ויצרא בישא דשכין על תרעי לבא הי כדבובא וגרים מותא בעלמא על דמסרי חכימא בעדן דחטי ומחביל שמא טבא דהוה דמי מן קדמת דנא למשח רבותא דמבסם בבוסמנין וכמה יאי ויקיר יתיר מן חוכמתא חכימין ועותר עתירין גבר דטפשותיה זעיר וקליל:
wqlyl zeyr dTpshwthyh gbr ethyryn wewthr khkymyn khwkmtha mn ythyr wyqyr yay wkmh bbwsmnyn dmbsm rbwtha lmshkh dna qdmth mn dmy dhwh Tba shma wmkhbyl dkhTy bedn khkyma dmsry el belma mwtha wgrym kdbwba hy lba threy el dshkyn bysha wytsra
Dead flies cause the oil of the perfumer to produce an evil odor; so does a little folly outweigh wisdom and honor.

לבא דחכימיא למקני אוריתא דאתיהיבת ביד ימינא דיי ולבא דשטיא למקני נכסין דכסף ודהב:
wdhb dksp nksyn lmqny dshTya wlba dyy ymyna byd dathyhybth awrytha lmqny dkhkymya lba
A wise man’s heart is at his right hand, but a fool’s heart at his left.

ואף באורחא סריכא בעדן דשטיא אזיל לביה חסיר מן חוכמתא ועביד מלין דלא תקנין לאתעובדא וכולא אמרין דשטיא הוא:
hwa dshTya amryn wkwla lathewbda thqnyn dla mlyn webyd khwkmtha mn khsyr lbyh azyl dshTya bedn sryka bawrkha wap
Yes also when the fool walks by the way, his understanding fails him, and he says to everyone that he is a fool.

אין רוחא דיצרא בישא מתל בך ומתגבר למסק עלך אתרך טב די הויתא נהיג למיקם ביה לא תשבק ארום פתגמי אוריתא אתבריאו אסו בעלמא למשבק ולמנשי מן קדם יי חובין רברבין:
rbrbyn khwbyn yy qdm mn wlmnshy lmshbq belma asw athbryaw awrytha pthgmy arwm thshbq la byh lmyqm nhyg hwytha dy Tb athrk elk lmsq wmthgbr bk mthl bysha dytsra rwkha ayn
If the spirit of the ruler rises up against you, don’t leave your place; for gentleness lays great offenses to rest.

אית בישתא דחזית בעלמא הדין תחות שמשא ומה נזקא עלמא בפתגמא דשלותא דנפקא מהחצפא על גברא ומן קדם שולטן:
shwlTn qdm wmn gbra el mhkhtspa dnpqa dshlwtha bpthgma elma nzqa wmh shmsha thkhwth hdyn belma dkhzyth byshtha ayth
There is an evil which I have seen under the sun, the sort of error which proceeds from the ruler.

יהב יי ית מלכא רשיעא ושטיא למהוי בריא במזליה ומשמיש באצלחותא מן שמיה מרומא וחילותוהי גיותנין וסגיאין ועמך בית ישראל משתעבדין תחותוהי בגלותא ומן סגיאות חוביהון עתירי נכסין מתמסכנין ובמכיכותא יתבין ביני עממיא:
emmya byny ythbyn wbmkykwtha mthmsknyn nksyn ethyry khwbyhwn sgyawth wmn bglwtha thkhwthwhy mshthebdyn yshral byth wemk wsgyayn gywthnyn wkhylwthwhy mrwma shmyh mn batslkhwtha wmshmysh bmzlyh brya lmhwy wshTya rshyea mlka yth yy yhb
Folly is set in great dignity, and the rich sit in a low place.

אמר שלמה מלכא ברוח נבואה חזית עממיא דהוו משתעבדין מן קדמת דנא לעמא בית ישראל מתגברין ורוכבין על סוסון בארכונין ועמא בית ישראל ורברבניהון אזלין הי כעבדין על ארעא:
area el kebdyn hy azlyn wrbrbnyhwn yshral byth wema barkwnyn swswn el wrwkbyn mthgbryn yshral byth lema dna qdmth mn mshthebdyn dhww emmya khzyth nbwah brwkh mlka shlmh amr
I have seen servants on horses, and princes walking like servants on the earth.

ענת מדת דינא וכן אמרת אנון גרמו להון כל דא היכמא דגבר דכרי שוחא בפרשת אורחא בה אתחיב למפל ואומא די עברת על גזירת מימרא דיי ותקיפו גודא דעלמא נפלו ביד מלכא רשיעא דנכית להון כחויא:
kkhwya lhwn dnkyth rshyea mlka byd nplw delma gwda wthqypw dyy mymra gzyrth el ebrth dy wawma lmpl athkhyb bh awrkha bprshth shwkha dkry dgbr hykma da kl lhwn grmw anwn amrth wkn dyna mdth enth
He who digs a pit may fall into it; and whoever breaks through a wall may be bitten by a snake.

אמר שלמה מלכא נביא גלי קדמי דמנשה בר חזקיהו עתיד למיחב ולמסגד לצלמיא דאבנין בגין כן אתמסר ביד מלכא דאתור ויכפתניה בזממין על דאבטיל פתגמי אוריתא דכתיבין בלוחי אבנין מן עיקריהון בגין כן יצטער בהון ורבשקה אחוהי עתיד למסגד לצלמיא דקיסין ולמשבק פתגמי אוריתא דאתיהיבן בארונא קיסי דשטי בגין כן עתיד לאתוקדא בנורא על יד מלאכא דיי:
dyy mlaka yd el bnwra lathwqda ethyd kn bgyn dshTy qysy barwna dathyhybn awrytha pthgmy wlmshbq dqysyn ltslmya lmsgd ethyd akhwhy wrbshqh bhwn ytsTer kn bgyn eyqryhwn mn abnyn blwkhy dkthybyn awrytha pthgmy dabTyl el bzmmyn wykpthnyh dathwr mlka byd athmsr kn bgyn dabnyn ltslmya wlmsgd lmykhb ethyd khzqyhw br dmnshh qdmy gly nbya mlka shlmh amr
Whoever carves out stones may be injured by them. Whoever splits wood may be endangered by it.

וכד יחובון עמא בית ישראל ויתעבדון שמיא תקיפין כפרזלא מלאחתא מטרא וההוא דרא לא צלו קדם יי בגין כן אתקלקל כל עלמא בכפנא וכדו תיבין ומתכנשין אוכלוסין ומתגברין על יצריהון וממנן ברזליהון למבעי רחמין קדם אלהי שמיא אית בהון רעוא על מותר אכשרות חוכמתהון:
khwkmthhwn akshrwth mwthr el rewa bhwn ayth shmya alhy qdm rkhmyn lmbey brzlyhwn wmmnn ytsryhwn el wmthgbryn awklwsyn wmthknshyn thybyn wkdw bkpna elma kl athqlql kn bgyn yy qdm tslw la dra whhwa mTra mlakhtha kprzla thqypyn shmya wythebdwn yshral byth ema ykhwbwn wkd
If the ax is blunt, and one doesn’t sharpen the edge, then he must use more strength; but skill brings success.

כד מתגרן חיוון קלן לטראקא ולנזקא בעלמא על חוביהון דבית ישראל דלא עסיקו בפתגמי אוריתא בחשאי ואף לית מותר לגבר אכיל קורצין דמשתעי לישן תליתי ארום באישתא דגהינם עתיד לאתוקדא:
lathwqda ethyd dghynm bayshtha arwm thlythy lyshn dmshthey qwrtsyn akyl lgbr mwthr lyth wap bkhshay awrytha bpthgmy esyqw dla yshral dbyth khwbyhwn el belma wlnzqa lTraqa qln khywwn mthgrn kd
If the snake bites before it is charmed, then is there no profit for the charmer’s tongue.

מלי פום גבר חכים דאשתכח בדרא כד אתי פורענותא לעלמא מצלי ומעדי ית פורענותא ומשכח רחמין קדם יי וספותיה דגברא שטיא מלין דנזיפותא ובגין כן כולי עלמא מתגמרין:
mthgmryn elma kwly kn wbgyn dnzypwtha mlyn shTya dgbra wspwthyh yy qdm rkhmyn wmshkkh pwrenwtha yth wmedy mtsly lelma pwrenwtha athy kd bdra dashthkkh khkym gbr pwm mly
The words of a wise man’s mouth are gracious; but a fool is swallowed by his own lips.

שירוי מלי פומיה שטותא וסוף מימר פומיה חולחלתא בישא:
bysha khwlkhltha pwmyh mymr wswp shTwtha pwmyh mly shyrwy
The beginning of the words of his mouth is foolishness; and the end of his talk is mischievous madness.

ושטיא מסגי פתגמין סריקין דלית בהון צרוך עד דלא ינדע אנש מה דעתיד למהוי ביומוהי ומה דעתיד למהוי בסייפיה מן יחוי ליה:
lyh ykhwy mn bsyypyh lmhwy dethyd wmh bywmwhy lmhwy dethyd mh ansh ynde dla ed tsrwk bhwn dlyth sryqyn pthgmyn msgy wshTya
A fool also multiplies words. Man doesn’t know what will be; and that which will be after him, who can tell him?

טרחות שטיא דטרח בשטותא איהו משלהי ליה על דלא אליף למיזל לקרתא דחכימיא שרי בגוה למתבע מניה אולפנא:
awlpna mnyh lmthbe bgwh shry dkhkymya lqrtha lmyzl alyp dla el lyh mshlhy ayhw bshTwtha dTrkh shTya Trkhwth
The labor of fools wearies every one of them; for he doesn’t know how to go to the city.

וי לך ארעא דישראל בזמן די ימלוך עלך ירבעם חיבא ויבטיל מינך תקרובתא דצחרא ורברבניך עד דלא יקרבון תמידא דצפרא ייכלון לחמא:
lkhma yyklwn dtspra thmyda yqrbwn dla ed wrbrbnyk dtskhra thqrwbtha mynk wybTyl khyba yrbem elk ymlwk dy bzmn dyshral area lk wy
Woe to you, land, when your king is a child, and your princes eat in the morning!

טב ליך ארעא דישראל בעדן די ימלוך עלך חזקיהו בר אחז די הוא מן ייחוס בית דוד מלכא דישראל די הוא גבר תקיף באוריתא ונפיק ידי חובת פקודיא ורברבניך בתר דמקרבין תמידא אכלין לחמא בזמן ארבע שעין מן עמל ידיהון בגבורת אוריתא ולא בחלשות ובסמיות עינא:
eyna wbsmywth bkhlshwth wla awrytha bgbwrth ydyhwn eml mn sheyn arbe bzmn lkhma aklyn thmyda dmqrbyn bthr wrbrbnyk pqwdya khwbth ydy wnpyq bawrytha thqyp gbr hwa dy dyshral mlka dwd byth yykhws mn hwa dy akhz br khzqyhw elk ymlwk dy bedn dyshral area lyk Tb
Happy are you, land, when your king is the son of nobles, and your princes eat in due season, for strength, and not for drunkenness!

בחלשות עיסק אוריתא ופקודיא מתמסכין גבר מבנין ובמכיכיות תפקידתא דאתפקדת אתתא למנטר מן ריחוק סואבות דמא ולא נטרא מתעבדא דותא בגו ביתה:
bythh bgw dwtha mthebda nTra wla dma swabwth rykhwq mn lmnTr aththa dathpqdth thpqydtha wbmkykywth mbnyn gbr mthmskyn wpqwdya awrytha eysq bkhlshwth
By slothfulness the roof sinks in; and through idleness of the hands the house leaks.

לחוכא עבדין צדיקיא לחים לפרנסא ענין כפינין וחמרא דמזגין לדצחין יהי להון לחדוא לעלמא דאתי וכסף פורקנהון יסהיד עליהון זכותא לעלמא דאתי באנפי כולא:
kwla banpy dathy lelma zkwtha elyhwn yshyd pwrqnhwn wksp dathy lelma lkhdwa lhwn yhy ldtskhyn dmzgyn wkhmra kpynyn enyn lprnsa lkhym tsdyqya ebdyn lkhwka
A feast is made for laughter, and wine makes the life glad; and money is the answer for all things.

אף במנדעך בחביוני לבך מלכא לא תלוט ובאדרון בית משכבך לא תלוט חכימא ארום רזיאל מלאכא מכריז בכל יומא מן שמיא על טורא דחורב ומהליך קליה בכל עלמא ואליהו כהנא רבא אזיל ופרח באויר שמיא כנשרא מרי גפין ומחוי מלין דמתעבדין בטמורתא לכל דיירי ארעא:
area dyyry lkl bTmwrtha dmthebdyn mlyn wmkhwy gpyn mry knshra shmya bawyr wprkh azyl rba khna walyhw elma bkl qlyh wmhlyk dkhwrb Twra el shmya mn ywma bkl mkryz mlaka rzyal arwm khkyma thlwT la mshkbk byth wbadrwn thlwT la mlka lbk bkhbywny bmndek ap
Don’t curse the king, no, not in your thoughts; and don’t curse the rich in your bedroom, for a bird of the sky may carry your voice, and that which has wings may tell the matter.
