והוה פתגם נבואה מן קדם יי עמי למימר:
lmymr emy yy qdm mn nbwah pthgm whwh
Yahweh’s word came to me again, saying,
2
מה לכון דאתון מתלין ית מתלא הדין על ארעא דישראל למימר אבהתא חטן ובניא לקן:
lqn wbnya khTn abhtha lmymr dyshral area el hdyn mthla yth mthlyn dathwn lkwn mh
“What do you mean, that you use this proverb concerning the land of Israel, saying, ‘The fathers have eaten sour grapes, and the children’s teeth are set on edge’?

קים אנא אמר יי אלהים אם יהי לכון עוד מתיל מתלא הדין בישראל:
byshral hdyn mthla mthyl ewd lkwn yhy am alhym yy amr ana qym
“As I live,” says the Lord Yahweh, “you shall not use this proverb any more in Israel.

הא כל נפשתא דילי אינון כנפש אבא וכנפש ברא קדמי אינון אנש דיחטי הוא ימות:
ymwth hwa dykhTy ansh aynwn qdmy bra wknpsh aba knpsh aynwn dyly npshtha kl ha
Behold, all souls are mine; as the soul of the father, so also the soul of the son is mine. The soul who sins, he shall die.

וגבר ארי יהי זכאי ויעביד דין דקשוט וזכו:
wzkw dqshwT dyn wyebyd zkay yhy ary wgbr
“But if a man is just, and does that which is lawful and right,

בטוריא לא פלח לטעותא ועינוהי לא זקף לפולחן טעות ביה ישראל וית אתת חבריה לא סאיב ולות אתא מסאבא לא על:
el la msaba atha wlwth sayb la khbryh athth wyth yshral byh Tewth lpwlkhn zqp la weynwhy lTewtha plkh la bTwrya
and has not eaten on the mountains, hasn’t lifted up his eyes to the idols of the house of Israel, hasn’t defiled his neighbor’s wife, hasn’t come near a woman in her impurity,

ואנש לא אוני משכון דחובתא אתיב גזילא לא גזל מלחממיה לכפנא יהב וערטילאה כסי מכסותיה:
mkswthyh ksy werTylah yhb lkpna mlkhmmyh gzl la gzyla athyb dkhwbtha mshkwn awny la wansh
and has not wronged any, but has restored to the debtor his pledge, has taken nothing by robbery, has given his bread to the hungry, and has covered the naked with a garment;

בחבוליא לא יהב ורביתא לא נסיב משקרא אתיב ידה דין דקשוט עביד בין גבר לגבר:
lgbr gbr byn ebyd dqshwT dyn ydh athyb mshqra nsyb la wrbytha yhb la bkhbwlya
he who hasn’t lent to them with interest, hasn’t taken any increase from them, who has withdrawn his hand from iniquity, has executed true justice between man and man,

בקימי הליך ודיני נטר למעבד קשוט צדיקא הוא מיחא יחי אמר יי אלהים:
alhym yy amr ykhy mykha hwa tsdyqa qshwT lmebd nTr wdyny hlyk bqymy
has walked in my statutes, and has kept my ordinances, to deal truly; he is just, he shall surely live,” says the Lord Yahweh.

ואוליד בר רשיעא אשיד דם ויעביד לאחוהי מחדא מאלין:
malyn mkhda lakhwhy wyebyd dm ashyd rshyea br wawlyd
“If he fathers a son who is a robber who sheds blood, and who does any one of these things,

והוא ית כל אלין לא עבד אלהין בטוריא פלח לטעותא וית אתת חבריה סאיב:
sayb khbryh athth wyth lTewtha plkh bTwrya alhyn ebd la alyn kl yth whwa
or who does not do any of those things but has eaten at the mountain shrines and defiled his neighbor’s wife,

מסכן וחשיך אוני גזילא גזל משכונא לא אתיב ולפולחן טעותא זקף עינוהי תועיבא עבד:
ebd thweyba eynwhy zqp Tewtha wlpwlkhn athyb la mshkwna gzl gzyla awny wkhshyk mskn
has wronged the poor and needy, has taken by robbery, has not restored the pledge, and has lifted up his eyes to the idols, has committed abomination,

בחבוליא יהב ורביתא נסיב האתקים לא יתקים ית כל תועבתא האלין עבד מימת ימות חובת קטולה ביה תהי:
thhy byh qTwlh khwbth ymwth mymth ebd halyn thwebtha kl yth ythqym la hathqym nsyb wrbytha yhb bkhbwlya
has lent with interest, and has taken increase from the poor, shall he then live? He shall not live. He has done all these abominations. He shall surely die. His blood will be on him.

והא אוליד בר וחזא ית כל חובי אבוהי דעבד וחזא ולא עבד כותהון:
kwthhwn ebd wla wkhza debd abwhy khwby kl yth wkhza br awlyd wha
“Now, behold, if he fathers a son who sees all his father’s sins which he has done, and fears, and doesn’t do likewise,

על טוריא לא פלח לטעותא ועינוהי לא זקף לפולחן טעות בית ישראל וית אתת חבריה לא סאיב:
sayb la khbryh athth wyth yshral byth Tewth lpwlkhn zqp la weynwhy lTewtha plkh la Twrya el
who hasn’t eaten on the mountains, hasn’t lifted up his eyes to the idols of the house of Israel, hasn’t defiled his neighbor’s wife,

ואנש לא אוני משכונא לא נסיב וגזלה לא גזל מלחמיה לכפנא יהב וערטילאה כסי מכסותה:
mkswthh ksy werTylah yhb lkpna mlkhmyh gzl la wgzlh nsyb la mshkwna awny la wansh
hasn’t wronged any, hasn’t taken anything to pledge, hasn’t taken by robbery, but has given his bread to the hungry, and has covered the naked with a garment;

ממסכנא לא אתיב ידה חבוליא ורביתא לא נסיב דיני עביד בקימי הליך הוא לא ימות בחובי אבוהי מיחא יחי:
ykhy mykha abwhy bkhwby ymwth la hwa hlyk bqymy ebyd dyny nsyb la wrbytha khbwlya ydh athyb la mmskna
who has withdrawn his hand from the poor, who hasn’t received interest or increase, has executed my ordinances, has walked in my statutes; he shall not die for the iniquity of his father. He shall surely live.

אבוהי ארי עשק עשקא גזל גזלא לחד מאחוהי ודלא תקין עבד בגו עמיה והא מית בחוביה:
bkhwbyh myth wha emyh bgw ebd thqyn wdla makhwhy lkhd gzla gzl eshqa eshq ary abwhy
As for his father, because he cruelly oppressed, robbed his brother, and did that which is not good among his people, behold, he will die in his iniquity.

ותימרון מא דין לא לקי ברא בחובי אבא וברא דין וקשוט וזכו עבד ית כל קימי נטר ועבד יתהון מיחא יחי:
ykhy mykha ythhwn webd nTr qymy kl yth ebd wzkw wqshwT dyn wbra aba bkhwby bra lqy la dyn ma wthymrwn
“Yet you say, ‘Why doesn’t the son bear the iniquity of the father?’ When the son has done that which is lawful and right, and has kept all my statutes, and has done them, he will surely live.

אנש דיחוב הוא ימות ברא לא לקי בחובי אבא ואבא לא לקי בחובי ברא זכות זכאה ביה יתקים וחובת חיבא עלוהי תהא:
thha elwhy khyba wkhwbth ythqym byh zkah zkwth bra bkhwby lqy la waba aba bkhwby lqy la bra ymwth hwa dykhwb ansh
The soul who sins, he shall die. The son shall not bear the iniquity of the father, neither shall the father bear the iniquity of the son. The righteousness of the righteous shall be on him, and the wickedness of the wicked shall be on him.

ורשיעה ארי יתוב מכל חובוהי דעבד ויטר ית כל קימי ויעביד דין דקשוט וזכו מיחא יחי לא ימות:
ymwth la ykhy mykha wzkw dqshwT dyn wyebyd qymy kl yth wyTr debd khwbwhy mkl ythwb ary wrshyeh
“But if the wicked turns from all his sins that he has committed, and keeps all my statutes, and does that which is lawful and right, he shall surely live. He shall not die.

כל חובוהי דעבד לא ידכרון ליה בזכותה דעבד יתקים:
ythqym debd bzkwthh lyh ydkrwn la debd khwbwhy kl
None of his transgressions that he has committed will be remembered against him. In his righteousness that he has done, he shall live.
23
המרעא רעינא במותיה דרשיעא אמר יי אלהים הלא כד יתוב מאורחיה ויתקים:
wythqym mawrkhyh ythwb kd hla alhym yy amr drshyea bmwthyh reyna hmrea
Have I any pleasure in the death of the wicked?” says the Lord Yahweh, “and not rather that he should return from his way, and live?

וכד יתוב זכאה מזכותה ויעביד שקר ככל תועבתא די עבד רשיעא יעביד דאתקים כל זכותיה דעבד לא ידכרון בשקריה דשקר ובחובוהי די חב בהון ימות:
ymwth bhwn khb dy wbkhwbwhy dshqr bshqryh ydkrwn la debd zkwthyh kl dathqym yebyd rshyea ebd dy thwebtha kkl shqr wyebyd mzkwthh zkah ythwb wkd
“But when the righteous turns away from his righteousness, and commits iniquity, and does according to all the abominations that the wicked man does, should he live? None of his righteous deeds that he has done will be remembered. In his trespass that he has trespassed, and in his sin that he has sinned, in them he shall die.

ואמרתון לא מפרשן לנא אורחת טובא דיי שמעו כען בית ישראל האורחת טובי לא מפרשן לכון הלא אורחתכון דילכון לא תקנן:
thqnn la dylkwn awrkhthkwn hla lkwn mprshn la Twby hawrkhth yshral byth ken shmew dyy Twba awrkhth lna mprshn la wamrthwn
“Yet you say, ‘The way of the Lord is not equal.’ Hear now, house of Israel: Is my way not equal? Aren’t your ways unequal?

וכד יתוב זכאה מזכותה ויעביד שקר וימות עליהון בשקריה די עבד ימות:
ymwth ebd dy bshqryh elyhwn wymwth shqr wyebyd mzkwthh zkah ythwb wkd
When the righteous man turns away from his righteousness, and commits iniquity, and dies in it, then he dies in his iniquity that he has done.
27
וכד יתוב רשיעא מחובוהי די עבד ויעביד דין דקשוט וזכו היא ית נפשה יקים:
yqym npshh yth hya wzkw dqshwT dyn wyebyd ebd dy mkhwbwhy rshyea ythwb wkd
Again, when the wicked man turns away from his wickedness that he has committed, and does that which is lawful and right, he will save his soul alive.

וחזא ותב מכל חובוהי די עבד מיחא יחי לא ימות:
ymwth la ykhy mykha ebd dy khwbwhy mkl wthb wkhza
Because he considers, and turns away from all his transgressions that he has committed, he shall surely live. He shall not die.

ואמרו בית ישראל לא מפרשן לנא אורחת טובא דיי האורחת טובי לא מפרשן לכון בית ישראל הלא אורחתכון דילכון לא תקנן:
thqnn la dylkwn awrkhthkwn hla yshral byth lkwn mprshn la Twby hawrkhth dyy Twba awrkhth lna mprshn la yshral byth wamrw
Yet the house of Israel says, ‘The way of the Lord is not fair.’ House of Israel, aren’t my ways fair? Aren’t your ways unfair?

בכן אנש כאורחתיה אתפרע מנכון בית ישראל אמר יי אלהים תובו לפולחני ואעדו מנכון פולחן טעותא ולא יהי לכון לתקלת חובין:
khwbyn lthqlth lkwn yhy wla Tewtha pwlkhn mnkwn waedw lpwlkhny thwbw alhym yy amr yshral byth mnkwn athpre kawrkhthyh ansh bkn
“Therefore I will judge you, house of Israel, everyone according to his ways,” says the Lord Yahweh. “Return, and turn yourselves from all your transgressions, so iniquity will not be your ruin.

ארחיקו מנכון ית כל חוביכון דחבתון בהון ועבידו לכון לב דחיל ורוח דחלא ולמה תמותון בית ישראל:
yshral byth thmwthwn wlmh dkhla wrwkh dkhyl lb lkwn webydw bhwn dkhbthwn khwbykwn kl yth mnkwn arkhyqw
Cast away from you all your transgressions in which you have transgressed; and make yourself a new heart and a new spirit. For why will you die, house of Israel?
