והוה פתגם נבואה מן קדם יי עמי למימר:
lmymr emy yy qdm mn nbwah pthgm whwh
Yahweh’s word came again to me, saying,
2
בר אדם אתנבי על תרתין מדינן דאינון כתרתין נשין די בנת אמא חדא הואה:
hwah khda ama bnth dy nshyn kthrthyn daynwn mdynn thrthyn el athnby adm br
“Son of man, there were two women, the daughters of one mother.

וטעאה במצרים בתר פולחן טעותהון טעאה תמן פלחא לטעותא ותמן קלקלא עובדיהן:
ewbdyhn qlqla wthmn lTewtha plkha thmn Teah Tewthhwn pwlkhn bthr bmtsrym wTeah
They played the prostitute in Egypt. They played the prostitute in their youth. Their breasts were fondled there, and their youthful nipples were caressed there.

ושמהתהן אהלה רבתא ואהליבה אחתה והואה משמשן קדמי ואצלחא בבנין ובנן ושמהתהן שומרון אהלה וירושלם אהליבה:
ahlybh wyrwshlm ahlh shwmrwn wshmhthhn wbnn bbnyn watslkha qdmy mshmshn whwah akhthh wahlybh rbtha ahlh wshmhthhn
Their names were Oholah the elder, and Oholibah her sister. They became mine, and they bore sons and daughters. As for their names, Samaria is Oholah, and Jerusalem Oholibah.

וטעת אהלה מבתר פולחני ואתרעיאת למטעי בתר רחימהא בתר בני אתור קריבהא:
qrybha athwr bny bthr rkhymha bthr lmTey wathreyath pwlkhny mbthr ahlh wTeth
“Oholah played the prostitute when she was mine. She doted on her lovers, on the Assyrians her neighbors,

לבושי גמיר שלטונין וטורנין עולימי חמדתא כולהון פרשין רכבי סוסון:
swswn rkby prshyn kwlhwn khmdtha ewlymy wTwrnyn shlTwnyn gmyr lbwshy
who were clothed with blue—governors and rulers, all of them desirable young men, horsemen riding on horses.

ואתרעיאת למטעי בתריהון עולימי בני אתור כולהון ובכל דאתרעיאת בכל פולחן טעותהון אסתאבת:
asthabth Tewthhwn pwlkhn bkl dathreyath wbkl kwlhwn athwr bny ewlymy bthryhwn lmTey wathreyath
She gave herself as a prostitute to them, all of them the choicest men of Assyria. She defiled herself with the idols of whomever she lusted after.

וית פולחן טעותא דהוה עמה ממצרים לא שבקת ארי יתה אפלחו לטעותה ואינון אלפוהא עובדין בישין ושפכו טעותהון עלה:
elh Tewthhwn wshpkw byshyn ewbdyn alpwha waynwn lTewthh aplkhw ythh ary shbqth la mmtsrym emh dhwh Tewtha pwlkhn wyth
She hasn’t left her prostitution since leaving Egypt; for in her youth they lay with her. They caressed her youthful nipples and they poured out their prostitution on her.

בכן מסרתיהא ביד רחימהא ביד בני אתוון דאתרעיאת למטעי בתריהון:
bthryhwn lmTey dathreyath athwwn bny byd rkhymha byd msrthyha bkn
“Therefore I delivered her into the hand of her lovers, into the hand of the Assyrians on whom she doted.

אינון גליאו קלנה בנהא ובנתהא שבו ועמה בחרבא קטילו והות שום למדינתא ופורענות דינין עבדו בגוה:
bgwh ebdw dynyn wpwrenwth lmdyntha shwm whwth qTylw bkhrba wemh shbw wbnthha bnha qlnh glyaw aynwn
These uncovered her nakedness. They took her sons and her daughters, and they killed her with the sword. She became a byword among women; for they executed judgments on her.

וחזת אחתה אהליבה וחבילת רחימתא מנה וית טעותהא מטעות אחתה:
akhthh mTewth Tewthha wyth mnh rkhymtha wkhbylth ahlybh akhthh wkhzth
“Her sister Oholibah saw this, yet she was more corrupt in her lusting than she, and in her prostitution which was more depraved than the prostitution of her sister.

בתר בני אתור אתרעיאת למטעי שלטונין וטורנין קריבין לבושי גמר ופרשין רכבי סוסון עולימי חמדתא כולהון:
kwlhwn khmdtha ewlymy swswn rkby wprshyn gmr lbwshy qrybyn wTwrnyn shlTwnyn lmTey athreyath athwr bny bthr
She lusted after the Assyrians, governors and rulers—her neighbors, clothed most gorgeously, horsemen riding on horses, all of them desirable young men.

וגלי קדמי ארי אסתאבת אורחא חדא שוי לתרתיהן:
lthrthyhn shwy khda awrkha asthabth ary qdmy wgly
I saw that she was defiled. They both went the same way.

ואוסיפת על טעותה וחזת גברין מצירין על כתלא צלמי כסדאי מצירין בסממניא:
bsmmnya mtsyryn ksday tslmy kthla el mtsyryn gbryn wkhzth Tewthh el wawsypth
“She increased her prostitution; for she saw men portrayed on the wall, the images of the Chaldeans portrayed with red,

אסירין זרזין בחרציהון מחתין קולסין ברישיהון חיזו גברין כולהון דמות בני בבל מדינת כסדאי ארע ילדותהון:
yldwthhwn are ksday mdynth bbl bny dmwth kwlhwn gbryn khyzw bryshyhwn qwlsyn mkhthyn bkhrtsyhwn zrzyn asyryn
dressed with belts on their waists, with flowing turbans on their heads, all of them looking like princes, after the likeness of the Babylonians in Chaldea, the land of their birth.

ואתרעיאת למיטעי בתריהון בתר חיזו עינהא ושלחת אזגדין לותהון למדינת ארע כסדאי:
ksday are lmdynth lwthhwn azgdyn wshlkhth eynha khyzw bthr bthryhwn lmyTey wathreyath
As soon as she saw them, she lusted after them and sent messengers to them into Chaldea.

ואתו לותה בני בבל למעבד רחמו וסאיבו יתה בטעותהון ואסתאבת בהון עד דקצת נפשה בהון:
bhwn npshh dqtsth ed bhwn wasthabth bTewthhwn ythh wsaybw rkhmw lmebd bbl bny lwthh wathw
The Babylonians came to her into the bed of love, and they defiled her with their prostitution. She was polluted with them, and her soul was alienated from them.

ואתגליאת בהתתה ואתחזי קלנה ורחיק מימרי יתה כמא דרחיק מימרי ית אחתה:
akhthh yth mymry drkhyq kma ythh mymry wrkhyq qlnh wathkhzy bhththh wathglyath
So she uncovered her prostitution and uncovered her nakedness. Then my soul was alienated from her, just like my soul was alienated from her sister.
19
ואסגיאת ית טעותה לאדכרא ית יומין דמלקדמין דטעת בהון כד הות בארעא דמצרים:
dmtsrym barea hwth kd bhwn dTeth dmlqdmyn ywmyn yth ladkra Tewthh yth wasgyath
Yet she multiplied her prostitution, remembering the days of her youth, in which she had played the prostitute in the land of Egypt.

ואתרעיאת למהוי שמוטא להון דבסר חמרין בסריהון וצחנת סוסון צחנתהון:
tskhnthhwn swswn wtskhnth bsryhwn khmryn dbsr lhwn shmwTa lmhwy wathreyath
She lusted after their lovers, whose flesh is as the flesh of donkeys, and whose issue is like the issue of horses.
21
ואדכרת ית חובי עצת חטאך דמלקדמין במעבדיך ממצרים רחימו בדיל חטאי ינקותיך:
ynqwthyk khTay bdyl rkhymw mmtsrym bmebdyk dmlqdmyn khTak etsth khwby yth wadkrth
Thus you called to memory the lewdness of your youth, in the caressing of your nipples by the Egyptians because of your youthful breasts.

בכן אהליבה כדנן אמר יי אלהים הא אנא מיתי בגלי ית רחימך עלך ית דקצת נפשיך בהון ואיתינון עלך מסחור סחור:
skhwr mskhwr elk waythynwn bhwn npshyk dqtsth yth elk rkhymk yth bgly mythy ana ha alhym yy amr kdnn ahlybh bkn
“Therefore, Oholibah, the Lord Yahweh says: ‘Behold, I will raise up your lovers against you, from whom your soul is alienated, and I will bring them against you on every side:

בני בבל וכל כסדאי פקודאי ושועאי וקועאי כל בני אתור עמהון עולימי חמדתא שלטונין וטורנין כולהון גברין מזמנין רכבי סוסון כולהון:
kwlhwn swswn rkby mzmnyn gbryn kwlhwn wTwrnyn shlTwnyn khmdtha ewlymy emhwn athwr bny kl wqweay wshweay pqwday ksday wkl bbl bny
the Babylonians and all the Chaldeans, Pekod, Shoa, Koa, and all the Assyrians with them; all of them desirable young men, governors and rulers, princes and men of renown, all of them riding on horses.
24
וייתון עלך במאני זינא ברתיכין וגלגלין ומשרית עממין דמזינין בעגילין וקולסין ימנון עלך סחור סחור ואתן קדמיהון פורענות דינין ויתפרעון מניך בנימוסיהון:
bnymwsyhwn mnyk wythprewn dynyn pwrenwth qdmyhwn wathn skhwr skhwr elk ymnwn wqwlsyn begylyn dmzynyn emmyn wmshryth wglglyn brthykyn zyna bmany elk wyythwn
They will come against you with weapons, chariots, and wagons, and with a company of peoples. They will set themselves against you with buckler, shield, and helmet all around. I will commit the judgment to them, and they will judge you according to their judgments.
25
ואתן פורענותי ביך ויתפרעון מניך ברגז רברביך ויקיריך יגלון ועמיך בחרבא יתקטלון אינון בנך ובנתך ישבון ושפר ארעיך יתוקד בנורא:
bnwra ythwqd areyk wshpr yshbwn wbnthk bnk aynwn ythqTlwn bkhrba wemyk yglwn wyqyryk rbrbyk brgz mnyk wythprewn byk pwrenwthy wathn
I will set my jealousy against you, and they will deal with you in fury. They will take away your nose and your ears. Your remnant will fall by the sword. They will take your sons and your daughters; and the rest of you will be devoured by the fire.
26
וישלחוניך לבושי יקריך ויסבון מאני תושבחתיך:
thwshbkhthyk many wysbwn yqryk lbwshy wyshlkhwnyk
They will also strip you of your clothes and take away your beautiful jewels.
27
ואבטל חובי עצת חטאך מניך וית פולחן טעותיך דהות עמיך כד הוית בארעא דמצרים ולא תזקפין עינך להון וטעות מצראי לא תדכרין עוד:
ewd thdkryn la mtsray wTewth lhwn eynk thzqpyn wla dmtsrym barea hwyth kd emyk dhwth Tewthyk pwlkhn wyth mnyk khTak etsth khwby wabTl
Thus I will make your lewdness to cease from you, and remove your prostitution from the land of Egypt, so that you will not lift up your eyes to them, nor remember Egypt any more.’
28
ארי כדנן אמר יי אלהים הא אנא מסר ליך ביד דסנית ביד דקצת נפשיך בהון:
bhwn npshyk dqtsth byd dsnyth byd lyk msr ana ha alhym yy amr kdnn ary
“For the Lord Yahweh says: ‘Behold, I will deliver you into the hand of them whom you hate, into the hand of them from whom your soul is alienated.
29
ויתפרעון מניך כדבבו ויסבון ית כל ליאותיך וישבקוניך מטלטלא ושביקא ותתגלי בהתת טעותיך וחובי עיצת חטאך וזדוניך:
wzdwnyk khTak eytsth wkhwby Tewthyk bhthth wththgly wshbyqa mTlTla wyshbqwnyk lyawthyk kl yth wysbwn kdbbw mnyk wythprewn
They will deal with you in hatred, and will take away all your labor, and will leave you naked and bare. The nakedness of your prostitution will be uncovered, both your lewdness and your prostitution.
30
חוביך גרמו אלין ליך בדטעית בתר עממיא ואסתאבת בפולחן טעותהון:
Tewthhwn bpwlkhn wasthabth emmya bthr bdTeyth lyk alyn grmw khwbyk
These things will be done to you because you have played the prostitute after the nations, and because you are polluted with their idols.
31
באורח אחתיך הליכת ואתן כס פורענותה בידיך:
bydyk pwrenwthh ks wathn hlykth akhthyk bawrkh
You have walked in the way of your sister; therefore I will give her cup into your hand.’
32
כדנן אמר יי אלהים כס פורענות אחתיך תשתין תקיפא וחסינתא תהין לחוך וללעיב מסגי עקא דתיתי עלך:
elk dthythy eqa msgy wlleyb lkhwk thhyn wkhsyntha thqypa thshthyn akhthyk pwrenwth ks alhym yy amr kdnn
“The Lord Yahweh says: ‘You will drink of your sister’s cup, which is deep and large. You will be ridiculed and held in derision. It contains much.
33
הא כרויא ורון תתמלין כס צדו ואישתממו כס פורענות אחתיך שומרון:
shwmrwn akhthyk pwrenwth ks wayshthmmw tsdw ks ththmlyn wrwn krwya ha
You will be filled with drunkenness and sorrow, with the cup of astonishment and desolation, with the cup of your sister Samaria.

ותשתין יתה ותגמרין וית פורענותהא תקבלין ובסריך תתלשין ארי אנא גזרית במימרי אמר יי אלהים:
alhym yy amr bmymry gzryth ana ary ththlshyn wbsryk thqblyn pwrenwthha wyth wthgmryn ythh wthshthyn
You will even drink it and drain it out. You will gnaw the broken pieces of it, and will tear your breasts; for I have spoken it,’ says the Lord Yahweh.
35
בכן כדנן אמר יי אלהים חלף דשבקת פולחני וארחיקת דחלתי מקבל עינך ואף את קבילי חובי עיצת חטאיך וטעותיך:
wTewthyk khTayk eytsth khwby qbyly ath wap eynk mqbl dkhlthy warkhyqth pwlkhny dshbqth khlp alhym yy amr kdnn bkn
“Therefore the Lord Yahweh says: ‘Because you have forgotten me and cast me behind your back, therefore you also bear your lewdness and your prostitution.’”
36
ואמר יי לי בר אדם התוכח ית אהלה וית אהליבה וחוי להן ית תועבתהן:
thwebthhn yth lhn wkhwy ahlybh wyth ahlh yth hthwkkh adm br ly yy wamr
Yahweh said moreover to me: “Son of man, will you judge Oholah and Oholibah? Then declare to them their abominations.
37
ארי זנאין בהן ודם זכאי אשדו בידיהן ובתר פולחן טעותהן טעו ואף ית בניהן דעתידין למיפק מנהן תולדת קודשא קדמי אעבירו להן לפולחן:
lpwlkhn lhn aebyrw qdmy qwdsha thwldth mnhn lmypq dethydyn bnyhn yth wap Tew Tewthhn pwlkhn wbthr bydyhn ashdw zkay wdm bhn znayn ary
For they have committed adultery, and blood is in their hands. They have committed adultery with their idols. They have also caused their sons, whom they bore to me, to pass through the fire to them to be devoured.
38
עוד ארגיזו קדמי סאיבו ית בית מקדשי ביומא ההוא וית יומי שביא דילי אחילו:
akhylw dyly shbya ywmy wyth hhwa bywma mqdshy byth yth saybw qdmy argyzw ewd
Moreover this they have done to me: they have defiled my sanctuary in the same day, and have profaned my Sabbaths.
39
ובמכסותהן ית בניהון לפולחן טעותהון ועלו לבית מקדשי ביומא ההוא לאחלותיה והא כדין עבדו בגו בית מקדשי:
mqdshy byth bgw ebdw kdyn wha lakhlwthyh hhwa bywma mqdshy lbyth welw Tewthhwn lpwlkhn bnyhwn yth wbmkswthhn
For when they had slain their children to their idols, then they came the same day into my sanctuary to profane it; and behold, they have done this in the middle of my house.
40
ואף ארי שלחת לגבריא דאתן מרחיק דאזגד שליח לותהון והא אתו לאתר דזמינת אתקינת שוקין ומנית פלטורין:
plTwryn wmnyth shwqyn athqynth dzmynth lathr athw wha lwthhwn shlykh dazgd mrkhyq dathn lgbrya shlkhth ary wap
“Furthermore you sisters have sent for men who come from far away, to whom a messenger was sent, and behold, they came; for whom you washed yourself, painted your eyes, decorated yourself with ornaments,

ורמית דרגשין מכיכין דיקר ופתורין מלן כל טוב סדרת קדמיהון וקטורת בוסמי ומשחי שוית עליהון:
elyhwn shwyth wmshkhy bwsmy wqTwrth qdmyhwn sdrth Twb kl mln wpthwryn dyqr mkykyn drgshyn wrmyth
and sat on a stately bed, with a table prepared before it, whereupon you set my incense and my oil.
42
וקל אתרגושתהון די שלן שליוא בהון ולתקוף גברין מסגי אנשא אתן מסחור סחור ממדברא ויהבו שירין על ידיהון וכתר דתושבחתא על רישיהון:
ryshyhwn el dthwshbkhtha wkthr ydyhwn el shyryn wyhbw mmdbra skhwr mskhwr athn ansha msgy gbryn wlthqwp bhwn shlywa shln dy athrgwshthhwn wql
“The voice of a multitude being at ease was with her. With men of the common sort were brought drunkards from the wilderness; and they put bracelets on their hands, and beautiful crowns on their heads.
43
ואמרית לכנשתא דישראל דבליעת עמה בחובין כען תשבוק מטעותה ותתוב לפולחני ולא תבת:
thbth wla lpwlkhny wththwb mTewthh thshbwq ken bkhwbyn emh dblyeth dyshral lknshtha wamryth
Then I said of her who was old in adulteries, ‘Now they will play the prostitute with her, and she with them.’
44
ועלו לותה כמא דעלין לות איתתא פונדקיתא כן עלו לאהלה ולאהליבה מזינתא דעיצתהון חטאין:
khTayn deytsthhwn mzyntha wlahlybh lahlh elw kn pwndqytha ayththa lwth delyn kma lwthh welw
They went in to her, as they go in to a prostitute. So they went in to Oholah and to Oholibah, the lewd women.
45
וגברין זכאין בקבליהון יתפרעון מנהן פורענות ניפין ופורענות אשדת דם ארי זנאין בהן ודם זכאי אשדו בידיהון:
bydyhwn ashdw zkay wdm bhn znayn ary dm ashdth wpwrenwth nypyn pwrenwth mnhn ythprewn bqblyhwn zkayn wgbryn
Righteous men will judge them with the judgment of adulteresses and with the judgment of women who shed blood, because they are adulteresses, and blood is in their hands.
46
כדנן אמר יי אלהים איתנבי דיסקון עליהון משרין ואמסר יתהון לתביר ולבזא:
wlbza lthbyr ythhwn wamsr mshryn elyhwn dysqwn aythnby alhym yy amr kdnn
“For the Lord Yahweh says: ‘I will bring up a mob against them, and will give them to be tossed back and forth and robbed.

וירגמו יתהן באבני קלע משרין ויבזעון יתהן בסיפיהון בניהון ובנתהון יקטלון ובתיהון יוקדון בנורא:
bnwra ywqdwn wbthyhwn yqTlwn wbnthhwn bnyhwn bsypyhwn ythhn wybzewn mshryn qle babny ythhn wyrgmw
The company will stone them with stones and dispatch them with their swords. They will kill their sons and their daughters, and burn up their houses with fire.
48
ואבטיל חובי עיצת חטאין מן ארעא ויתרדין כל מדינתא ולא יעבדן כעיצת חטאיכון:
khTaykwn keytsth yebdn wla mdyntha kl wythrdyn area mn khTayn eytsth khwby wabTyl
“‘Thus I will cause lewdness to cease out of the land, that all women may be taught not to be lewd like you.

ויתיהבון חובי עיצת חטאיכון עליכון וחטאי פולחן טעותכון תקבלן ותידעון ארי אנא יי אלהים:
alhym yy ana ary wthydewn thqbln Tewthkwn pwlkhn wkhTay elykwn khTaykwn eytsth khwby wythyhbwn
They will recompense your lewdness on you, and you will bear the sins of your idols. Then you will know that I am the Lord Yahweh.’”
