בתר פתגמיא האלין כד פח ואשתדך מרוית חמריה וכד נח תקוף רוגזיה דמלכא אחשורוש למדכר ית ושתי מתיבן רברבנוי וכן אמרין הלא את הוא דחיבת עלה דין דקטול על מה דעבדת אמר להון מלכא אנא לא גזרית למקטלה אלהן די תעול קדמי ולא עלת ופקדית למעדי מנה מלכותא אמרו ליה לא הכי אלהן דין דקטול גזרת עלה בעטת שבע רברבניא מן יד תקוף רוגזיה וגזרי למהוי צליבן שבעא רברבניא על צליבא:
tslyba el rbrbnya shbea tslybn lmhwy wgzry rwgzyh thqwp yd mn rbrbnya shbe beTth elh gzrth dqTwl dyn alhn hky la lyh amrw mlkwtha mnh lmedy wpqdyth elth wla qdmy thewl dy alhn lmqTlh gzryth la ana mlka lhwn amr debdth mh el dqTwl dyn elh dkhybth hwa ath hla amryn wkn rbrbnwy mthybn wshthy yth lmdkr akhshwrwsh dmlka rwgzyh thqwp nkh wkd khmryh mrwyth washthdk pkh kd halyn pthgmya bthr
After these things, when the wrath of King Ahasuerus was pacified, he remembered Vashti, and what she had done, and what was decreed against her.

ואמרו עולמי דמלכא משומשנוי יבעון לצרוך מלכא עלמן בתולתן שפירן דחיזו:
dkhyzw shpyrn bthwlthn elmn mlka ltsrwk ybewn mshwmshnwy dmlka ewlmy wamrw
Then the king’s servants who served him said, “Let beautiful young virgins be sought for the king.

וימני מלכא אפיטרופין בכל פלכי מלכותיה ויכנשון ית כל עולימתא בתולתא שפירת חזו לשושן בירנתא לבית נשיא די תמן דימוסן ובנאין די תמן מתמני הגא רב סריס דמלכא נטר נשיא ויתגזר למהוי יהב סמתר משחהון:
mshkhhwn smthr yhb lmhwy wythgzr nshya nTr dmlka srys rb hga mthmny thmn dy wbnayn dymwsn thmn dy nshya lbyth byrntha lshwshn khzw shpyrth bthwltha ewlymtha kl yth wyknshwn mlkwthyh plky bkl apyTrwpyn mlka wymny
Let the king appoint officers in all the provinces of his kingdom, that they may gather together all the beautiful young virgins to the citadel of Susa, to the women’s house, to the custody of Hegai the king’s eunuch, keeper of the women. Let cosmetics be given them;

ועולמתא די תשפר קדם מלכא תעול למחסן מלכותא חלף ושתי ושפר פתגמא קדם מלכא ועבד הכי:
hky webd mlka qdm pthgma wshpr wshthy khlp mlkwtha lmkhsn thewl mlka qdm thshpr dy wewlmtha
and let the maiden who pleases the king be queen instead of Vashti.” The thing pleased the king, and he did so.

גבר חסידא ומודה ומצלי קדם אלהא על עמיה הוה בשושן בירנתא ושמיה מרדכי אתקרי על דהוה מתיל למירא דכיא בר יאיר בר שמעי בר גרא בר קיש גברא דמן שבט בנימין הוא שמעי דאקל ית דוד ובעא יואב למקטליה ולא שבקיה על דאסתכל ביה ברוח נבואה וחמא דאטמוסי מרדכי ואסתר למיפק מניה וכדו פסק שמעי מלמילד פקד דוד לשלמה בריה למקטל יתיה:

There was a certain Jew in the citadel of Susa whose name was Mordecai, the son of Jair, the son of Shimei, the son of Kish, a Benjamite,

די אזל בגלותא מן ירושלם עם גלוותא די אגליאת עם יכניה מלכא דיהודה די אגלי נבוכדנצר מלכא דבבל וכד צרא כורש ודריוש ית בבל נפק מרדכי מן בבל עם דניאל וכל כנישתא דישראל די הוו תמן בבבל נפקו מן תמן ועלו עם כורש מלכא למידר בשושן בירנתא:

who had been carried away from Jerusalem with the captives who had been carried away with Jeconiah king of Judah, whom Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon had carried away.

והוה מרבי ית הדסה היא אסתר ברת אחבוי ואמאי הוו קרין לה הדסה על די הות צדקתא וצדיקיא דמתילו לאסא אסתר הוו קרין לה על די הות צניעא בביתא דמרדכי שבעין וחמיש שנין ולא חזת אפי גבר אלהן אפי מרדכי דאתעבידת לה לתורבינא ארום לית לה אבא ואמא עולמתא שפירת ריוו ושפירת חיזו ובעידן דמית אבוהא אשתארת במעין דאמה וכד ילידת יתה מיתת אמה ונסבה מרדכי ליה בביתיה והוה קרי לה ברת:

He brought up Hadassah, that is, Esther, his uncle’s daughter; for she had neither father nor mother. The maiden was fair and beautiful; and when her father and mother were dead, Mordecai took her for his own daughter.

והוה כד אשתמע פתגם כרוז מלכא וגזרתיה ובאיתכנשות עולימן סגיאן לשושן בירנתא ליד הגי ואדברת אסתר באונסא ואיתעלת לבית מלכא לידא דהגי נטיר נשיא:

So, when the king’s commandment and his decree was heard, and when many maidens were gathered together to the citadel of Susa, to the custody of Hegai, Esther was taken into the king’s house, to the custody of Hegai, keeper of the women.

ושפרת עולמתא בעינוי ואטענת חסדא קדמוי ופקיד לאתבהלא ית סמתר רבותהא וית מתנתהא המניכין ולבושי מלכותא למהוי יהיבין לה וית שבע עולימתא לשמשותא שבע יומא דשבתא חולתא הות משמשא קדמאה בחד בשבתא רוקעיתא בתרין בשבתא גנוניתא בתלת בשבתא נהוריתא בארבע בשבתא רוחשיתא בחמש בשבתא חורפיתא בשתא בשבתא רגועיתא ביומא דשבתא כולהן צדיקתא וחזין למתן לה מיכלא ומשתיא על ידיהן מן ביתא דמלכותא ושני יתה וית עולמתהא לאוטבא להון ולפנקותהון בבית נשיא:
nshya bbyth wlpnqwthhwn lhwn lawTba ewlmthha wyth ythh wshny dmlkwtha bytha mn ydyhn el wmshthya mykla lh lmthn wkhzyn tsdyqtha kwlhn dshbtha bywma rgweytha bshbtha bshtha khwrpytha bshbtha bkhmsh rwkhshytha bshbtha barbe nhwrytha bshbtha bthlth gnwnytha bshbtha bthryn rwqeytha bshbtha bkhd qdmah mshmsha hwth khwltha dshbtha ywma shbe lshmshwtha ewlymtha shbe wyth lh yhybyn lmhwy mlkwtha wlbwshy hmnykyn mthnthha wyth rbwthha smthr yth lathbhla wpqyd qdmwy khsda waTenth beynwy ewlmtha wshprth
The maiden pleased him, and she obtained kindness from him. He quickly gave her cosmetics and her portions of food, and the seven choice maidens who were to be given her out of the king’s house. He moved her and her maidens to the best place in the women’s house.

לא חותא אסתר ית עמה ותלדותה מטול דמרדכי פקדה דלא תחוי ומטול מה פקדה דלא תחוי מטול דחשב בלביה מרדכי ושתי דעבדת יקרא לנפשה ולא צבית דייתי למחמי שופרא למלכא ולשליטיא דן יתה דינין בישין וקטיל יתה ולמה לא חויאת אסתר עמה דתלדותה דלמא רגיז עלה מלכא וקטיל לה ומשיצי עמא די היא מניה לכן פקיד יתה דלא תחוי עמה ותלדותה:

Esther had not made known her people nor her relatives, because Mordecai had instructed her that she should not make it known.

ובכל יומא ויומא מרדכי הוה מצלי ואזל קדם דרתא די בבית נשיא למידע ית שלמא דאסתר ומה אתעבד בה:
bh athebd wmh dasthr shlma yth lmyde nshya bbyth dy drtha qdm wazl mtsly hwh mrdky wywma ywma wbkl
Mordecai walked every day in front of the court of the women’s house, to find out how Esther was doing, and what would become of her.

וכד מטא סדור עולמתא ועולמתא למיעל קדם מלכא אחשורוש מסוף דיהוי לה כהלכת נשיא דמתינן בתפנוקיהון תרי עשר ירחי שתא ארום כדין שלמין יומי סמתוריהון שתא ירחין בטכסת ואנפקינון דמנתר ית סערא ומפנק ית בסרא ושתא ירחין בבוסמיא ובסמתורי נשיא:
nshya wbsmthwry bbwsmya yrkhyn wshtha bsra yth wmpnq sera yth dmnthr wanpqynwn bTksth yrkhyn shtha smthwryhwn ywmy shlmyn kdyn arwm shtha yrkhy eshr thry bthpnwqyhwn dmthynn nshya khlkth lh dyhwy mswp akhshwrwsh mlka qdm lmyel wewlmtha ewlmtha sdwr mTa wkd
Each young woman’s turn came to go in to King Ahasuerus after her purification for twelve months (for so were the days of their purification accomplished, six months with oil of myrrh, and six months with sweet fragrances and with preparations for beautifying women).

ובהדין זמן בתר דשלמין תרי עסר ירחי שתא עולמתא עילא לות מלכא ית כל רב וסרכן די צביא למימר מן יד יתיהב לה למיעל עמה מבית נשיא עד בית מלכא:
mlka byth ed nshya mbyth emh lmyel lh ythyhb yd mn lmymr tsbya dy wsrkn rb kl yth mlka lwth eyla ewlmtha shtha yrkhy esr thry dshlmyn bthr zmn wbhdyn
The young woman then came to the king like this: whatever she desired was given her to go with her out of the women’s house to the king’s house.

בעדן רמשא הות עילא לשמושיה ית מלכא ובעדן צפרא הות תיבא לבית נשיא תניין לידא דשעשגז רבא דמלכא נטיר מטרוניתא ומכאן ואילך לא תיעול תוב לות מלכא ארום אלהן ההיא דיתרעי בה מלכא וקרי לה בשמא מפרש וכתיב:
wkthyb mprsh bshma lh wqry mlka bh dythrey hhya alhn arwm mlka lwth thwb thyewl la waylk wmkan mTrwnytha nTyr dmlka rba dsheshgz lyda thnyyn nshya lbyth thyba hwth tspra wbedn mlka yth lshmwshyh eyla hwth rmsha bedn
In the evening she went, and on the next day she returned into the second women’s house, to the custody of Shaashgaz, the king’s eunuch, who kept the concubines. She came in to the king no more, unless the king delighted in her, and she was called by name.

וכד מטא סידור אסתר ברת אביחיל אחבוי דמרדכי די נסבה ליה לברת למיעל לות מלכא לא תבעת צרוך לכל מדעם ארום אלהן ית מן דיימר הגי רבא די למלכא נטר נשיא והות אסתר טעינת טיבו ומשכחא רחמין בעיני כל חזהא:
khzha kl beyny rkhmyn wmshkkha Tybw Teynth asthr whwth nshya nTr lmlka dy rba hgy dyymr mn yth alhn arwm mdem lkl tsrwk thbeth la mlka lwth lmyel lbrth lyh nsbh dy dmrdky akhbwy abykhyl brth asthr sydwr mTa wkd
Now when the turn of Esther, the daughter of Abihail the uncle of Mordecai, who had taken her for his daughter, came to go in to the king, she required nothing but what Hegai the king’s eunuch, the keeper of the women, advised. Esther obtained favor in the sight of all those who looked at her.

ואדברת אסתר לות מלכא אחשורוש לאתתא ואעל יתה לבית אדרון בית מלכותיה בירחא עשיראה הוא ירחא דטבת בשתא שביעתא למלכותיה:
lmlkwthyh shbyetha bshtha dTbth yrkha hwa eshyrah byrkha mlkwthyh byth adrwn lbyth ythh wael laththa akhshwrwsh mlka lwth asthr wadbrth
So Esther was taken to King Ahasuerus into his royal house in the tenth month, which is the month Tebeth, in the seventh year of his reign.

ורחם מלכא ית אסתר מכל נשיא דהוו מתנסבן ואטענת רחמין וטיבו קדמוי מכל בתולתא ושוי מניכא דדהבא על רישה וטרד מן קיטון בית דמכיה ית איקונין דושתי ואוקים תמן ית איקונין דאסתר ואותיב יתה על כורסי תנין ואמליך יתה חלף ושתי:
wshthy khlp ythh wamlyk thnyn kwrsy el ythh wawthyb dasthr ayqwnyn yth thmn wawqym dwshthy ayqwnyn yth dmkyh byth qyTwn mn wTrd ryshh el ddhba mnyka wshwy bthwltha mkl qdmwy wTybw rkhmyn waTenth mthnsbn dhww nshya mkl asthr yth mlka wrkhm
The king loved Esther more than all the women, and she obtained favor and kindness in his sight more than all the virgins; so that he set the royal crown on her head, and made her queen instead of Vashti.

ועבד מלכא משתיא רבא לכל רברבנוי ועבדוי והוה קרי ליה משתיא דאסתר והנית שבוק כרגא לפלכיא עבד ויהב ליה מתנן וחולק כמסת ידא דמלכא:
dmlka yda kmsth wkhwlq mthnn lyh wyhb ebd lplkya krga shbwq whnyth dasthr mshthya lyh qry whwh webdwy rbrbnwy lkl rba mshthya mlka webd
Then the king made a great feast for all his princes and his servants, even Esther’s feast; and he proclaimed a holiday in the provinces, and gave gifts according to the king’s bounty.

ובאתכנשות בתולתא זמנא תנינא ומרדכי מצלי ואזל ויתיב בתרע מלכא:
mlka bthre wythyb wazl mtsly wmrdky thnyna zmna bthwltha wbathknshwth
When the virgins were gathered together the second time, Mordecai was sitting in the king’s gate.

בזמנא הדא הוה שאל לה מלכא מאידן אומא את ולא הות אסתר מחויא ילדותה וית עמה כמא דפקיד עלה מרדכי וית מאמר מרדכי הות אסתר עבדת שביא ומועדיא הות נטרת ביומי ריחוקה הות מזדהרא תבשילין וחמרא דעממין נוכראין לא הות טעמא וכל פקודיא דאתחייבן בהון נשיא דבית ישראל הות נטרא על פום מרדכי היכמא דהות נטרת כד הות מתרביא עמיה:

Esther had not yet made known her relatives nor her people, as Mordecai had commanded her; for Esther obeyed Mordecai, like she did when she was brought up by him.

ביומיא האנון ומרדכי יתיב בסנהדרין דתקינת ליה אסתר בתרע מלכא וכד חזו תרין רברבניא כדין כנסו וקצפו ואמרו דין לדין הלא מלכתא בפתגם מלכא בעיא לסלקא יתן ולאוקמא ית מרדכי לית רבותא לסלקא תרין קלוסנתרין ולאוקמא חד בכן אתיעטו בלישנהון בגתן ותרש טרסאי תרין רברבני מלכא מנטרי פלטירא ואמרו לאשקאה סמא דמותא דמטול לאסתר מלכתא ולאושיטא ידא במלכא אחשורוש למקטליה בסיפא בבית דמוכיה:
dmwkyh bbyth bsypa lmqTlyh akhshwrwsh bmlka yda wlawshyTa mlktha lasthr dmTwl dmwtha sma lashqah wamrw plTyra mnTry mlka rbrbny thryn Trsay wthrsh bgthn blyshnhwn athyeTw bkn khd wlawqma qlwsnthryn thryn lslqa rbwtha lyth mrdky yth wlawqma ythn lslqa beya mlka bpthgm mlktha hla ldyn dyn wamrw wqtspw knsw kdyn rbrbnya thryn khzw wkd mlka bthre asthr lyh dthqynth bsnhdryn ythyb wmrdky hanwn bywmya
In those days, while Mordecai was sitting in the king’s gate, two of the king’s eunuchs, Bigthan and Teresh, who were doorkeepers, were angry, and sought to lay hands on the King Ahasuerus.

ואשתמודע פתגמא למרדכי על דהוה חכים למללא בשבעין לישנין וחוי לאסתר מלכתא ואמרת אסתר למלכא ואתכתיב על שום מרדכי:
mrdky shwm el wathkthyb lmlka asthr wamrth mlktha lasthr wkhwy lyshnyn bshbeyn lmlla khkym dhwh el lmrdky pthgma washthmwde
This thing became known to Mordecai, who informed Esther the queen; and Esther informed the king in Mordecai’s name.

ואתבע פתגמא ואשתכח קשוט ואצטליבו תרויהון על קיסא ואתכתיב בספרא דכרניא דמתקרי תדירא קדם מלכא:
mlka qdm thdyra dmthqry dkrnya bspra wathkthyb qysa el thrwyhwn watsTlybw qshwT washthkkh pthgma wathbe
When this matter was investigated, and it was found to be so, they were both hanged on a gallows; and it was written in the book of the chronicles in the king’s presence.
