אית בשתא דחזית בעלמא הדין תחות שמשא ורבתא היא על בני אנשא:
ansha bny el hya wrbtha shmsha thkhwth hdyn belma dkhzyth bshtha ayth
There is an evil which I have seen under the sun, and it is heavy on men:

גבר די הב ליה יי במזליה עותר ונכסין וליתוהי מחסר לנפשיה מכל די יתרעי ולא אשלטיה יי על עותריה למטעם מניה אלהין ימות בלא ולד ולא חס על קריביה לאחסנותיה ליה ארום אנתתיה תהא מתנסבא לגבר חילונאי ויחסניניה ויכליניה כל דין גרמו ליה חובוהי דלא עבד מניה מדעם טב ואתהפיך עתריה למהוי ליה להבלו ולמרעא בישא:
bysha wlmrea lhblw lyh lmhwy ethryh wathhpyk Tb mdem mnyh ebd dla khwbwhy lyh grmw dyn kl wyklynyh wykhsnynyh khylwnay lgbr mthnsba thha anththyh arwm lyh lakhsnwthyh qrybyh el khs wla wld bla ymwth alhyn mnyh lmTem ewthryh el yy ashlTyh wla ythrey dy mkl lnpshyh mkhsr wlythwhy wnksyn ewthr bmzlyh yy lyh hb dy gbr
a man to whom God gives riches, wealth, and honor, so that he lacks nothing for his soul of all that he desires, yet God gives him no power to eat of it, but an alien eats it. This is vanity, and it is an evil disease.

אין יוליד גבר מאה בנין ושנין סגיאין ייחי ובשלטנותא ורבנותא הוא די יהון יומי שנוהי ונפשיה לא שבעת מן טבתא דהות ליה על די רחים על עתריה ולא קנא מניה שמא טבא אף בית קבורתא לא הות מזמנא ליה אמרית אנא במימרי דטב מניה שלילא דלא חזא עלמא הדין:
hdyn elma khza dla shlyla mnyh dTb bmymry ana amryth lyh mzmna hwth la qbwrtha byth ap Tba shma mnyh qna wla ethryh el rkhym dy el lyh dhwth Tbtha mn shbeth la wnpshyh shnwhy ywmy yhwn dy hwa wrbnwtha wbshlTnwtha yykhy sgyayn wshnyn bnyn mah gbr ywlyd ayn
If a man fathers a hundred children, and lives many years, so that the days of his years are many, but his soul is not filled with good, and moreover he has no burial, I say that a stillborn child is better than he;

ארום בהבלותא אתא בעלמא הדין ובחשוכא יזיל לעלמא ההוא ובחשוכא שמיה מתחפי מן בגלל דלית ליה זכותא ושום טב לא קנא למהוי מדכר:
mdkr lmhwy qna la Tb wshwm zkwtha lyh dlyth bgll mn mthkhpy shmyh wbkhshwka hhwa lelma yzyl wbkhshwka hdyn belma atha bhblwtha arwm
for it comes in vanity, and departs in darkness, and its name is covered with darkness.

ואף נהור אוריתא לא חמא ולא ידע בין טב לביש למבחן בין עלמא הדין לעלמא דאתי:
dathy lelma hdyn elma byn lmbkhn lbysh Tb byn yde wla khma la awrytha nhwr wap
Moreover it has not seen the sun nor known it. This has rest rather than the other.

ואלולי הוו יומי חיוהי דגברא תרין אלפין שנין ובאוריתא לא עסיק ודינא וצדקתא לא עבד בשבועת מימרא דיי דביום מותיה נחתא נפשא לגיהנם לאתר חד דכל חייבא אזלין תמן:
thmn azlyn khyyba dkl khd lathr lgyhnm npsha nkhtha mwthyh dbywm dyy mymra bshbweth ebd la wtsdqtha wdyna esyq la wbawrytha shnyn alpyn thryn dgbra khywhy ywmy hww walwly
Yes, though he live a thousand years twice told, and yet fails to enjoy good, don’t all go to one place?

כל טורח דגברא בדיל מזון פומיה הוא טרח ועל מימר פומא דיי מתזן ואף נפשא דאנש לא תשבע מיכלא ומשתיא:
wmshthya mykla thshbe la dansh npsha wap mthzn dyy pwma mymr wel Trkh hwa pwmyh mzwn bdyl dgbra Twrkh kl
All the labor of man is for his mouth, and yet the appetite is not filled.

ארום מה מותרא אית לחכימא בעלמא הדין יתיר מן שטיא בגין דרא בישא דלא מתקבל עלויהון ומה אית לההוא גברא עניא למעבד אלהין למעסק באוריתא דיי בגין די ינדע היכדין עתיד למהך לכל קביל צדיקיא בגנתא דעדן:
dedn bgntha tsdyqya qbyl lkl lmhk ethyd hykdyn ynde dy bgyn dyy bawrytha lmesq alhyn lmebd enya gbra lhhwa ayth wmh elwyhwn mthqbl dla bysha dra bgyn shTya mn ythyr hdyn belma lkhkyma ayth mwthra mh arwm
For what advantage has the wise more than the fool? What has the poor man, that knows how to walk before the living?

טב לגברא למחדי על מה דאית ליה ולמעבד צדקתא ולמחמי אגר טב על עובדוי ליום דינא רבא מן די יזיל לעלמא ההוא בסגוף נפש ברם דין לגברא חיבא הבלו ותבירות רוחא:
rwkha wthbyrwth hblw khyba lgbra dyn brm npsh bsgwp hhwa lelma yzyl dy mn rba dyna lywm ewbdwy el Tb agr wlmkhmy tsdqtha wlmebd lyh dayth mh el lmkhdy lgbra Tb
Better is the sight of the eyes than the wandering of the desire. This also is vanity and a chasing after wind.

מה דהוה בעלמא הא כבר אתקרי שמיה ואשתמודע לבני אנשא מן יומא דהוה אדם קדמאה וכולא גזירת מימרא דיי היא ולית רשו לגברא למיקם בדינא עם מרי עלמא דתקיף מניה:
mnyh dthqyp elma mry em bdyna lmyqm lgbra rshw wlyth hya dyy mymra gzyrth wkwla qdmah adm dhwh ywma mn ansha lbny washthmwde shmyh athqry kbr ha belma dhwh mh
Whatever has been, its name was given long ago; and it is known what man is; neither can he contend with him who is mightier than he.

ארום אית פתגמין סגיאין דמסגן הבלו בעלמא מה מותר אית לגבר דמתעסק בהון:
bhwn dmthesq lgbr ayth mwthr mh belma hblw dmsgn sgyayn pthgmyn ayth arwm
For there are many words that create vanity. What does that profit man?

ארום מן הוא די ינדע מה יוטיב לאנשא בעלמא הדין אלהין למעסק באוריתא די אנון חיי עלמא וכל מנין יומי חיי הבלו די יחי בעדן מותיה אנון חשיבין בעינוי כטללא דמן הוא די יחוי לאנשא מה דעתיד למהוי באפוהי בתרוהי בעלמא הדין תחות שמשא:
shmsha thkhwth hdyn belma bthrwhy bapwhy lmhwy dethyd mh lansha ykhwy dy hwa dmn kTlla beynwy khshybyn anwn mwthyh bedn ykhy dy hblw khyy ywmy mnyn wkl elma khyy anwn dy bawrytha lmesq alhyn hdyn belma lansha ywTyb mh ynde dy hwa mn arwm
For who knows what is good for man in life, all the days of his vain life which he spends like a shadow? For who can tell a man what will be after him under the sun?
