld' w'thptskhy wgey hy dl' mkhbl' mTl dsgyw bnyh dtsdyth' ythyr mn bnyh dbeylth'
For it is written,
“Rejoice, you barren who don’t bear.
Break out and shout, you that don’t travail.
For more are the children of the desolate than of her who has a husband.”

ܚܢܢ ܕܝܢ ܐܚܝ ܐܝܟ ܐܝܣܚܩ ܒܢܝ ܡܘܠܟܢܐ ܚܢܢ
khnn dyn 'khy 'yk 'yskhq bny mwlkn' khnn
Now we, brothers, as Isaac was, are children of promise.

ܘܐܝܟ ܕܗܝܕܝܢ ܗܘ ܕܝܠܝܕ ܗܘܐ ܒܒܣܪܐ ܪܕܦ ܗܘܐ ܠܗܘ ܕܒܪܘܚܐ ܗܟܢܐ ܐܦ ܗܫܐ
w'yk dhydyn hw dylyd hw' bbsr' rdp hw' lhw dbrwkh' hkn' 'p hsh'
But as then, he who was born according to the flesh persecuted him who was born according to the Spirit, so also it is now.

ܐܠܐ ܡܢܐ ܐܡܪ ܟܬܒܐ ܐܦܩܝܗ ܠܐܡܬܐ ܘܠܒܪܗ ܡܛܠ ܕܠܐ ܢܐܪܬ ܒܪܗ ܕܐܡܬܐ ܥܡ ܒܪܗ ܕܚܐܪܬܐ
'l' mn' 'mr kthb' 'pqyh l'mth' wlbrh mTl dl' n'rth brh d'mth' em brh dkh'rth'
However what does the Scripture say? “Throw out the servant and her son, for the son of the servant will not inherit with the son of the free woman.”

ܚܢܢ ܗܟܝܠ ܐܚܝ ܠܐ ܗܘܝܢ ܒܢܝ ܐܡܬܐ ܐܠܐ ܒܢܝ ܚܐܪܬܐ
khnn hkyl 'khy l' hwyn bny 'mth' 'l' bny kh'rth'
So then, brothers, we are not children of a servant, but of the free woman.
