1
ואזל גברא מדבית לוי ונסיב ית בת לוי:
lwy bth yth wnsyb lwy mdbyth gbra wazl
A man of the house of Levi went and took a daughter of Levi as his wife.
2
ועדיאת אתתא וילידת בר וחזת יתה ארי טב הוא ואטמרתה תלתא ירחין:
yrkhyn thltha waTmrthh hwa Tb ary ythh wkhzth br wylydth aththa wedyath
The woman conceived and bore a son. When she saw that he was a fine child, she hid him three months.

ולא יכילת עוד לאטמרותה ונסיבת לה תבותא דגומא וחפתה בחמרא ובזפתא ושויאת בה ית רביא ושויתה ביערא על כיף נהרא:
nhra kyp el byera wshwythh rbya yth bh wshwyath wbzptha bkhmra wkhpthh dgwma thbwtha lh wnsybth laTmrwthh ewd ykylth wla
When she could no longer hide him, she took a papyrus basket for him, and coated it with tar and with pitch. She put the child in it, and laid it in the reeds by the river’s bank.

ואתעתדת אחתה מרחיק למידע מה יתעבד לה:
lh ythebd mh lmyde mrkhyq akhthh wathethdth
His sister stood far off, to see what would be done to him.

ונחתת בת פרעה למסחי על נהרא ועולימתהא מהלכן על כיף נהרא וחזת ית תבותא בגו יערא ואושטת ית אמתה ונסבתה:
wnsbthh amthh yth wawshTth yera bgw thbwtha yth wkhzth nhra kyp el mhlkn wewlymthha nhra el lmskhy preh bth wnkhthth
Pharaoh’s daughter came down to bathe at the river. Her maidens walked along by the riverside. She saw the basket among the reeds, and sent her servant to get it.

ופתחת וחזת ית רביא והא עולימא בכי וחסת עלוהי ואמרת מבני יהודאי הוא דין:
dyn hwa yhwday mbny wamrth elwhy wkhsth bky ewlyma wha rbya yth wkhzth wpthkhth
She opened it, and saw the child, and behold, the baby cried. She had compassion on him, and said, “This is one of the Hebrews’ children.”

ואמרת אחתה לבת פרעה האיזיל ואקרי ליך אתתא מינקתא מן יהודיתא ותוניק ליך ית רביא:
rbya yth lyk wthwnyq yhwdytha mn mynqtha aththa lyk waqry hayzyl preh lbth akhthh wamrth
Then his sister said to Pharaoh’s daughter, “Should I go and call a nurse for you from the Hebrew women, that she may nurse the child for you?”

ואמרת לה בת פרעה איזילי ואזלת עולמתא וקרת ית אמה דרביא:
drbya amh yth wqrth ewlmtha wazlth ayzyly preh bth lh wamrth
Pharaoh’s daughter said to her, “Go.” The young woman went and called the child’s mother.

ואמרת לה בת פרעה אובילי ית רביא הדין ואונקיהי לי ואנא אתן ית אגרך ונסיבת אתתא ית רביא ואונקתה:
wawnqthh rbya yth aththa wnsybth agrk yth athn wana ly wawnqyhy hdyn rbya yth awbyly preh bth lh wamrth
Pharaoh’s daughter said to her, “Take this child away, and nurse him for me, and I will give you your wages.” The woman took the child, and nursed it.

ורבא רביא ואיתיתה לבת פרעה והוה לה לבר וקרת שמה משה ואמרת ארי מן מיא שחלתה:
shkhlthh mya mn ary wamrth mshh shmh wqrth lbr lh whwh preh lbth waythythh rbya wrba
The child grew, and she brought him to Pharaoh’s daughter, and he became her son. She named him Moses, and said, “Because I drew him out of the water.”

והוה ביומיא האנון ורבא משה ונפק לות אחוהי וחזא בפלחנהון וחזא גבר מצרי מחי לגבר יהודי מאחוהי:
makhwhy yhwdy lgbr mkhy mtsry gbr wkhza bplkhnhwn wkhza akhwhy lwth wnpq mshh wrba hanwn bywmya whwh
In those days, when Moses had grown up, he went out to his brothers and saw their burdens. He saw an Egyptian striking a Hebrew, one of his brothers.

ואתפני לכא ולכא וחזא ארי לית גברא ומחא ית מצראה וטמרה בחלא:
bkhla wTmrh mtsrah yth wmkha gbra lyth ary wkhza wlka lka wathpny
He looked this way and that way, and when he saw that there was no one, he killed the Egyptian, and hid him in the sand.

ונפק ביומא תנינא והא תרין גברין יהודאין נצן ואמר לחיבא למא את מחי לחברך:
lkhbrk mkhy ath lma lkhyba wamr ntsn yhwdayn gbryn thryn wha thnyna bywma wnpq
He went out the second day, and behold, two men of the Hebrews were fighting with each other. He said to him who did the wrong, “Why do you strike your fellow?”

ואמר מן שויך לגבר רב ודין עלנא הלמקטלי את אמר כמא דקטלת ית מצראה ודחיל משה ואמר בקושטא אתידע פתגמא:
pthgma athyde bqwshTa wamr mshh wdkhyl mtsrah yth dqTlth kma amr ath hlmqTly elna wdyn rb lgbr shwyk mn wamr
He said, “Who made you a prince and a judge over us? Do you plan to kill me, as you killed the Egyptian?” Moses was afraid, and said, “Surely this thing is known.”

ושמע פרעה ית פתגמא הדין ובעא למקטל ית משה וערק משה מן קדם פרעה ויתיב בארעא דמדין ויתיב על בירא:
byra el wythyb dmdyn barea wythyb preh qdm mn mshh werq mshh yth lmqTl wbea hdyn pthgma yth preh wshme
Now when Pharaoh heard this thing, he sought to kill Moses. But Moses fled from the face of Pharaoh, and lived in the land of Midian, and he sat down by a well.

ולרבא דמדין שבע בנן ואתאה ודלאה ומלאה ית רהטיא לאשקאה ענא דאבוהן:
dabwhn ena lashqah rhTya yth wmlah wdlah wathah bnn shbe dmdyn wlrba
Now the priest of Midian had seven daughters. They came and drew water, and filled the troughs to water their father’s flock.

ואתו רעיא וטרדונון וקם משה ופרקנון ואשקי ית ענהן:
enhn yth washqy wprqnwn mshh wqm wTrdwnwn reya wathw
The shepherds came and drove them away; but Moses stood up and helped them, and watered their flock.

ואתאה לות רעואל אבוהן ואמר מה דין אוחיתון למיתי יומא דין:
dyn ywma lmythy awkhythwn dyn mh wamr abwhn rewal lwth wathah
When they came to Reuel, their father, he said, “How is it that you have returned so early today?”

ואמרא גברא מצראה שזבנא מיד רעיא ואף מדלא דלא לנא ואשקי ית ענא:
ena yth washqy lna dla mdla wap reya myd shzbna mtsrah gbra wamra
They said, “An Egyptian delivered us out of the hand of the shepherds, and moreover he drew water for us, and watered the flock.”
20
ואמר לבנתיה ואן הוא למא דנן שבקתין ית גברא קרן לה ויכול לחמא:
lkhma wykwl lh qrn gbra yth shbqthyn dnn lma hwa wan lbnthyh wamr
He said to his daughters, “Where is he? Why is it that you have left the man? Call him, that he may eat bread.”

וצבי משה למיתב עם גברא ויהב ית צפורה ברתה למשה:
lmshh brthh tspwrh yth wyhb gbra em lmythb mshh wtsby
Moses was content to dwell with the man. He gave Moses Zipporah, his daughter.

וילדת בר וקרא ית שמה גרשם ארי אמר דיר הויתי בארע נוכראה:
nwkrah bare hwythy dyr amr ary grshm shmh yth wqra br wyldth
She bore a son, and he named him Gershom, for he said, “I have lived as a foreigner in a foreign land.”

והוה ביומיא סגיאיא האנון ומית מלכא דמצרים ואתנחו בני ישראל מן פלחנא דהוה קשי עליהון וזעיקו וסליקת קבלתהון לקדם יי מן פלחנא:
plkhna mn yy lqdm qblthhwn wslyqth wzeyqw elyhwn qshy dhwh plkhna mn yshral bny wathnkhw dmtsrym mlka wmyth hanwn sgyaya bywmya whwh
In the course of those many days, the king of Egypt died, and the children of Israel sighed because of the bondage, and they cried, and their cry came up to God because of the bondage.
24
ושמיע קדם יי ית קבלתהון ודכיר יי ית קימה דעם אברהם דעם יצחק ודעם יעקב:
yeqb wdem ytskhq dem abrhm dem qymh yth yy wdkyr qblthhwn yth yy qdm wshmye
God heard their groaning, and God remembered his covenant with Abraham, with Isaac, and with Jacob.
