Now after these things, in the reign of Artaxerxes king of Persia, Ezra the son of Seraiah, the son of Azariah, the son of Hilkiah,

the son of Shallum, the son of Zadok, the son of Ahitub,

ܒܪ ܐܡܪܝܐ ܒܪ ܥܙܪܝܐ ܒܪ ܡܪܝܘܬ

the son of Amariah, the son of Azariah, the son of Meraioth,

ܒܪ ܙܪܚܝܐ ܒܪ ܥܕܝ ܒܪ ܒܩܝ

the son of Zerahiah, the son of Uzzi, the son of Bukki,

ܒܪ ܐܒܝܫܘܥ ܒܪ ܦܝܢܚܣ ܒܪ ܐܠܝܥܙܪ ܒܪ ܐܗܪܘܢ ܟܗܢܐ

the son of Abishua, the son of Phinehas, the son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron the chief priest—

ܪܫܐ ܗܘܐ ܥܙܪܐ ܕܣ̣ܠܩ ܡܢ ܒܒܠ ܗܘ ܗ̣ܘܐ ܣ̇ܦܪܐ ܚܟܝܡܐ ܒܢܡܘܣܐ ܕܡܘܫܐ ܕܝ̣ܗܒ ܠܗ ܡܪܝܐ ܐܠܗܐ ܕܐܝܣܪܝܠ ܘܝ̣ܗܒ ܠܗ ܡܠܟܐ ܡܘܗܒܬܐ ܕܐܝܟܢܐ ܕܨ̇ܒܐ ܢܗܠܟ ܒܢܡܘܣܗ ܕܡܪܝܐ

this Ezra went up from Babylon. He was a skilled scribe in the law of Moses, which Yahweh, the God of Israel, had given; and the king granted him all his request, according to Yahweh his God’s hand on him.

ܘܣܠܩܘ ܡܢ ܒܢ̈ܝ ܐܝܣܪܝܠ ܘܡܢ ܟܘܡܪ̈ܐ ܘܠܘܝ̈ܐ ܗܠܝܢ ܡܫܡ̈ܫܢܐ ܘܡܢ ܬ̇ܪ̈ܥܐ ܘܢ̈ܬܢܝܐ ܘܡܢ ܐܝܠܝܢ ܕܣܠܩܘ ܠܐܘܪܫܠܡ ܒܫܢܬ ܫܒܥ ܠܐܪܛܚܫܫܬ ܡܠܟܐ

Some of the children of Israel, including some of the priests, the Levites, the singers, the gatekeepers, and the temple servants went up to Jerusalem in the seventh year of Artaxerxes the king.

ܘܐܬܘ ܠܐܘܪܫܠܡ ܒܝܪܚܐ ܕܚܡܫܐ ܗܝ ܗܝ ܫܢܬ ܫܒܥ ܠܡܠܟܐ
lmlk' shbe shnth hy hy dkhmsh' byrkh' l'wrshlm w'thw
He came to Jerusalem in the fifth month, which was in the seventh year of the king.

ܡܛܠ ܕܒܝܪܚܐ ܩܕܡܝܐ ܫ̇ܪܝܘ ܠܡܣܩ ܡܢ ܒܒܠ ܘܒܚܕ ܒܝܪܚܐ ܕܚܡܫܐ ܐܬܘ ܠܐܘܪܫܠܡ ܐܝܟ ܐܝ̣ܕܐ ܕܐܠܗܐ ܕܐܛܐܒܬ ܠܗܘܢ

For on the first day of the first month he began to go up from Babylon; and on the first day of the fifth month he came to Jerusalem, according to the good hand of his God on him.

ܡܛܠ ܕܥܙܪܐ ܐܬܩܢ ܠܒܗ ܠܡܥܒܕ ܢܡܘܣܗ ܕܡܪܝܐ ܘܠܡܥܒܕ ܘܠܡܠܦܘ ܒܐܝܣܪܐܝܠ ܢܡܘ̈ܣܐ ܘܕܝ̈ܢܐ
wdyn' nmws' b'ysr'yl wlmlpw wlmebd dmry' nmwsh lmebd lbh 'thqn dezr' mTl
For Ezra had set his heart to seek Yahweh’s law, and to do it, and to teach statutes and ordinances in Israel.

ܘܗܢܐ ܦܪܫܓܢܐ ܕܐܓܪܬܐ ܕܝ̣ܗܒ ܡܠܟܐ ܐܪܛܚܫܫܬ ܠܥܙܪܐ ܟܘܡܪܐ ܣ̇ܦܪܐ ܕܦ̈ܬܓܡܐ ܘܦܘܩ̈ܕܢܘܗܝ ܕܡܪܝܐ ܘܢܡܘ̈ܣܘܗܝ ܥܠ ܟܠܗ ܐܝܣܪܝܠ
'ysryl klh el wnmwswhy dmry' wpwqdnwhy dpthgm' spr' kwmr' lezr' 'rTkhshshth mlk' dyhb d'grth' prshgn' whn'
Now this is the copy of the letter that King Artaxerxes gave to Ezra the priest, the scribe, even the scribe of the words of Yahweh’s commandments, and of his statutes to Israel:

ארתחשסתא מלך מלכיא לעזרא כהנא ספר דתא די אלה שמיא גמיר וכענת

Artaxerxes, king of kings, To Ezra the priest, the scribe of the law of the perfect God of heaven. Now

מני שים טעם די כל מתנדב במלכותי מן עמא ישראל וכהנוהי ולויא למהך לירושלם עמך יהך
yhk emk lyrwshlm lmhk wlwya wkhnwhy yshral ema mn bmlkwthy mthndb kl dy Tem shym mny
I make a decree that all those of the people of Israel and their priests and the Levites in my realm, who intend of their own free will to go to Jerusalem, go with you.

כל קבל די מן קדם מלכא ושבעת יעטהי שליח לבקרה על יהוד ולירושלם בדת אלהך די בידך
bydk dy alhk bdth wlyrwshlm yhwd el lbqrh shlykh yeThy wshbeth mlka qdm mn dy qbl kl
Because you are sent by the king and his seven counselors to inquire concerning Judah and Jerusalem, according to the law of your God which is in your hand,

ולהיבלה כסף ודהב די מלכא ויעטוהי התנדבו לאלה ישראל די בירושלם משכנה
mshknh byrwshlm dy yshral lalh hthndbw wyeTwhy mlka dy wdhb ksp wlhyblh
and to carry the silver and gold, which the king and his counselors have freely offered to the God of Israel, whose habitation is in Jerusalem,

וכל כסף ודהב די תהשכח בכל מדינת בבל עם התנדבות עמא וכהניא מתנדבין לבית אלההם די בירושלם
byrwshlm dy alhhm lbyth mthndbyn wkhnya ema hthndbwth em bbl mdynth bkl thhshkkh dy wdhb ksp wkl
and all the silver and gold that you will find in all the province of Babylon, with the free will offering of the people and of the priests, offering willingly for the house of their God which is in Jerusalem.

כל קבל דנה אספרנא תקנא בכספא דנה תורין ׀ דכרין אמרין ומנחתהון ונסכיהון ותקרב המו על מדבחה די בית אלהכם די בירושלם
byrwshlm dy alhkm byth dy mdbkhh el hmw wthqrb wnskyhwn wmnkhthhwn amryn thwryndkryn dnh bkspa thqna asprna dnh qbl kl
Therefore you shall with all diligence buy with this money bulls, rams, and lambs with their meal offerings and their drink offerings, and shall offer them on the altar of the house of your God which is in Jerusalem.

ומה די עלך ועל אחך ייטב בשאר כספא ודהבה למעבד כרעות אלהכם תעבדון
thebdwn alhkm krewth lmebd wdhbh kspa bshar yyTb akhk wel elk dy wmh
Whatever seems good to you and to your brothers to do with the rest of the silver and the gold, do that according to the will of your God.
19
ומאניא די מתיהבין לך לפלחן בית אלהך השלם קדם אלה ירושלם
yrwshlm alh qdm hshlm alhk byth lplkhn lk mthyhbyn dy wmanya
The vessels that are given to you for the service of the house of your God, deliver before the God of Jerusalem.
20
ושאר חשחות בית אלהך די יפל לך למנתן תנתן מן בית גנזי מלכא
mlka gnzy byth mn thnthn lmnthn lk ypl dy alhk byth khshkhwth wshar
Whatever more will be needed for the house of your God, which you may have occasion to give, give it out of the king’s treasure house.

ומני אנה ארתחשסתא מלכא שים טעם לכל גזבריא די בעבר נהרה די כל די ישאלנכון עזרא כהנא ספר דתא די אלה שמיא אספרנא יתעבד
ythebd asprna shmya alh dy dtha spr khna ezra yshalnkwn dy kl dy nhrh bebr dy gzbrya lkl Tem shym mlka arthkhshstha anh wmny
I, even I, Artaxerxes the king, make a decree to all the treasurers who are beyond the River, that whatever Ezra the priest, the scribe of the law of the God of heaven, requires of you, it shall be done with all diligence,
22
עד כסף ככרין מאה ועד חנטין כורין מאה ועד חמר בתין מאה ועד בתין משח מאה ומלח די לא כתב
kthb la dy wmlkh mah mshkh bthyn wed mah bthyn khmr wed mah kwryn khnTyn wed mah kkryn ksp ed
up to one hundred talents of silver, and to one hundred cors of wheat, and to one hundred baths of wine, and to one hundred baths of oil, and salt without prescribing how much.
23
כל די מן טעם אלה שמיא יתעבד אדרזדא לבית אלה שמיא די למה להוא קצף על מלכות מלכא ובנוהי
wbnwhy mlka mlkwth el qtsp lhwa lmh dy shmya alh lbyth adrzda ythebd shmya alh Tem mn dy kl
Whatever is commanded by the God of heaven, let it be done exactly for the house of the God of heaven; for why should there be wrath against the realm of the king and his sons?

ולכם מהודעין די כל כהניא ולויא זמריא תרעיא נתיניא ופלחי בית אלהא דנה מנדה בלו והלך לא שליט למרמא עליהם {פ}

Also we inform you that it shall not be lawful to impose tribute, custom, or toll on any of the priests, Levites, singers, gatekeepers, temple servants, or laborers of this house of God.

ואנת עזרא כחכמת אלהך די בידך מני שפטין ודינין די להון דאינין לכל עמא די בעבר נהרה לכל ידעי דתי אלהך ודי לא ידע תהודעון
thhwdewn yde la wdy alhk dthy ydey lkl nhrh bebr dy ema lkl daynyn lhwn dy wdynyn shpTyn mny bydk dy alhk kkhkmth ezra wanth
You, Ezra, according to the wisdom of your God that is in your hand, appoint magistrates and judges who may judge all the people who are beyond the River, who all know the laws of your God; and teach him who doesn’t know them.

וכל די לא להוא עבד דתא די אלהך ודתא די מלכא אספרנא דינה להוא מתעבד מנה הן למות הן לשרשי הן לענש נכסין ולאסורין {פ}

Whoever will not do the law of your God and the law of the king, let judgment be executed on him with all diligence, whether it is to death, or to banishment, or to confiscation of goods, or to imprisonment.

ܒܪܝܟ ܐܢܬ ܡܪܝܐ ܐܠܗܐ ܕܐܒ̈ܗܝܢ ܕܝ̣ܗܒ ܡܠܬܐ ܗܕܐ ܒܠܒܗ ܕܡܠܟܐ ܠܡܫܒܚܘ ܒܝܬܐ ܕܡܪܝܐ ܕܒܐܘܪܫܠܡ
db'wrshlm dmry' byth' lmshbkhw dmlk' blbh hd' mlth' dyhb d'bhyn 'lh' mry' 'nth bryk
Blessed be Yahweh, the God of our fathers, who has put such a thing as this in the king’s heart, to beautify Yahweh’s house which is in Jerusalem;

ܘܥܠܝ ܐܪܡܝ ܚܣܕܐ ܩܕܡ ܡܠܟܐ ܘܩܕܡ ܟܠ ܪ̈ܘܪܒܢܝ ܡܠܟܐ ܓܢܒܪ̈ܐ ܘܐܢܐ ܐܬܥ̇ܫܢܬ ܐܝܟܢܐ ܕܗܘܬ ܥܠܝ ܐܝܕܗ ܕܡܪܝܐ ܐܠܗܝ ܘܓܒ̇ܝܬ ܡܢ ܐܝܣܪܐܝܠ ܐܢܫܐ ܪ̈ܫܐ ܕܢܣܩܘܢ ܥܡܝ
emy dnsqwn rsh' 'nsh' 'ysr'yl mn wgbyth 'lhy dmry' 'ydh ely dhwth 'ykn' 'theshnth w'n' gnbr' mlk' rwrbny kl wqdm mlk' qdm khsd' 'rmy wely
and has extended loving kindness to me before the king and his counselors, and before all the king’s mighty princes. I was strengthened according to Yahweh my God’s hand on me, and I gathered together chief men out of Israel to go up with me.
