ואזל גברא מדבית לוי ונסיב ית בת לוי:
wazl gbra mdbyth lwy wnsyb yth bth lwy
A man of the house of Levi went and took a daughter of Levi as his wife.

ועדיאת אתתא וילידת בר וחזת יתה ארי טב הוא ואטמרתה תלתא ירחין:
wedyath aththa wylydth br wkhzth ythh ary Tb hwa waTmrthh thltha yrkhyn
The woman conceived and bore a son. When she saw that he was a fine child, she hid him three months.

ולא יכילת עוד לאטמרותה ונסיבת לה תבותא דגומא וחפתה בחמרא ובזפתא ושויאת בה ית רביא ושויתה ביערא על כיף נהרא:
wla ykylth ewd laTmrwthh wnsybth lh thbwtha dgwma wkhpthh bkhmra wbzptha wshwyath bh yth rbya wshwythh byera el kyp nhra
When she could no longer hide him, she took a papyrus basket for him, and coated it with tar and with pitch. She put the child in it, and laid it in the reeds by the river’s bank.

ואתעתדת אחתה מרחיק למידע מה יתעבד לה:
wathethdth akhthh mrkhyq lmyde mh ythebd lh
His sister stood far off, to see what would be done to him.

ונחתת בת פרעה למסחי על נהרא ועולימתהא מהלכן על כיף נהרא וחזת ית תבותא בגו יערא ואושטת ית אמתה ונסבתה:
wnkhthth bth preh lmskhy el nhra wewlymthha mhlkn el kyp nhra wkhzth yth thbwtha bgw yera wawshTth yth amthh wnsbthh
Pharaoh’s daughter came down to bathe at the river. Her maidens walked along by the riverside. She saw the basket among the reeds, and sent her servant to get it.

ופתחת וחזת ית רביא והא עולימא בכי וחסת עלוהי ואמרת מבני יהודאי הוא דין:
wpthkhth wkhzth yth rbya wha ewlyma bky wkhsth elwhy wamrth mbny yhwday hwa dyn
She opened it, and saw the child, and behold, the baby cried. She had compassion on him, and said, “This is one of the Hebrews’ children.”

ואמרת אחתה לבת פרעה האיזיל ואקרי ליך אתתא מינקתא מן יהודיתא ותוניק ליך ית רביא:
wamrth akhthh lbth preh hayzyl waqry lyk aththa mynqtha mn yhwdytha wthwnyq lyk yth rbya
Then his sister said to Pharaoh’s daughter, “Should I go and call a nurse for you from the Hebrew women, that she may nurse the child for you?”

ואמרת לה בת פרעה איזילי ואזלת עולמתא וקרת ית אמה דרביא:
wamrth lh bth preh ayzyly wazlth ewlmtha wqrth yth amh drbya
Pharaoh’s daughter said to her, “Go.” The young woman went and called the child’s mother.

ואמרת לה בת פרעה אובילי ית רביא הדין ואונקיהי לי ואנא אתן ית אגרך ונסיבת אתתא ית רביא ואונקתה:
wamrth lh bth preh awbyly yth rbya hdyn wawnqyhy ly wana athn yth agrk wnsybth aththa yth rbya wawnqthh
Pharaoh’s daughter said to her, “Take this child away, and nurse him for me, and I will give you your wages.” The woman took the child, and nursed it.

ורבא רביא ואיתיתה לבת פרעה והוה לה לבר וקרת שמה משה ואמרת ארי מן מיא שחלתה:
wrba rbya waythythh lbth preh whwh lh lbr wqrth shmh mshh wamrth ary mn mya shkhlthh
The child grew, and she brought him to Pharaoh’s daughter, and he became her son. She named him Moses, and said, “Because I drew him out of the water.”

והוה ביומיא האנון ורבא משה ונפק לות אחוהי וחזא בפלחנהון וחזא גבר מצרי מחי לגבר יהודי מאחוהי:
whwh bywmya hanwn wrba mshh wnpq lwth akhwhy wkhza bplkhnhwn wkhza gbr mtsry mkhy lgbr yhwdy makhwhy
In those days, when Moses had grown up, he went out to his brothers and saw their burdens. He saw an Egyptian striking a Hebrew, one of his brothers.

ואתפני לכא ולכא וחזא ארי לית גברא ומחא ית מצראה וטמרה בחלא:
wathpny lka wlka wkhza ary lyth gbra wmkha yth mtsrah wTmrh bkhla
He looked this way and that way, and when he saw that there was no one, he killed the Egyptian, and hid him in the sand.

ונפק ביומא תנינא והא תרין גברין יהודאין נצן ואמר לחיבא למא את מחי לחברך:
wnpq bywma thnyna wha thryn gbryn yhwdayn ntsn wamr lkhyba lma ath mkhy lkhbrk
He went out the second day, and behold, two men of the Hebrews were fighting with each other. He said to him who did the wrong, “Why do you strike your fellow?”

ואמר מן שויך לגבר רב ודין עלנא הלמקטלי את אמר כמא דקטלת ית מצראה ודחיל משה ואמר בקושטא אתידע פתגמא:
wamr mn shwyk lgbr rb wdyn elna hlmqTly ath amr kma dqTlth yth mtsrah wdkhyl mshh wamr bqwshTa athyde pthgma
He said, “Who made you a prince and a judge over us? Do you plan to kill me, as you killed the Egyptian?” Moses was afraid, and said, “Surely this thing is known.”

ושמע פרעה ית פתגמא הדין ובעא למקטל ית משה וערק משה מן קדם פרעה ויתיב בארעא דמדין ויתיב על בירא:
wshme preh yth pthgma hdyn wbea lmqTl yth mshh werq mshh mn qdm preh wythyb barea dmdyn wythyb el byra
Now when Pharaoh heard this thing, he sought to kill Moses. But Moses fled from the face of Pharaoh, and lived in the land of Midian, and he sat down by a well.

ולרבא דמדין שבע בנן ואתאה ודלאה ומלאה ית רהטיא לאשקאה ענא דאבוהן:
wlrba dmdyn shbe bnn wathah wdlah wmlah yth rhTya lashqah ena dabwhn
Now the priest of Midian had seven daughters. They came and drew water, and filled the troughs to water their father’s flock.

ואתו רעיא וטרדונון וקם משה ופרקנון ואשקי ית ענהן:
wathw reya wTrdwnwn wqm mshh wprqnwn washqy yth enhn
The shepherds came and drove them away; but Moses stood up and helped them, and watered their flock.

ואתאה לות רעואל אבוהן ואמר מה דין אוחיתון למיתי יומא דין:
wathah lwth rewal abwhn wamr mh dyn awkhythwn lmythy ywma dyn
When they came to Reuel, their father, he said, “How is it that you have returned so early today?”
19
ואמרא גברא מצראה שזבנא מיד רעיא ואף מדלא דלא לנא ואשקי ית ענא:
wamra gbra mtsrah shzbna myd reya wap mdla dla lna washqy yth ena
They said, “An Egyptian delivered us out of the hand of the shepherds, and moreover he drew water for us, and watered the flock.”

ואמר לבנתיה ואן הוא למא דנן שבקתין ית גברא קרן לה ויכול לחמא:
wamr lbnthyh wan hwa lma dnn shbqthyn yth gbra qrn lh wykwl lkhma
He said to his daughters, “Where is he? Why is it that you have left the man? Call him, that he may eat bread.”

וצבי משה למיתב עם גברא ויהב ית צפורה ברתה למשה:
wtsby mshh lmythb em gbra wyhb yth tspwrh brthh lmshh
Moses was content to dwell with the man. He gave Moses Zipporah, his daughter.

וילדת בר וקרא ית שמה גרשם ארי אמר דיר הויתי בארע נוכראה:
wyldth br wqra yth shmh grshm ary amr dyr hwythy bare nwkrah
She bore a son, and he named him Gershom, for he said, “I have lived as a foreigner in a foreign land.”
23
והוה ביומיא סגיאיא האנון ומית מלכא דמצרים ואתנחו בני ישראל מן פלחנא דהוה קשי עליהון וזעיקו וסליקת קבלתהון לקדם יי מן פלחנא:
whwh bywmya sgyaya hanwn wmyth mlka dmtsrym wathnkhw bny yshral mn plkhna dhwh qshy elyhwn wzeyqw wslyqth qblthhwn lqdm yy mn plkhna
In the course of those many days, the king of Egypt died, and the children of Israel sighed because of the bondage, and they cried, and their cry came up to God because of the bondage.

ושמיע קדם יי ית קבלתהון ודכיר יי ית קימה דעם אברהם דעם יצחק ודעם יעקב:
wshmye qdm yy yth qblthhwn wdkyr yy yth qymh dem abrhm dem ytskhq wdem yeqb
God heard their groaning, and God remembered his covenant with Abraham, with Isaac, and with Jacob.

וגלי קדם יי שעבודא דבני ישראל ואמר במימרה למפרקהון יי:
wgly qdm yy shebwda dbny yshral wamr bmymrh lmprqhwn yy
God saw the children of Israel, and God understood.
