ומרדכי ידע על ידא דאליהו כהנא רבא ית כל מה דאתעבד בשמי מרומא ומה דאתחיבו עמא בית ישראל לשתיצאה מגו עלמא והיכמא דאתכתיב ואתחתים להובדותהון מן עלוי ארעא היכדין אתכתיב ואתחתים בשמי מרומא על עיסק דאתהניאו מן סעודתיה דאחשורוש רשיעא ברם חותמא הוה חתין מן טינא ושדר מרי עלמא ית אליהו כהנא רבא לחואה למרדכי דיקום ויצלי קדם מרי עלמא על עמיה וכד ידע מרדכי בזע ית לבושוי ואלבש לבושא דשק על בסריה ושוי קיטמא על רישיה וקבל קבלתא רבתא ובכא במרירות נפשא בקל עצב:

Now when Mordecai found out all that was done, Mordecai tore his clothes and put on sackcloth with ashes, and went out into the middle of the city, and wailed loudly and bitterly.

ואתא עד קדם תרע פלטירא דמלכא ארום לית רשו לגבר למיעל לתרע פלטירא דמלכא כד לביש לבושא דשק:
dshq lbwsha lbysh kd dmlka plTyra lthre lmyel lgbr rshw lyth arwm dmlka plTyra thre qdm ed watha
He came even before the king’s gate, for no one is allowed inside the king’s gate clothed with sackcloth.

ובכל פלכא ופלכא ובכל קריא וקריא אתר דפתגם מלכא וגזירת דיניה מטי אבלא רבא ליהודאי וצומא ובכותא ומספדא ולבוש שק וקטמא הוה מתשם עלוי צדיקיא סגיאין:
sgyayn tsdyqya elwy mthshm hwh wqTma shq wlbwsh wmspda wbkwtha wtswma lyhwday rba abla mTy dynyh wgzyrth mlka dpthgm athr wqrya qrya wbkl wplka plka wbkl
In every province, wherever the king’s commandment and his decree came, there was great mourning among the Jews, and fasting, and weeping, and wailing; and many lay in sackcloth and ashes.

ועלן עולימן דאסתר ורבנהא וחויאו לה ואזדעזעת מלכתא לחדא ושדרת לבושי מלכותא למלבש ית מרדכי ולמעדי ית שקיה מעלויה ולא קבל:
qbl wla melwyh shqyh yth wlmedy mrdky yth lmlbsh mlkwtha lbwshy wshdrth lkhda mlktha wazdezeth lh wkhwyaw wrbnha dasthr ewlymn weln
Esther’s maidens and her eunuchs came and told her this, and the queen was exceedingly grieved. She sent clothing to Mordecai, to replace his sackcloth, but he didn’t receive it.

וקראת אסתר לדניאל דמתקרי התך די על מימר פומיה מתחתכן פתגמי מלכותא ופקדת ליה על מרדכי למדע מה דין קל בכותא די הוא בכי ועל מה דין לא קבל לבושי מלכותא דשדרת ליה:
lyh dshdrth mlkwtha lbwshy qbl la dyn mh wel bky hwa dy bkwtha ql dyn mh lmde mrdky el lyh wpqdth mlkwtha pthgmy mthkhthkn pwmyh mymr el dy hthk dmthqry ldnyal asthr wqrath
Then Esther called for Hathach, one of the king’s eunuchs, whom he had appointed to attend her, and commanded him to go to Mordecai, to find out what this was, and why it was.

ונפק התך למללא לות מרדכי לפתאה דקרתא די לקדם תרע פלטרין דמלכא:
dmlka plTryn thre lqdm dy dqrtha lpthah mrdky lwth lmlla hthk wnpq
So Hathach went out to Mordecai, to the city square which was before the king’s gate.

וחוי ליה מרדכי ית כל די ערעיה על עיסק דלא סגיד להמן ולא גחן לאנדרטיה וית דררא דממון כסף עסר אלפין ככרין די אמר המן למתקל על ידיהון דגבאין דממנן על בית גנזי מלכא בגין יהודאי להובדותהון:
lhwbdwthhwn yhwday bgyn mlka gnzy byth el dmmnn dgbayn ydyhwn el lmthql hmn amr dy kkryn alpyn esr ksp dmmwn drra wyth landrTyh gkhn wla lhmn sgyd dla eysq el ereyh dy kl yth mrdky lyh wkhwy
Mordecai told him of all that had happened to him, and the exact sum of the money that Haman had promised to pay to the king’s treasuries for the destruction of the Jews.

וית דיטגמא כתב גזירתא דאתיהיב בשושן לשציותהון יהב ליה לאחזאה ית אסתר ולחואה לה מה דחשב המן רשיעא על עמא דיהודאי ולפקדא עלה למיעל לות מלכא לפייסא ליה ולמבעי רחמין על עמה:
emh el rkhmyn wlmbey lyh lpyysa mlka lwth lmyel elh wlpqda dyhwday ema el rshyea hmn dkhshb mh lh wlkhwah asthr yth lakhzah lyh yhb lshtsywthhwn bshwshn dathyhyb gzyrtha kthb dyTgma wyth
He also gave him the copy of the writing of the decree that was given out in Susa to destroy them, to show it to Esther, and to declare it to her, and to urge her to go in to the king to make supplication to him, and to make request before him for her people.

ועל התך וחוי לאסתר ית פתגמי מרדכי:
mrdky pthgmy yth lasthr wkhwy hthk wel
Hathach came and told Esther the words of Mordecai.

ואמרת אסתר להתך למיזל ולמללא למרדכי ופקידת ליה על עיסק מרדכי דלא יגרי עם המן מצותא ארום דבבו דביני יעקב ועשו הוה נטר ליה:
lyh nTr hwh weshw yeqb dbyny dbbw arwm mtswtha hmn em ygry dla mrdky eysq el lyh wpqydth lmrdky wlmlla lmyzl lhthk asthr wamrth
Then Esther spoke to Hathach, and gave him a message to Mordecai:

ושויאת אסתר מלין בפום התך ואמרת ליה כדנא תימר למרדכי הלא המן רשיעא גזר על מימר אחשורוש דלא למיעל לות מלכא לדרתא גואה בלא רשו וכען כל עבדי מלכא ועמין דדירין בפלכי מלכא ידעין די כל גבר ואנתתא די יעול לות מלכא לדרתא גואה די לא מתקרי על פומיה דהמן חדא היא גזירת דיניה לממת לבר ממן די יושיט ליה מלכא ית תגדא דדהבא ויחי ואנא לא אתקריתי למיעל לות מלכא דין זמן תלתין יומין:
ywmyn thlthyn zmn dyn mlka lwth lmyel athqrythy la wana wykhy ddhba thgda yth mlka lyh ywshyT dy mmn lbr lmmth dynyh gzyrth hya khda dhmn pwmyh el mthqry la dy gwah ldrtha mlka lwth yewl dy wanththa gbr kl dy ydeyn mlka bplky ddyryn wemyn mlka ebdy kl wken rshw bla gwah ldrtha mlka lwth lmyel dla akhshwrwsh mymr el gzr rshyea hmn hla lmrdky thymr kdna lyh wamrth hthk bpwm mlyn asthr wshwyath
“All the king’s servants and the people of the king’s provinces know that whoever, whether man or woman, comes to the king into the inner court without being called, there is one law for him, that he be put to death, except those to whom the king might hold out the golden scepter, that he may live. I have not been called to come in to the king these thirty days.”

וכד חזא המן רשיעא ית התך דשמיה דניאל אעיל ונפק לות אסתר ותקיף רוגזיה ביה וקטליה ואזדמנו תמן מיכאל וגבריאל מלאכיא וחויאו למרדכי ית פתגמי אסתר:

They told Esther’s words to Mordecai.

ואמר מרדכי למיכאל ולגבריאל לאתבא לות אסתר כדנא תמרון לה לא תחשבי בנפשייכי למהך לאשתיזבא בבית מלכא מן כל יהודאי:
yhwday kl mn mlka bbyth lashthyzba lmhk bnpshyyky thkhshby la lh thmrwn kdna asthr lwth lathba wlgbryal lmykal mrdky wamr
Then Mordecai asked them to return this answer to Esther: “Don’t think to yourself that you will escape in the king’s house any more than all the Jews.

ארום אם משתק שתוקי בעידנא הדא ולא תפגיעי על יהודאי רוחא ושזבותא יקום ליהודאי מן אתר אוחרן בגין זכות אבהת עלמא וישזיב יתהון מרי עלמא מן יד בעלי דבביהון ואנת וגניסת בית אבהתך תובדין על ההיא חובתא ומן הוא חכימא די ינדע אין לשתא דאתיא בעידנא הדא את מטיא למחסן מלכותא:
mlkwtha lmkhsn mTya ath hda beydna dathya lshtha ayn ynde dy khkyma hwa wmn khwbtha hhya el thwbdyn abhthk byth wgnysth wanth dbbyhwn bely yd mn elma mry ythhwn wyshzyb elma abhth zkwth bgyn awkhrn athr mn lyhwday yqwm wshzbwtha rwkha yhwday el thpgyey wla hda beydna shthwqy mshthq am arwm
For if you remain silent now, then relief and deliverance will come to the Jews from another place, but you and your father’s house will perish. Who knows if you haven’t come to the kingdom for such a time as this?”

ואמרת אסתר למיכאל וגבריאל לאתבא לות מרדכי:

Then Esther asked them to answer Mordecai,

אזיל כנוס ית כל יהודאי די אשתכחון בשושן וצומו עלי לא תיכלון ולא תשתון תלתא יומין וצלו קדם מרי עלמא בליליא וביממא ואוף אנא ועולמתי נצום היכדין ובתר כן איעול לות מלכא דלא כדינא והיכמא דהובדית מן בית נשי ואידברית מנך באונסא כדין אובד מן חיי עלמא הדין בגין פורקן עמא בית ישראל:
yshral byth ema pwrqn bgyn hdyn elma khyy mn awbd kdyn bawnsa mnk waydbryth nshy byth mn dhwbdyth whykma kdyna dla mlka lwth ayewl kn wbthr hykdyn ntswm wewlmthy ana wawp wbymma blylya elma mry qdm wtslw ywmyn thltha thshthwn wla thyklwn la ely wtswmw bshwshn ashthkkhwn dy yhwday kl yth knws azyl
“Go, gather together all the Jews who are present in Susa, and fast for me, and neither eat nor drink three days, night or day. I and my maidens will also fast the same way. Then I will go in to the king, which is against the law; and if I perish, I perish.”
