וחזא עמא ארי אוחר משה למחת מן טורא ואתכנש עמא על אהרן ואמרו ליה קום עבד לנא דחלן דיהכון קדמנא ארי דין משה גברא די אסקנא מארעא דמצרים לא ידענא מה הוה ליה:
wkhza ema ary awkhr mshh lmkhth mn Twra wathknsh ema el ahrn wamrw lyh qwm ebd lna dkhln dyhkwn qdmna ary dyn mshh gbra dy asqna marea dmtsrym la ydena mh hwh lyh
When the people saw that Moses delayed coming down from the mountain, the people gathered themselves together to Aaron, and said to him, “Come, make us gods, which shall go before us; for as for this Moses, the man who brought us up out of the land of Egypt, we don’t know what has become of him.”

ואמר להון אהרן פריקו קדשי דדהבא די באודני נשיכון בניכון ובנתיכון ואיתיו לותי:
wamr lhwn ahrn pryqw qdshy ddhba dy bawdny nshykwn bnykwn wbnthykwn waythyw lwthy
Aaron said to them, “Take off the golden rings, which are in the ears of your wives, of your sons, and of your daughters, and bring them to me.”

ואתפריקו כל עמא ית קדשי דדהבא די באודניהון ואיתיו לאהרן:
wathpryqw kl ema yth qdshy ddhba dy bawdnyhwn waythyw lahrn
All the people took off the golden rings which were in their ears, and brought them to Aaron.
4
ונסיב מידיהון וצר יתיה בזיפא ועבדיה עגל מתכא ואמרו אלין דחלתך ישראל די אסקוך מארעא דמצרים:
wnsyb mydyhwn wtsr ythyh bzypa webdyh egl mthka wamrw alyn dkhlthk yshral dy asqwk marea dmtsrym
He received what they handed him, fashioned it with an engraving tool, and made it a molded calf. Then they said, “These are your gods, Israel, which brought you up out of the land of Egypt.”

וחזא אהרן ובנא מדבחא קדמוהי וקרא אהרן ואמר חגא קדם יי מחר:
wkhza ahrn wbna mdbkha qdmwhy wqra ahrn wamr khga qdm yy mkhr
When Aaron saw this, he built an altar before it; and Aaron made a proclamation, and said, “Tomorrow shall be a feast to Yahweh.”

ואקדימו ביומא דבתרוהי ואסיקו עלון וקריבו נכסין ואסחר עמא למיכל ולמשתי וקמו לחיכא:
waqdymw bywma dbthrwhy wasyqw elwn wqrybw nksyn waskhr ema lmykl wlmshthy wqmw lkhyka
They rose up early on the next day, and offered burnt offerings, and brought peace offerings; and the people sat down to eat and to drink, and rose up to play.

ומליל יי עם משה אזל חות ארי חביל עמך די אסקתא מארעא דמצרים:
wmlyl yy em mshh azl khwth ary khbyl emk dy asqtha marea dmtsrym
Yahweh spoke to Moses, “Go, get down; for your people, whom you brought up out of the land of Egypt, have corrupted themselves!

סטו בפריע מן אורחא די פקדתנון עבדו להון עגל מתכא וסגידו ליה ודבחו ליה ואמרו אלין דחלתך ישראל די אסקוך מארעא דמצרים:
sTw bprye mn awrkha dy pqdthnwn ebdw lhwn egl mthka wsgydw lyh wdbkhw lyh wamrw alyn dkhlthk yshral dy asqwk marea dmtsrym
They have turned away quickly out of the way which I commanded them. They have made themselves a molded calf, and have worshiped it, and have sacrificed to it, and said, ‘These are your gods, Israel, which brought you up out of the land of Egypt.’”

ואמר יי למשה גלי קדמי עמא הדין והא עמא קשי קדל הוא:
wamr yy lmshh gly qdmy ema hdyn wha ema qshy qdl hwa
Yahweh said to Moses, “I have seen these people, and behold, they are a stiff-necked people.
10
וכען הנח בעותך מן קדמי ויתקף רוגזי בהון ואישיצנון ואעבד יתך לעם סגי:
wken hnkh bewthk mn qdmy wythqp rwgzy bhwn wayshytsnwn waebd ythk lem sgy
Now therefore leave me alone, that my wrath may burn hot against them, and that I may consume them; and I will make of you a great nation.”

וצלי משה קדם יי אלהיה ואמר למא יי יתקף רוגזך בעמך די אפקתא מארעא דמצרים בחיל רב ובידא תקיפא:
wtsly mshh qdm yy alhyh wamr lma yy ythqp rwgzk bemk dy apqtha marea dmtsrym bkhyl rb wbyda thqypa
Moses begged Yahweh his God, and said, “Yahweh, why does your wrath burn hot against your people, that you have brought out of the land of Egypt with great power and with a mighty hand?

למא יימרון מצראי למימר בבישתא אפקתנון לקטלא יתהון ביני טוריא ולשיציותהון מעל אפי ארעא תוב מתקוף רוגזך ואתיב מן בישתא דמללתא למעבד לעמך:
lma yymrwn mtsray lmymr bbyshtha apqthnwn lqTla ythhwn byny Twrya wlshytsywthhwn mel apy area thwb mthqwp rwgzk wathyb mn byshtha dmlltha lmebd lemk
Why should the Egyptians talk, saying, ‘He brought them out for evil, to kill them in the mountains, and to consume them from the surface of the earth’? Turn from your fierce wrath, and turn away from this evil against your people.

אדכר לאברהם ליצחק ולישראל עבדיך די קימתא להון במימרך ומללתא עמהון אסגי ית בניכון ככוכבי שמיא וכל ארעא הדא די אמרית אתן לבניכון ויחסנון לעלם:
adkr labrhm lytskhq wlyshral ebdyk dy qymtha lhwn bmymrk wmlltha emhwn asgy yth bnykwn kkwkby shmya wkl area hda dy amryth athn lbnykwn wykhsnwn lelm
Remember Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, your servants, to whom you swore by your own self, and said to them, ‘I will multiply your offspring as the stars of the sky, and all this land that I have spoken of I will give to your offspring, and they shall inherit it forever.’”

ותב יי מן בישתא די מליל למעבד לעמיה:
wthb yy mn byshtha dy mlyl lmebd lemyh
So Yahweh turned away from the evil which he said he would do to his people.
15
ואתפני ונחת משה מן טורא ותרין לוחי סהדותא בידיה לוחי כתיבין מתרין עבריהון מכא ומכא אנון כתיבין:
wathpny wnkhth mshh mn Twra wthryn lwkhy shdwtha bydyh lwkhy kthybyn mthryn ebryhwn mka wmka anwn kthybyn
Moses turned, and went down from the mountain, with the two tablets of the covenant in his hand; tablets that were written on both their sides. They were written on one side and on the other.

ולוחיא עובדא דיי אנון וכתבא כתבא דיי הוא מפרש על לוחיא:
wlwkhya ewbda dyy anwn wkthba kthba dyy hwa mprsh el lwkhya
The tablets were the work of God, and the writing was the writing of God, engraved on the tablets.
17
ושמע יהושע ית קל עמא כד מיבבין ואמר למשה קל קרבא במשריתא:
wshme yhwshe yth ql ema kd mybbyn wamr lmshh ql qrba bmshrytha
When Joshua heard the noise of the people as they shouted, he said to Moses, “There is the noise of war in the camp.”

ואמר לא קל גברין דנצחין בקרבא ואף לא קל חלשין דמתברין קל דמחיכין אנא שמע:
wamr la ql gbryn dntskhyn bqrba wap la ql khlshyn dmthbryn ql dmkhykyn ana shme
He said, “It isn’t the voice of those who shout for victory. It is not the voice of those who cry for being overcome; but the noise of those who sing that I hear.”

והוה כד קריב למשריתא וחזא ית עגלא וחנגין ותקיף רוגזא דמשה ורמא מידוהי ית לוחיא ותבר יתהון בשפולי טורא:
whwh kd qryb lmshrytha wkhza yth egla wkhngyn wthqyp rwgza dmshh wrma mydwhy yth lwkhya wthbr ythhwn bshpwly Twra
As soon as he came near to the camp, he saw the calf and the dancing. Then Moses’ anger grew hot, and he threw the tablets out of his hands, and broke them beneath the mountain.

ונסיב ית עגלא די עבדו ואוקד בנורא ושף עד דהוה דקיק וזרא על אפי מיא ואשקי ית בני ישראל:
wnsyb yth egla dy ebdw wawqd bnwra wshp ed dhwh dqyq wzra el apy mya washqy yth bny yshral
He took the calf which they had made, and burned it with fire, ground it to powder, and scattered it on the water, and made the children of Israel drink it.

ואמר משה לאהרן מה עבד לך עמא הדין ארי איתיתא עלוהי חובא רבא:
wamr mshh lahrn mh ebd lk ema hdyn ary aythytha elwhy khwba rba
Moses said to Aaron, “What did these people do to you, that you have brought a great sin on them?”
22
ואמר אהרן לא יתקף רוגזא דרבוני את ידעת ית עמא ארי בביש הוא:
wamr ahrn la ythqp rwgza drbwny ath ydeth yth ema ary bbysh hwa
Aaron said, “Don’t let the anger of my lord grow hot. You know the people, that they are set on evil.

ואמרו לי עביד לנא דחלן די יהכן קדמנא ארי דין משה גברא די אסקנא מארעא דמצרים לא ידענא מה הוה ליה:
wamrw ly ebyd lna dkhln dy yhkn qdmna ary dyn mshh gbra dy asqna marea dmtsrym la ydena mh hwh lyh
For they said to me, ‘Make us gods, which shall go before us. As for this Moses, the man who brought us up out of the land of Egypt, we don’t know what has become of him.’

ואמרית להון למן דהבא פריקו ויהבו לי ורמיתיה בנורא ונפק עגלא הדין:
wamryth lhwn lmn dhba pryqw wyhbw ly wrmythyh bnwra wnpq egla hdyn
I said to them, ‘Whoever has any gold, let them take it off.’ So they gave it to me; and I threw it into the fire, and out came this calf.”

וחזא משה ית עמא ארי בטיל הוא ארי בטילנון אהרן לאסבותהון שום ביש לדריהון:
wkhza mshh yth ema ary bTyl hwa ary bTylnwn ahrn lasbwthhwn shwm bysh ldryhwn
When Moses saw that the people were out of control, (for Aaron had let them lose control, causing derision among their enemies),
26
וקם משה בתרע משריתא ואמר מן דחליא דיי ייתון לותי ואתכנשו לותיה כל בני לוי:
wqm mshh bthre mshrytha wamr mn dkhlya dyy yythwn lwthy wathknshw lwthyh kl bny lwy
then Moses stood in the gate of the camp, and said, “Whoever is on Yahweh’s side, come to me!” All the sons of Levi gathered themselves together to him.
27
ואמר להון כדנן אמר יי אלהא דישראל שוו גבר חרביה על ירכיה עברו ותובו מתרע לתרע במשריתא וקטולו גבר ית אחוהי וגבר ית חבריה ואנש ית קריביה:
wamr lhwn kdnn amr yy alha dyshral shww gbr khrbyh el yrkyh ebrw wthwbw mthre lthre bmshrytha wqTwlw gbr yth akhwhy wgbr yth khbryh wansh yth qrybyh
He said to them, “Yahweh, the God of Israel, says, ‘Every man put his sword on his thigh, and go back and forth from gate to gate throughout the camp, and every man kill his brother, and every man his companion, and every man his neighbor.’”
28
ועבדו בני לוי כפתגמא דמשה ונפל מן עמא ביומא ההוא כתלתא אלפין גברא:
webdw bny lwy kpthgma dmshh wnpl mn ema bywma hhwa kthltha alpyn gbra
The sons of Levi did according to the word of Moses. About three thousand men fell of the people that day.
29
ואמר משה קריבו ידכון קרבנא יומא דין קדם יי ארי גבר בבריה ובאחוהי ולאיתאה עליכון יומא דין ברכן:
wamr mshh qrybw ydkwn qrbna ywma dyn qdm yy ary gbr bbryh wbakhwhy wlaythah elykwn ywma dyn brkn
Moses said, “Consecrate yourselves today to Yahweh, for every man was against his son and against his brother, that he may give you a blessing today.”
30
והוה ביומא דבתרוהי ואמר משה לעמא אתון חבתון חובא רבא וכען אסק קדם יי מאים אכפר על חוביכון:
whwh bywma dbthrwhy wamr mshh lema athwn khbthwn khwba rba wken asq qdm yy maym akpr el khwbykwn
On the next day, Moses said to the people, “You have sinned a great sin. Now I will go up to Yahweh. Perhaps I shall make atonement for your sin.”
31
ותב משה לקדם יי ואמר בבעו חב עמא הדין חובא רבא ועבדו להון דחלן דדהב:
wthb mshh lqdm yy wamr bbew khb ema hdyn khwba rba webdw lhwn dkhln ddhb
Moses returned to Yahweh, and said, “Oh, this people have sinned a great sin, and have made themselves gods of gold.
32
וכען אם שבקת לחוביהון ואם לא מחני כען מספרך די כתבתא:
wken am shbqth lkhwbyhwn wam la mkhny ken msprk dy kthbtha
Yet now, if you will, forgive their sin—and if not, please blot me out of your book which you have written.”
33
ואמר יי למשה מן די חב קדמי אמחניה מספרי:
wamr yy lmshh mn dy khb qdmy amkhnyh mspry
Yahweh said to Moses, “Whoever has sinned against me, I will blot him out of my book.

וכען אזיל דבר ית עמא לאתר די מללית לך הא מלאכי יהך קדמך וביום אסערותי ואסער עליהון חוביהון:
wken azyl dbr yth ema lathr dy mllyth lk ha mlaky yhk qdmk wbywm aserwthy waser elyhwn khwbyhwn
Now go, lead the people to the place of which I have spoken to you. Behold, my angel shall go before you. Nevertheless, in the day when I punish, I will punish them for their sin.”
35
ומחא יי ית עמא על די אשתעבדו לעגלא די עבד אהרן:
wmkha yy yth ema el dy ashthebdw legla dy ebd ahrn
Yahweh struck the people, because of what they did with the calf, which Aaron made.
