ܒܫܢܬ ܬܪܬܝܢ ܕܡܠܟܘܬܗ ܕܢܒܘܟܕܢܨܪ ܚܠ̣ܡ ܢܒܘܟܕܢܨܪ ܚܠܡܐ ܘܐܫܬܢܝܬ ܪܘܚܗ ܘܫܢܬܗ ܗܘܬ ܥܠܘܗܝ
bshnth thrthyn dmlkwthh dnbwkdntsr khlm nbwkdntsr khlm' w'shthnyth rwkhh wshnthh hwth elwhy
In the second year of the reign of Nebuchadnezzar, Nebuchadnezzar dreamed dreams; and his spirit was troubled, and his sleep went from him.

ܘܐܡ̣ܪ ܡ̇ܠܟܐ ܠܡܩܪܐ ܠܚ̇ܪ̈ܫܐ ܘܠܐܫ̈ܘܦܐ ܘܠܡܓܘܫ̈ܐ ܘܠܟ̈ܠܕܝܐ ܠܡܚܘܝܘ ܠܡ̇ܠܟܐ ܚܠܡܗ ܘܐܬܘ ܘܩܡܘ ܩܕܡ ܡ̇ܠܟܐ
w'mr mlk' lmqr' lkhrsh' wl'shwp' wlmgwsh' wlkldy' lmkhwyw lmlk' khlmh w'thw wqmw qdm mlk'
Then the king commanded that the magicians, the enchanters, the sorcerers, and the Chaldeans be called to tell the king his dreams. So they came in and stood before the king.

ܘܐܡ̣ܪ ܠܗܘܢ ܡܠܟܐ ܚܠܡܐ ܚܙܝܬ ܘܐܫܬܢܝܬ ܪܘܚܝ ܠܡܕܥܗ ܠܚܠܡܐ
w'mr lhwn mlk' khlm' khzyth w'shthnyth rwkhy lmdeh lkhlm'
The king said to them, “I have dreamed a dream, and my spirit is troubled to know the dream.”

וידברו הכשדים למלך ארמית מלכא לעלמין חיי אמר חלמא לעבדך ופשרא נחוא
wydbrw hkshdym lmlk armyth mlka lelmyn khyy amr khlma lebdk wpshra nkhwa
Then the Chaldeans spoke to the king in the Syrian language, “O king, live forever! Tell your servants the dream, and we will show the interpretation.”

ענה מלכא ואמר לכשדאי מלתה מני אזדא הן לא תהודעונני חלמא ופשרה הדמין תתעבדון ובתיכון נולי יתשמון
enh mlka wamr lkshday mlthh mny azda hn la thhwdewnny khlma wpshrh hdmyn ththebdwn wbthykwn nwly ythshmwn
The king answered the Chaldeans, “The thing has gone from me. If you don’t make known to me the dream and its interpretation, you will be cut in pieces, and your houses will be made a dunghill.

והן חלמא ופשרה תהחון מתנן ונבזבה ויקר שגיא תקבלון מן קדמי להן חלמא ופשרה החוני
whn khlma wpshrh thhkhwn mthnn wnbzbh wyqr shgya thqblwn mn qdmy lhn khlma wpshrh hkhwny
But if you show the dream and its interpretation, you will receive from me gifts, rewards, and great honor. Therefore show me the dream and its interpretation.”

ענו תנינות ואמרין מלכא חלמא יאמר לעבדוהי ופשרה נהחוה
enw thnynwth wamryn mlka khlma yamr lebdwhy wpshrh nhkhwh
They answered the second time and said, “Let the king tell his servants the dream, and we will show the interpretation.”

ענה מלכא ואמר מן יציב ידע אנה די עדנא אנתון זבנין כל קבל די חזיתון די אזדא מני מלתא
enh mlka wamr mn ytsyb yde anh dy edna anthwn zbnyn kl qbl dy khzythwn dy azda mny mltha
The king answered, “I know of a certainty that you are trying to gain time, because you see the thing has gone from me.

די הן חלמא לא תהודענני חדה היא דתכון ומלה כדבה ושחיתה הזדמנתון למאמר קדמי עד די עדנא ישתנא להן חלמא אמרו לי ואנדע די פשרה תהחונני
dy hn khlma la thhwdenny khdh hya dthkwn wmlh kdbh wshkhythh hzdmnthwn lmamr qdmy ed dy edna yshthna lhn khlma amrw ly wande dy pshrh thhkhwnny
But if you don’t make known to me the dream, there is but one law for you; for you have prepared lying and corrupt words to speak before me, until the situation changes. Therefore tell me the dream, and I will know that you can show me its interpretation.”

ענו כשדאי קדם מלכא ואמרין לא איתי אנש על יבשתא די מלת מלכא יוכל להחויה כל קבל די כל מלך רב ושליט מלה כדנה לא שאל לכל חרטם ואשף וכשדי
enw kshday qdm mlka wamryn la aythy ansh el ybshtha dy mlth mlka ywkl lhkhwyh kl qbl dy kl mlk rb wshlyT mlh kdnh la shal lkl khrTm washp wkshdy
The Chaldeans answered the king and said, “There is not a man on the earth who can show the king’s matter, because no king, lord, or ruler has asked such a thing of any magician, enchanter, or Chaldean.

ומלתא די מלכה שאל יקירה ואחרן לא איתי די יחונה קדם מלכא להן אלהין די מדרהון עם בשרא לא איתוהי
wmltha dy mlkh shal yqyrh wakhrn la aythy dy ykhwnh qdm mlka lhn alhyn dy mdrhwn em bshra la aythwhy
It is a rare thing that the king requires, and there is no other who can show it before the king except the gods, whose dwelling is not with flesh.”

כל קבל דנה מלכא בנס וקצף שגיא ואמר להובדה לכל חכימי בבל
kl qbl dnh mlka bns wqtsp shgya wamr lhwbdh lkl khkymy bbl
Because of this, the king was angry and very furious, and commanded that all the wise men of Babylon be destroyed.

ודתא נפקת וחכימיא מתקטלין ובעו דניאל וחברוהי להתקטלה {ס}
wdtha npqth wkhkymya mthqTlyn wbew dnyal wkhbrwhy lhthqTlh s
So the decree went out, and the wise men were to be slain. They sought Daniel and his companions to be slain.

באדין דניאל התיב עטא וטעם לאריוך רב טבחיא די מלכא די נפק לקטלה לחכימי בבל
badyn dnyal hthyb eTa wTem larywk rb Tbkhya dy mlka dy npq lqTlh lkhkymy bbl
Then Daniel returned answer with counsel and prudence to Arioch the captain of the king’s guard, who had gone out to kill the wise men of Babylon.

ענה ואמר לאריוך שליטא די מלכא על מה דתא מהחצפה מן קדם מלכא אדין מלתא הודע אריוך לדניאל
enh wamr larywk shlyTa dy mlka el mh dtha mhkhtsph mn qdm mlka adyn mltha hwde arywk ldnyal
He answered Arioch the king’s captain, “Why is the decree so urgent from the king?” Then Arioch made the thing known to Daniel.

ודניאל על ובעה מן מלכא די זמן ינתן לה ופשרא להחויה למלכא {ס}
wdnyal el wbeh mn mlka dy zmn ynthn lh wpshra lhkhwyh lmlka s
Daniel went in, and desired of the king that he would appoint him a time, and he would show the king the interpretation.

אדין דניאל לביתה אזל ולחנניה מישאל ועזריה חברוהי מלתא הודע
adyn dnyal lbythh azl wlkhnnyh myshal wezryh khbrwhy mltha hwde
Then Daniel went to his house and made the thing known to Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah, his companions:

ורחמין למבעא מן קדם אלה שמיא על רזא דנה די לא יהובדון דניאל וחברוהי עם שאר חכימי בבל
wrkhmyn lmbea mn qdm alh shmya el rza dnh dy la yhwbdwn dnyal wkhbrwhy em shar khkymy bbl
that they would desire mercies of the God of heaven concerning this secret, that Daniel and his companions would not perish with the rest of the wise men of Babylon.

אדין לדניאל בחזוא די ליליא רזא גלי אדין דניאל ברך לאלה שמיא
adyn ldnyal bkhzwa dy lylya rza gly adyn dnyal brk lalh shmya
Then the secret was revealed to Daniel in a vision of the night. Then Daniel blessed the God of heaven.

ענה דניאל ואמר להוא שמה די אלהא מברך מן עלמא ועד עלמא די חכמתא וגבורתא די לה היא
enh dnyal wamr lhwa shmh dy alha mbrk mn elma wed elma dy khkmtha wgbwrtha dy lh hya
Daniel answered, “Blessed be the name of God forever and ever; for wisdom and might are his.

והוא מהשנא עדניא וזמניא מהעדה מלכין ומהקים מלכין יהב חכמתא לחכימין ומנדעא לידעי בינה
whwa mhshna ednya wzmnya mhedh mlkyn wmhqym mlkyn yhb khkmtha lkhkymyn wmndea lydey bynh
He changes the times and the seasons. He removes kings and sets up kings. He gives wisdom to the wise, and knowledge to those who have understanding.
22
הוא גלא עמיקתא ומסתרתא ידע מה בחשוכא ונהורא עמה שרא
hwa gla emyqtha wmsthrtha yde mh bkhshwka wnhwra emh shra
He reveals the deep and secret things. He knows what is in the darkness, and the light dwells with him.
23
לך ׀ אלה אבהתי מהודא ומשבח אנה די חכמתא וגבורתא יהבת לי וכען הודעתני די בעינא מנך די מלת מלכא הודעתנא
lk alh abhthy mhwda wmshbkh anh dy khkmtha wgbwrtha yhbth ly wken hwdethny dy beyna mnk dy mlth mlka hwdethna
I thank you and praise you, O God of my fathers, who have given me wisdom and might, and have now made known to me what we desired of you; for you have made known to us the king’s matter.”

כל קבל דנה דניאל על על אריוך די מני מלכא להובדה לחכימי בבל אזל ׀ וכן אמר לה לחכימי בבל אל תהובד העלני קדם מלכא ופשרא למלכא אחוא {ס}
kl qbl dnh dnyal el el arywk dy mny mlka lhwbdh lkhkymy bbl azl wkn amr lh lkhkymy bbl al thhwbd helny qdm mlka wpshra lmlka akhwa s
Therefore Daniel went in to Arioch, whom the king had appointed to destroy the wise men of Babylon. He went and said this to him: “Don’t destroy the wise men of Babylon. Bring me in before the king, and I will show to the king the interpretation.”

אדין אריוך בהתבהלה הנעל לדניאל קדם מלכא וכן אמר לה די השכחת גבר מן בני גלותא די יהוד די פשרא למלכא יהודע
adyn arywk bhthbhlh hnel ldnyal qdm mlka wkn amr lh dy hshkkhth gbr mn bny glwtha dy yhwd dy pshra lmlka yhwde
Then Arioch brought in Daniel before the king in haste, and said this to him: “I have found a man of the children of the captivity of Judah who will make known to the king the interpretation.”

ענה מלכא ואמר לדניאל די שמה בלטשאצר האיתך כהל להודעתני חלמא די חזית ופשרה
enh mlka wamr ldnyal dy shmh blTshatsr haythk khl lhwdethny khlma dy khzyth wpshrh
The king answered Daniel, whose name was Belteshazzar, “Are you able to make known to me the dream which I have seen, and its interpretation?”

ענה דניאל קדם מלכא ואמר רזא די מלכא שאל לא חכימין אשפין חרטמין גזרין יכלין להחויה למלכא
enh dnyal qdm mlka wamr rza dy mlka shal la khkymyn ashpyn khrTmyn gzryn yklyn lhkhwyh lmlka
Daniel answered before the king, and said, “The secret which the king has demanded can’t be shown to the king by wise men, enchanters, magicians, or soothsayers;

ברם איתי אלה בשמיא גלא רזין והודע למלכא נבוכדנצר מה די להוא באחרית יומיא חלמך וחזוי ראשך על משכבך דנה הוא {ס}
brm aythy alh bshmya gla rzyn whwde lmlka nbwkdntsr mh dy lhwa bakhryth ywmya khlmk wkhzwy rashk el mshkbk dnh hwa s
but there is a God in heaven who reveals secrets, and he has made known to King Nebuchadnezzar what will be in the latter days. Your dream and the visions of your head on your bed are these:

אנת מלכא רעיונך על משכבך סלקו מה די להוא אחרי דנה וגלא רזיא הודעך מה די להוא
anth mlka reywnk el mshkbk slqw mh dy lhwa akhry dnh wgla rzya hwdek mh dy lhwa
“As for you, O king, your thoughts came on your bed, what should happen hereafter; and he who reveals secrets has made known to you what will happen.
30
ואנה לא בחכמה די איתי בי מן כל חייא רזא דנה גלי לי להן על דברת די פשרא למלכא יהודעון ורעיוני לבבך תנדע {ס}
wanh la bkhkmh dy aythy by mn kl khyya rza dnh gly ly lhn el dbrth dy pshra lmlka yhwdewn wreywny lbbk thnde s
But as for me, this secret is not revealed to me for any wisdom that I have more than any living, but to the intent that the interpretation may be made known to the king, and that you may know the thoughts of your heart.

אנת מלכא חזה הוית ואלו צלם חד שגיא צלמא דכן רב וזיוה יתיר קאם לקבלך ורוה דחיל
anth mlka khzh hwyth walw tslm khd shgya tslma dkn rb wzywh ythyr qam lqblk wrwh dkhyl
“You, O king, saw, and behold, a great image. This image, which was mighty, and whose brightness was excellent, stood before you; and its appearance was terrifying.

הוא צלמא ראשה די דהב טב חדוהי ודרעוהי די כסף מעוהי וירכתה די נחש
hwa tslma rashh dy dhb Tb khdwhy wdrewhy dy ksp mewhy wyrkthh dy nkhsh
As for this image, its head was of fine gold, its chest and its arms of silver, its belly and its thighs of bronze,

שקוהי די פרזל רגלוהי מנהין די פרזל ומנהין די חסף
shqwhy dy przl rglwhy mnhyn dy przl wmnhyn dy khsp
its legs of iron, its feet part of iron and part of clay.

חזה הוית עד די התגזרת אבן די לא בידין ומחת לצלמא על רגלוהי די פרזלא וחספא והדקת המון
khzh hwyth ed dy hthgzrth abn dy la bydyn wmkhth ltslma el rglwhy dy przla wkhspa whdqth hmwn
You saw until a stone was cut out without hands, which struck the image on its feet that were of iron and clay, and broke them in pieces.

באדין דקו כחדה פרזלא חספא נחשא כספא ודהבא והוו כעור מן אדרי קיט ונשא המון רוחא וכל אתר לא השתכח להון ואבנא ׀ די מחת לצלמא הות לטור רב ומלאת כל ארעא
badyn dqw kkhdh przla khspa nkhsha kspa wdhba whww kewr mn adry qyT wnsha hmwn rwkha wkl athr la hshthkkh lhwn wabna dy mkhth ltslma hwth lTwr rb wmlath kl area
Then the iron, the clay, the bronze, the silver, and the gold were broken in pieces together, and became like the chaff of the summer threshing floors. The wind carried them away, so that no place was found for them. The stone that struck the image became a great mountain and filled the whole earth.

דנה חלמא ופשרה נאמר קדם מלכא

“This is the dream; and we will tell its interpretation before the king.
37
אנת מלכא מלך מלכיא די אלה שמיא מלכותא חסנא ותקפא ויקרא יהב לך
anth mlka mlk mlkya dy alh shmya mlkwtha khsna wthqpa wyqra yhb lk
You, O king, are king of kings, to whom the God of heaven has given the kingdom, the power, the strength, and the glory.
38
ובכל די דירין בני אנשא חיות ברא ועוף שמיא יהב בידך והשלטך בכלהון אנת הוא ראשה די דהבא
wbkl dy dyryn bny ansha khywth bra wewp shmya yhb bydk whshlTk bklhwn anth hwa rashh dy dhba
Wherever the children of men dwell, he has given the animals of the field and the birds of the sky into your hand, and has made you rule over them all. You are the head of gold.
39
ובתרך תקום מלכו אחרי ארע מנך ומלכו תליתאה אחרי די נחשא די תשלט בכל ארעא

“After you, another kingdom will arise that is inferior to you; and another third kingdom of bronze, which will rule over all the earth.

ומלכו רביעאה תהוא תקיפה כפרזלא כל קבל די פרזלא מהדק וחשל כלא וכפרזלא די מרעע כל אלן תדק ותרע
wmlkw rbyeah thhwa thqyph kprzla kl qbl dy przla mhdq wkhshl kla wkprzla dy mree kl aln thdq wthre
The fourth kingdom will be strong as iron, because iron breaks in pieces and subdues all things; and as iron that crushes all these, it will break in pieces and crush.

ודי חזיתה רגליא ואצבעתא מנהן חסף די פחר ומנהין פרזל מלכו פליגה תהוה ומן נצבתא די פרזלא להוא בה כל קבל די חזיתה פרזלא מערב בחסף טינא
wdy khzythh rglya watsbetha mnhn khsp dy pkhr wmnhyn przl mlkw plygh thhwh wmn ntsbtha dy przla lhwa bh kl qbl dy khzythh przla merb bkhsp Tyna
Whereas you saw the feet and toes, part of potters’ clay and part of iron, it will be a divided kingdom; but there will be in it of the strength of the iron, because you saw the iron mixed with miry clay.
42
ואצבעת רגליא מנהין פרזל ומנהין חסף מן קצת מלכותא תהוה תקיפה ומנה תהוא תבירה
watsbeth rglya mnhyn przl wmnhyn khsp mn qtsth mlkwtha thhwh thqyph wmnh thhwa thbyrh
As the toes of the feet were part of iron, and part of clay, so the kingdom will be partly strong and partly brittle.
43
ודי חזית פרזלא מערב בחסף טינא מתערבין להון בזרע אנשא ולא להון דבקין דנה עם דנה הא כדי פרזלא לא מתערב עם חספא
wdy khzyth przla merb bkhsp Tyna mtherbyn lhwn bzre ansha wla lhwn dbqyn dnh em dnh ha kdy przla la mtherb em khspa
Whereas you saw the iron mixed with miry clay, they will mingle themselves with the seed of men; but they won’t cling to one another, even as iron does not mix with clay.
44
וביומיהון די מלכיא אנון יקים אלה שמיא מלכו די לעלמין לא תתחבל ומלכותה לעם אחרן לא תשתבק תדק ותסיף כל אלין מלכותא והיא תקום לעלמיא
wbywmyhwn dy mlkya anwn yqym alh shmya mlkw dy lelmyn la ththkhbl wmlkwthh lem akhrn la thshthbq thdq wthsyp kl alyn mlkwtha whya thqwm lelmya
“In the days of those kings the God of heaven will set up a kingdom which will never be destroyed, nor will its sovereignty be left to another people; but it will break in pieces and consume all these kingdoms, and it will stand forever.

כל קבל די חזית די מטורא אתגזרת אבן די לא בידין והדקת פרזלא נחשא חספא כספא ודהבא אלה רב הודע למלכא מה די להוא אחרי דנה ויציב חלמא ומהימן פשרה {ס}
kl qbl dy khzyth dy mTwra athgzrth abn dy la bydyn whdqth przla nkhsha khspa kspa wdhba alh rb hwde lmlka mh dy lhwa akhry dnh wytsyb khlma wmhymn pshrh s
Because you saw that a stone was cut out of the mountain without hands, and that it broke in pieces the iron, the bronze, the clay, the silver, and the gold, the great God has made known to the king what will happen hereafter. The dream is certain, and its interpretation sure.”

באדין מלכא נבוכדנצר נפל על אנפוהי ולדניאל סגד ומנחה וניחחין אמר לנסכה לה
badyn mlka nbwkdntsr npl el anpwhy wldnyal sgd wmnkhh wnykhkhyn amr lnskh lh
Then King Nebuchadnezzar fell on his face, worshiped Daniel, and commanded that they should offer an offering and sweet odors to him.

ענה מלכא לדניאל ואמר מן קשט די אלהכון הוא אלה אלהין ומרא מלכין וגלה רזין די יכלת למגלא רזא דנה
enh mlka ldnyal wamr mn qshT dy alhkwn hwa alh alhyn wmra mlkyn wglh rzyn dy yklth lmgla rza dnh
The king answered to Daniel, and said, “Of a truth your God is the God of gods, and the Lord of kings, and a revealer of secrets, since you have been able to reveal this secret.”

אדין מלכא לדניאל רבי ומתנן רברבן שגיאן יהב לה והשלטה על כל מדינת בבל ורב סגנין על כל חכימי בבל
adyn mlka ldnyal rby wmthnn rbrbn shgyan yhb lh whshlTh el kl mdynth bbl wrb sgnyn el kl khkymy bbl
Then the king made Daniel great and gave him many great gifts, and made him rule over the whole province of Babylon and to be chief governor over all the wise men of Babylon.

ודניאל בעא מן מלכא ומני על עבידתא די מדינת בבל לשדרך מישך ועבד נגו ודניאל בתרע מלכא {פ}
wdnyal bea mn mlka wmny el ebydtha dy mdynth bbl lshdrk myshk webd ngw wdnyal bthre mlka p
Daniel requested of the king, and he appointed Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego over the affairs of the province of Babylon, but Daniel was in the king’s gate.
