23 verses
1
ארי ישתכח קטילא בארעא די יי אלהך יהב לך למירתה רמי בחקלא לא אתידע מן קטליה:
qTlyh mn athyde la bkhqla rmy lmyrthh lk yhb alhk yy dy barea qTyla yshthkkh ary
If someone is found slain in the land which Yahweh your God gives you to possess, lying in the field, and it isn’t known who has struck him,

ויפקון סביך ודיניך וימשחון לקרויא די סחרנות קטילא:
qTyla skhrnwth dy lqrwya wymshkhwn wdynyk sbyk wypqwn
then your elders and your judges shall come out, and they shall measure to the cities which are around him who is slain.

ותהי קרתא דקריבא לקטילא וידברון סבי קרתא ההיא עגלת תורי די לא אתפלח בה די לא נגידת בניר:
bnyr ngydth la dy bh athplkh la dy thwry eglth hhya qrtha sby wydbrwn lqTyla dqryba qrtha wthhy
It shall be that the elders of the city which is nearest to the slain man shall take a heifer of the herd, which hasn’t been worked with and which has not drawn in the yoke.

ויחתון סבי קרתא ההיא ית עגלתא לנחלא ביר די לא אתפלח ביה ולא יזדרע וינקפון תמן ית עגלתא בנחלא:
bnkhla egltha yth thmn wynqpwn yzdre wla byh athplkh la dy byr lnkhla egltha yth hhya qrtha sby wykhthwn
The elders of that city shall bring the heifer down to a valley with running water, which is neither plowed nor sown, and shall break the heifer’s neck there in the valley.

ויתקרבון כהניא בני לוי ארי בהון יתרעי יי אלהך לשמשותיה ולברכא בשמא דיי ועל מימרהון יהי כל דין וכל מכתש סגירו:
sgyrw mkthsh wkl dyn kl yhy mymrhwn wel dyy bshma wlbrka lshmshwthyh alhk yy ythrey bhwn ary lwy bny khnya wythqrbwn
The priests the sons of Levi shall come near, for them Yahweh your God has chosen to minister to him, and to bless in Yahweh’s name; and according to their word shall every controversy and every assault be decided.

וכל סבי קרתא ההיא דקריבין לקטילא יסחון ית ידיהון על עגלתא דנקפתא בנחלא:
bnkhla dnqptha egltha el ydyhwn yth yskhwn lqTyla dqrybyn hhya qrtha sby wkl
All the elders of that city which is nearest to the slain man shall wash their hands over the heifer whose neck was broken in the valley.

ויתיבון ויימרון ידנא לא אשדו ית דמא הדין ועיננא לא חזאה:
khzah la weynna hdyn dma yth ashdw la ydna wyymrwn wythybwn
They shall answer and say, “Our hands have not shed this blood, neither have our eyes seen it.

כהניא יימרון כפר לעמך ישראל די פרקתא יי ולא תתן חובת דם זכי בגו עמך ישראל ויתכפר להון על דמא:
dma el lhwn wythkpr yshral emk bgw zky dm khwbth ththn wla yy prqtha dy yshral lemk kpr yymrwn khnya
Forgive, Yahweh, your people Israel, whom you have redeemed, and don’t allow innocent blood among your people Israel.” The blood shall be forgiven them.

ואת תפלי אשדי דם זכי מבינך ארי תעבד דכשר קדם יי:
yy qdm dkshr thebd ary mbynk zky dm ashdy thply wath
So you shall put away the innocent blood from among you, when you shall do that which is right in Yahweh’s eyes.

ארי תפוק לאגחא קרבא על בעלי דבבך וימסרנון יי אלהך בידך ותשבי שביהון:
shbyhwn wthshby bydk alhk yy wymsrnwn dbbk bely el qrba lagkha thpwq ary
When you go out to battle against your enemies, and Yahweh your God delivers them into your hands and you carry them away captive,

ותחזי בשביה אתתא שפירת חזו ותתרעי בה ותסבה לך לאנתו:
lanthw lk wthsbh bh wththrey khzw shpyrth aththa bshbyh wthkhzy
and see among the captives a beautiful woman, and you are attracted to her, and desire to take her as your wife,
12
ותעלנה לגו ביתך ותגלח ית רישה ותרבי ית טופרנהא:
Twprnha yth wthrby ryshh yth wthglkh bythk lgw wthelnh
then you shall bring her home to your house. She shall shave her head and trim her nails.
13
ותעדי ית כסות שביה מנה ותיתב בביתך ותבכי ית אבוהא וית אמה ירח יומין ובתר כן תעול לותה ותבעלנה ותהי לך לאנתו:
lanthw lk wthhy wthbelnh lwthh thewl kn wbthr ywmyn yrkh amh wyth abwha yth wthbky bbythk wthythb mnh shbyh kswth yth wthedy
She shall take off the clothing of her captivity, and shall remain in your house, and bewail her father and her mother a full month. After that you shall go in to her and be her husband, and she shall be your wife.

ויהי אם לא תתרעי בה ותפטרנה לנפשה וזבנא לא תזבננה בכספא לא תתגר בה חלף די עניתה:
enythh dy khlp bh ththgr la bkspa thzbnnh la wzbna lnpshh wthpTrnh bh ththrey la am wyhy
It shall be, if you have no delight in her, then you shall let her go where she desires; but you shall not sell her at all for money. You shall not deal with her as a slave, because you have humbled her.

ארי תהוין לגבר תרתין נשין חדא רחמתא וחדא שניאתא וילידן ליה בנין רחמתא ושניאתא ויהי ברא בוכרא לשניאתא:
lshnyatha bwkra bra wyhy wshnyatha rkhmtha bnyn lyh wylydn shnyatha wkhda rkhmtha khda nshyn thrthyn lgbr thhwyn ary
If a man has two wives, the one beloved and the other hated, and they have borne him children, both the beloved and the hated, and if the firstborn son is hers who was hated,

ויהי ביומא דיחסן לבנוהי ית די יהי ליה לית ליה רשו לבכרא ית בר רחמתא על אפי בר שניאתא בוכרא:
bwkra shnyatha br apy el rkhmtha br yth lbkra rshw lyh lyth lyh yhy dy yth lbnwhy dykhsn bywma wyhy
then it shall be, in the day that he causes his sons to inherit that which he has, that he may not give the son of the beloved the rights of the firstborn before the son of the hated, who is the firstborn;

ארי ית בוכרא בר שניאתא יפרש למתן ליה תרתין חלקין בכל די ישתכח ליה ארי הוא ריש תקפיה ליה חזיא בכרותא:
bkrwtha khzya lyh thqpyh rysh hwa ary lyh yshthkkh dy bkl khlqyn thrthyn lyh lmthn yprsh shnyatha br bwkra yth ary
but he shall acknowledge the firstborn, the son of the hated, by giving him a double portion of all that he has; for he is the beginning of his strength. The right of the firstborn is his.

ארי יהי לגבר בר סטי ומרי ליתוהי מקבל למימר אבוהי ולמימר אמיה ומלפן יתיה ולא יקבל מנהון:
mnhwn yqbl wla ythyh wmlpn amyh wlmymr abwhy lmymr mqbl lythwhy wmry sTy br lgbr yhy ary
If a man has a stubborn and rebellious son who will not obey the voice of his father or the voice of his mother, and though they chasten him, will not listen to them,

ויחדון ביה אבוהי ואמיה ויפקון יתיה לקדם סבי קרתיה ולתרע בית דין אתריה:
athryh dyn byth wlthre qrthyh sby lqdm ythyh wypqwn wamyh abwhy byh wykhdwn
then his father and his mother shall take hold of him and bring him out to the elders of his city and to the gate of his place.

ויימרון לסבי קרתיה בננא דין סטי ומרי ליתוהי מקבל למימרנא זלל בסר וסבי חמר:
khmr wsby bsr zll lmymrna mqbl lythwhy wmry sTy dyn bnna qrthyh lsby wyymrwn
They shall tell the elders of his city, “This our son is stubborn and rebellious. He will not obey our voice. He is a glutton and a drunkard.”

וירגמניה כל גברי קרתיה באבניא וימות ותפלי עבד דביש מבינך וכל ישראל ישמעון וידחלון:
wydkhlwn yshmewn yshral wkl mbynk dbysh ebd wthply wymwth babnya qrthyh gbry kl wyrgmnyh
All the men of his city shall stone him to death with stones. So you shall remove the evil from among you. All Israel shall hear, and fear.

וארי יהי בגבר חובת דין דקטול ויתקטל ותצלוב יתיה על צליבא:
tslyba el ythyh wthtslwb wythqTl dqTwl dyn khwbth bgbr yhy wary
If a man has committed a sin worthy of death, and he is put to death, and you hang him on a tree,
23
לא תבית נבלתיה על צליבא ארי מקבר תקברניה ביומא ההוא ארי על דחב קדם יי אצטלב ולא תסאב ית ארעך די יי אלהך יהב לך אחסנא:
akhsna lk yhb alhk yy dy arek yth thsab wla atsTlb yy qdm dkhb el ary hhwa bywma thqbrnyh mqbr ary tslyba el nblthyh thbyth la
his body shall not remain all night on the tree, but you shall surely bury him the same day; for he who is hanged is accursed of God. Don’t defile your land which Yahweh your God gives you for an inheritance.
