ותהי דכיר ית בריך ליקרותיה ביומי רביותך עד דלא ייתון לותך יומי בישות וימטון עלך שנין דתימר לית לי בהון רעוא:
rewa bhwn ly lyth dthymr shnyn elk wymTwn byshwth ywmy lwthk yythwn dla ed rbywthk bywmy lyqrwthyh bryk yth dkyr wthhy
Remember also your Creator in the days of your youth, before the evil days come, and the years draw near, when you will say, “I have no pleasure in them;”

עד דלא ישתני זיו יקרא אפך דמתיל לשמשא ונהורא דעינך עד דלא יסתמון והדר ליסתך עד דלא יתקדרון ובבי עינך דמתילין לכוכביא עד דלא יתעממון ריסי עינך יהון זלגין דמעות כעננין בתר מטרא:
mTra bthr kennyn dmewth zlgyn yhwn eynk rysy ythemmwn dla ed lkwkbya dmthylyn eynk wbby ythqdrwn dla ed lysthk whdr ysthmwn dla ed deynk wnhwra lshmsha dmthyl apk yqra zyw yshthny dla ed
Before the sun, the light, the moon, and the stars are darkened, and the clouds return after the rain;

ביומא דיזועון ארכובתך ויתנקשון אדרעך ויתבטלון ככי פומך עד לא יכלין למלעס מיכלא ויתעממון עינך דמסתכלן בחרכי רישך:
ryshk bkhrky dmsthkln eynk wythemmwn mykla lmles yklyn la ed pwmk kky wythbTlwn adrek wythnqshwn arkwbthk dyzwewn bywma
in the day when the keepers of the house shall tremble, and the strong men shall bow themselves, and the grinders cease because they are few, and those who look out of the windows are darkened,

ויהון ריגלך כבילן מלמפק בשוקא ויעדי מנך רעות מיכלא ותהי מתער משינתך על עיסק קל עופא כאלו על גנביא דאזלין בליליא ויתרפסון ספותך מלמימר שירתא:
shyrtha mlmymr spwthk wythrpswn blylya dazlyn gnbya el kalw ewpa ql eysq el mshynthk mther wthhy mykla rewth mnk wyedy bshwqa mlmpq kbyln ryglk wyhwn
and the doors shall be shut in the street; when the sound of the grinding is low, and one shall rise up at the voice of a bird, and all the daughters of music shall be brought low;

אף מן עובדין דהוו מן קדמת דנא תהי דחיל למדכר יתהון וגבשושיתא קלילא מתילא באנפי נפשך לטור רם בעדן מהלכך באורחא ותפיץ ריש שזרתך מן כחישותא כשגדא ויתנפחון אסתוורי רגלך ותתמנע משכנא ארום אתפני אנשא למהך לבית קבורתיה ויסחרון מלאכיא תבעי דינך כספדיא דמסחרין בשוקא למכתב דין חושבנך:
khwshbnk dyn lmkthb bshwqa dmskhryn kspdya dynk thbey mlakya wyskhrwn qbwrthyh lbyth lmhk ansha athpny arwm mshkna wththmne rglk asthwwry wythnpkhwn kshgda kkhyshwtha mn shzrthk rysh wthpyts bawrkha mhlkk bedn rm lTwr npshk banpy mthyla qlyla wgbshwshytha ythhwn lmdkr dkhyl thhy dna qdmth mn dhww ewbdyn mn ap
yes, they shall be afraid of heights, and terrors will be on the way; and the almond tree shall blossom, and the grasshopper shall be a burden, and desire shall fail; because man goes to his everlasting home, and the mourners go about the streets;

עד די לא יתאלם לישנך מלמללא ותהי רעיעא מוקרא דרישך ותתבר מרירתך על כבדך וירהט גופך בגו קברך:

before the silver cord is severed, or the golden bowl is broken, or the pitcher is broken at the spring, or the wheel broken at the cistern,

ויתוב בסרך דאתברי מן עפרא עלוי ארעא היכמא דהוה מלקדמין ורוח נשמתך תתוב למיקם בדינא קדם יי דיהבה לך:
lk dyhbh yy qdm bdyna lmyqm ththwb nshmthk wrwkh mlqdmyn dhwh hykma area elwy epra mn dathbry bsrk wythwb
and the dust returns to the earth as it was, and the spirit returns to God who gave it.

כד אסתכל שלמה מלכא דישראל בהבלו דעלמא הדין ובהבלין דעבדין בני אנשא אמר קהלת במימריה כולא הבלו:
hblw kwla bmymryh qhlth amr ansha bny debdyn wbhblyn hdyn delma bhblw dyshral mlka shlmh asthkl kd
“Vanity of vanities,” says the Preacher. “All is vanity!”

ויותר מן כל בני אנשא הוה שלמה די מתקרי קהלת חכים ותוב הוה מאליף מנדעא ית עמא בית ישראל ואצית לקל חכימיא ובלש בספרי חוכמתא וברוח נבואה מן קדם יי תקין ספרי חוכמתא ומתלין דסכלתנו סגיאין לחדא:
lkhda sgyayn dsklthnw wmthlyn khwkmtha spry thqyn yy qdm mn nbwah wbrwkh khwkmtha bspry wblsh khkymya lql watsyth yshral byth ema yth mndea malyp hwh wthwb khkym qhlth mthqry dy shlmh hwh ansha bny kl mn wywthr
Further, because the Preacher was wise, he still taught the people knowledge. Yes, he pondered, sought out, and set in order many proverbs.

בעא שלמה מלכא דמתקרי קהלת בחוכמתיה למידן דינין על הרהורי לבא דאנשא ובלא סהדי בכן אתאמר ליה ברוח נבואה מן קדם יי הא כבר אכתיב בספר אוריתא על ידוהי דמשה רבהון דישראל תקנין פתגמין ומהימנין על מימר סהדיא יקום פתגם:
pthgm yqwm shdya mymr el wmhymnyn pthgmyn thqnyn dyshral rbhwn dmshh ydwhy el awrytha bspr akthyb kbr ha yy qdm mn nbwah brwkh lyh athamr bkn shdy wbla dansha lba hrhwry el dynyn lmydn bkhwkmthyh qhlth dmthqry mlka shlmh bea
The Preacher sought to find out acceptable words, and that which was written blamelessly, words of truth.

פתגמי חכימין מתילין לזקתין ולקלשונין דאציתין דאנצין לאלפא חוכמתא לסריקי מנדעא היכמא דמאליף זיקת לתורתא ורבני סנהדרין מרי הלכתין ומדרשין דאתיהיבו על ידוי דמשה נביא דרעא בלחודוהי ית עמא בית ישראל במדברא במנא ובריגוגין:
wbrygwgyn bmna bmdbra yshral byth ema yth blkhwdwhy drea nbya dmshh ydwy el dathyhybw wmdrshyn hlkthyn mry snhdryn wrbny lthwrtha zyqth dmalyp hykma mndea lsryqy khwkmtha lalpa dantsyn datsythyn wlqlshwnyn lzqthyn mthylyn khkymyn pthgmy
The words of the wise are like goads; and like nails well fastened are words from the masters of assemblies, which are given from one shepherd.

ויתיר מנהון בני הזהר למעבד ספרי חוכמתא סגי עד לית סוף ולמעסק בפתגמי אוריתא ולאסתכלא בליאות בשרא:
bshra blyawth wlasthkla awrytha bpthgmy wlmesq swp lyth ed sgy khwkmtha spry lmebd hzhr bny mnhwn wythyr
Furthermore, my son, be admonished: of making many books there is no end; and much study is a weariness of the flesh.

סוף פתגם דאתעביד בעלמא בצנעא כולא עתיד לאתפרסמא ולאשתמעא לכל בני אנשא בגין כן ית מימרא דיי הוי דחיל וית פקודוי הוי נטיר דלא למחב בסתרא ואין תחוב הוי זהיר למתב ארום כדין חזי למהוי אורח כל אינש:
aynsh kl awrkh lmhwy khzy kdyn arwm lmthb zhyr hwy thkhwb wayn bsthra lmkhb dla nTyr hwy pqwdwy wyth dkhyl hwy dyy mymra yth kn bgyn ansha bny lkl wlashthmea lathprsma ethyd kwla btsnea belma dathebyd pthgm swp
This is the end of the matter. All has been heard. Fear God and keep his commandments; for this is the whole duty of man.

ארום ית כל עובדא דיי ייעיל ליום דינא רבא ועתיד לפרסמא על פתגם דאתכסי מן בני אנשא אין טב ואין ביש:
bysh wayn Tb ayn ansha bny mn dathksy pthgm el lprsma wethyd rba dyna lywm yyeyl dyy ewbda kl yth arwm
For God will bring every work into judgment, with every hidden thing, whether it is good, or whether it is evil.
