וחזא עמא ארי אוחר משה למחת מן טורא ואתכנש עמא על אהרן ואמרו ליה קום עבד לנא דחלן דיהכון קדמנא ארי דין משה גברא די אסקנא מארעא דמצרים לא ידענא מה הוה ליה:
lyh hwh mh ydena la dmtsrym marea asqna dy gbra mshh dyn ary qdmna dyhkwn dkhln lna ebd qwm lyh wamrw ahrn el ema wathknsh Twra mn lmkhth mshh awkhr ary ema wkhza
When the people saw that Moses delayed coming down from the mountain, the people gathered themselves together to Aaron, and said to him, “Come, make us gods, which shall go before us; for as for this Moses, the man who brought us up out of the land of Egypt, we don’t know what has become of him.”

ואמר להון אהרן פריקו קדשי דדהבא די באודני נשיכון בניכון ובנתיכון ואיתיו לותי:
lwthy waythyw wbnthykwn bnykwn nshykwn bawdny dy ddhba qdshy pryqw ahrn lhwn wamr
Aaron said to them, “Take off the golden rings, which are in the ears of your wives, of your sons, and of your daughters, and bring them to me.”

ואתפריקו כל עמא ית קדשי דדהבא די באודניהון ואיתיו לאהרן:
lahrn waythyw bawdnyhwn dy ddhba qdshy yth ema kl wathpryqw
All the people took off the golden rings which were in their ears, and brought them to Aaron.
4
ונסיב מידיהון וצר יתיה בזיפא ועבדיה עגל מתכא ואמרו אלין דחלתך ישראל די אסקוך מארעא דמצרים:
dmtsrym marea asqwk dy yshral dkhlthk alyn wamrw mthka egl webdyh bzypa ythyh wtsr mydyhwn wnsyb
He received what they handed him, fashioned it with an engraving tool, and made it a molded calf. Then they said, “These are your gods, Israel, which brought you up out of the land of Egypt.”

וחזא אהרן ובנא מדבחא קדמוהי וקרא אהרן ואמר חגא קדם יי מחר:
mkhr yy qdm khga wamr ahrn wqra qdmwhy mdbkha wbna ahrn wkhza
When Aaron saw this, he built an altar before it; and Aaron made a proclamation, and said, “Tomorrow shall be a feast to Yahweh.”

ואקדימו ביומא דבתרוהי ואסיקו עלון וקריבו נכסין ואסחר עמא למיכל ולמשתי וקמו לחיכא:
lkhyka wqmw wlmshthy lmykl ema waskhr nksyn wqrybw elwn wasyqw dbthrwhy bywma waqdymw
They rose up early on the next day, and offered burnt offerings, and brought peace offerings; and the people sat down to eat and to drink, and rose up to play.

ומליל יי עם משה אזל חות ארי חביל עמך די אסקתא מארעא דמצרים:
dmtsrym marea asqtha dy emk khbyl ary khwth azl mshh em yy wmlyl
Yahweh spoke to Moses, “Go, get down; for your people, whom you brought up out of the land of Egypt, have corrupted themselves!

סטו בפריע מן אורחא די פקדתנון עבדו להון עגל מתכא וסגידו ליה ודבחו ליה ואמרו אלין דחלתך ישראל די אסקוך מארעא דמצרים:
dmtsrym marea asqwk dy yshral dkhlthk alyn wamrw lyh wdbkhw lyh wsgydw mthka egl lhwn ebdw pqdthnwn dy awrkha mn bprye sTw
They have turned away quickly out of the way which I commanded them. They have made themselves a molded calf, and have worshiped it, and have sacrificed to it, and said, ‘These are your gods, Israel, which brought you up out of the land of Egypt.’”

ואמר יי למשה גלי קדמי עמא הדין והא עמא קשי קדל הוא:
hwa qdl qshy ema wha hdyn ema qdmy gly lmshh yy wamr
Yahweh said to Moses, “I have seen these people, and behold, they are a stiff-necked people.
10
וכען הנח בעותך מן קדמי ויתקף רוגזי בהון ואישיצנון ואעבד יתך לעם סגי:
sgy lem ythk waebd wayshytsnwn bhwn rwgzy wythqp qdmy mn bewthk hnkh wken
Now therefore leave me alone, that my wrath may burn hot against them, and that I may consume them; and I will make of you a great nation.”

וצלי משה קדם יי אלהיה ואמר למא יי יתקף רוגזך בעמך די אפקתא מארעא דמצרים בחיל רב ובידא תקיפא:
thqypa wbyda rb bkhyl dmtsrym marea apqtha dy bemk rwgzk ythqp yy lma wamr alhyh yy qdm mshh wtsly
Moses begged Yahweh his God, and said, “Yahweh, why does your wrath burn hot against your people, that you have brought out of the land of Egypt with great power and with a mighty hand?

למא יימרון מצראי למימר בבישתא אפקתנון לקטלא יתהון ביני טוריא ולשיציותהון מעל אפי ארעא תוב מתקוף רוגזך ואתיב מן בישתא דמללתא למעבד לעמך:
lemk lmebd dmlltha byshtha mn wathyb rwgzk mthqwp thwb area apy mel wlshytsywthhwn Twrya byny ythhwn lqTla apqthnwn bbyshtha lmymr mtsray yymrwn lma
Why should the Egyptians talk, saying, ‘He brought them out for evil, to kill them in the mountains, and to consume them from the surface of the earth’? Turn from your fierce wrath, and turn away from this evil against your people.

אדכר לאברהם ליצחק ולישראל עבדיך די קימתא להון במימרך ומללתא עמהון אסגי ית בניכון ככוכבי שמיא וכל ארעא הדא די אמרית אתן לבניכון ויחסנון לעלם:
lelm wykhsnwn lbnykwn athn amryth dy hda area wkl shmya kkwkby bnykwn yth asgy emhwn wmlltha bmymrk lhwn qymtha dy ebdyk wlyshral lytskhq labrhm adkr
Remember Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, your servants, to whom you swore by your own self, and said to them, ‘I will multiply your offspring as the stars of the sky, and all this land that I have spoken of I will give to your offspring, and they shall inherit it forever.’”

ותב יי מן בישתא די מליל למעבד לעמיה:
lemyh lmebd mlyl dy byshtha mn yy wthb
So Yahweh turned away from the evil which he said he would do to his people.
15
ואתפני ונחת משה מן טורא ותרין לוחי סהדותא בידיה לוחי כתיבין מתרין עבריהון מכא ומכא אנון כתיבין:
kthybyn anwn wmka mka ebryhwn mthryn kthybyn lwkhy bydyh shdwtha lwkhy wthryn Twra mn mshh wnkhth wathpny
Moses turned, and went down from the mountain, with the two tablets of the covenant in his hand; tablets that were written on both their sides. They were written on one side and on the other.

ולוחיא עובדא דיי אנון וכתבא כתבא דיי הוא מפרש על לוחיא:
lwkhya el mprsh hwa dyy kthba wkthba anwn dyy ewbda wlwkhya
The tablets were the work of God, and the writing was the writing of God, engraved on the tablets.
17
ושמע יהושע ית קל עמא כד מיבבין ואמר למשה קל קרבא במשריתא:
bmshrytha qrba ql lmshh wamr mybbyn kd ema ql yth yhwshe wshme
When Joshua heard the noise of the people as they shouted, he said to Moses, “There is the noise of war in the camp.”

ואמר לא קל גברין דנצחין בקרבא ואף לא קל חלשין דמתברין קל דמחיכין אנא שמע:
shme ana dmkhykyn ql dmthbryn khlshyn ql la wap bqrba dntskhyn gbryn ql la wamr
He said, “It isn’t the voice of those who shout for victory. It is not the voice of those who cry for being overcome; but the noise of those who sing that I hear.”

והוה כד קריב למשריתא וחזא ית עגלא וחנגין ותקיף רוגזא דמשה ורמא מידוהי ית לוחיא ותבר יתהון בשפולי טורא:
Twra bshpwly ythhwn wthbr lwkhya yth mydwhy wrma dmshh rwgza wthqyp wkhngyn egla yth wkhza lmshrytha qryb kd whwh
As soon as he came near to the camp, he saw the calf and the dancing. Then Moses’ anger grew hot, and he threw the tablets out of his hands, and broke them beneath the mountain.

ונסיב ית עגלא די עבדו ואוקד בנורא ושף עד דהוה דקיק וזרא על אפי מיא ואשקי ית בני ישראל:
yshral bny yth washqy mya apy el wzra dqyq dhwh ed wshp bnwra wawqd ebdw dy egla yth wnsyb
He took the calf which they had made, and burned it with fire, ground it to powder, and scattered it on the water, and made the children of Israel drink it.

ואמר משה לאהרן מה עבד לך עמא הדין ארי איתיתא עלוהי חובא רבא:
rba khwba elwhy aythytha ary hdyn ema lk ebd mh lahrn mshh wamr
Moses said to Aaron, “What did these people do to you, that you have brought a great sin on them?”
22
ואמר אהרן לא יתקף רוגזא דרבוני את ידעת ית עמא ארי בביש הוא:
hwa bbysh ary ema yth ydeth ath drbwny rwgza ythqp la ahrn wamr
Aaron said, “Don’t let the anger of my lord grow hot. You know the people, that they are set on evil.

ואמרו לי עביד לנא דחלן די יהכן קדמנא ארי דין משה גברא די אסקנא מארעא דמצרים לא ידענא מה הוה ליה:
lyh hwh mh ydena la dmtsrym marea asqna dy gbra mshh dyn ary qdmna yhkn dy dkhln lna ebyd ly wamrw
For they said to me, ‘Make us gods, which shall go before us. As for this Moses, the man who brought us up out of the land of Egypt, we don’t know what has become of him.’

ואמרית להון למן דהבא פריקו ויהבו לי ורמיתיה בנורא ונפק עגלא הדין:
hdyn egla wnpq bnwra wrmythyh ly wyhbw pryqw dhba lmn lhwn wamryth
I said to them, ‘Whoever has any gold, let them take it off.’ So they gave it to me; and I threw it into the fire, and out came this calf.”

וחזא משה ית עמא ארי בטיל הוא ארי בטילנון אהרן לאסבותהון שום ביש לדריהון:
ldryhwn bysh shwm lasbwthhwn ahrn bTylnwn ary hwa bTyl ary ema yth mshh wkhza
When Moses saw that the people were out of control, (for Aaron had let them lose control, causing derision among their enemies),

וקם משה בתרע משריתא ואמר מן דחליא דיי ייתון לותי ואתכנשו לותיה כל בני לוי:
lwy bny kl lwthyh wathknshw lwthy yythwn dyy dkhlya mn wamr mshrytha bthre mshh wqm
then Moses stood in the gate of the camp, and said, “Whoever is on Yahweh’s side, come to me!” All the sons of Levi gathered themselves together to him.
27
ואמר להון כדנן אמר יי אלהא דישראל שוו גבר חרביה על ירכיה עברו ותובו מתרע לתרע במשריתא וקטולו גבר ית אחוהי וגבר ית חבריה ואנש ית קריביה:
qrybyh yth wansh khbryh yth wgbr akhwhy yth gbr wqTwlw bmshrytha lthre mthre wthwbw ebrw yrkyh el khrbyh gbr shww dyshral alha yy amr kdnn lhwn wamr
He said to them, “Yahweh, the God of Israel, says, ‘Every man put his sword on his thigh, and go back and forth from gate to gate throughout the camp, and every man kill his brother, and every man his companion, and every man his neighbor.’”
28
ועבדו בני לוי כפתגמא דמשה ונפל מן עמא ביומא ההוא כתלתא אלפין גברא:
gbra alpyn kthltha hhwa bywma ema mn wnpl dmshh kpthgma lwy bny webdw
The sons of Levi did according to the word of Moses. About three thousand men fell of the people that day.

ואמר משה קריבו ידכון קרבנא יומא דין קדם יי ארי גבר בבריה ובאחוהי ולאיתאה עליכון יומא דין ברכן:
brkn dyn ywma elykwn wlaythah wbakhwhy bbryh gbr ary yy qdm dyn ywma qrbna ydkwn qrybw mshh wamr
Moses said, “Consecrate yourselves today to Yahweh, for every man was against his son and against his brother, that he may give you a blessing today.”

והוה ביומא דבתרוהי ואמר משה לעמא אתון חבתון חובא רבא וכען אסק קדם יי מאים אכפר על חוביכון:
khwbykwn el akpr maym yy qdm asq wken rba khwba khbthwn athwn lema mshh wamr dbthrwhy bywma whwh
On the next day, Moses said to the people, “You have sinned a great sin. Now I will go up to Yahweh. Perhaps I shall make atonement for your sin.”

ותב משה לקדם יי ואמר בבעו חב עמא הדין חובא רבא ועבדו להון דחלן דדהב:
ddhb dkhln lhwn webdw rba khwba hdyn ema khb bbew wamr yy lqdm mshh wthb
Moses returned to Yahweh, and said, “Oh, this people have sinned a great sin, and have made themselves gods of gold.

וכען אם שבקת לחוביהון ואם לא מחני כען מספרך די כתבתא:
kthbtha dy msprk ken mkhny la wam lkhwbyhwn shbqth am wken
Yet now, if you will, forgive their sin—and if not, please blot me out of your book which you have written.”
33
ואמר יי למשה מן די חב קדמי אמחניה מספרי:
mspry amkhnyh qdmy khb dy mn lmshh yy wamr
Yahweh said to Moses, “Whoever has sinned against me, I will blot him out of my book.

וכען אזיל דבר ית עמא לאתר די מללית לך הא מלאכי יהך קדמך וביום אסערותי ואסער עליהון חוביהון:
khwbyhwn elyhwn waser aserwthy wbywm qdmk yhk mlaky ha lk mllyth dy lathr ema yth dbr azyl wken
Now go, lead the people to the place of which I have spoken to you. Behold, my angel shall go before you. Nevertheless, in the day when I punish, I will punish them for their sin.”
