ܒܫܢܬ ܬܪܬܝܢ ܕܡܠܟܘܬܗ ܕܢܒܘܟܕܢܨܪ ܚܠ̣ܡ ܢܒܘܟܕܢܨܪ ܚܠܡܐ ܘܐܫܬܢܝܬ ܪܘܚܗ ܘܫܢܬܗ ܗܘܬ ܥܠܘܗܝ
elwhy hwth wshnthh rwkhh w'shthnyth khlm' nbwkdntsr khlm dnbwkdntsr dmlkwthh thrthyn bshnth
In the second year of the reign of Nebuchadnezzar, Nebuchadnezzar dreamed dreams; and his spirit was troubled, and his sleep went from him.

ܘܐܡ̣ܪ ܡ̇ܠܟܐ ܠܡܩܪܐ ܠܚ̇ܪ̈ܫܐ ܘܠܐܫ̈ܘܦܐ ܘܠܡܓܘܫ̈ܐ ܘܠܟ̈ܠܕܝܐ ܠܡܚܘܝܘ ܠܡ̇ܠܟܐ ܚܠܡܗ ܘܐܬܘ ܘܩܡܘ ܩܕܡ ܡ̇ܠܟܐ
mlk' qdm wqmw w'thw khlmh lmlk' lmkhwyw wlkldy' wlmgwsh' wl'shwp' lkhrsh' lmqr' mlk' w'mr
Then the king commanded that the magicians, the enchanters, the sorcerers, and the Chaldeans be called to tell the king his dreams. So they came in and stood before the king.

ܘܐܡ̣ܪ ܠܗܘܢ ܡܠܟܐ ܚܠܡܐ ܚܙܝܬ ܘܐܫܬܢܝܬ ܪܘܚܝ ܠܡܕܥܗ ܠܚܠܡܐ
lkhlm' lmdeh rwkhy w'shthnyth khzyth khlm' mlk' lhwn w'mr
The king said to them, “I have dreamed a dream, and my spirit is troubled to know the dream.”

וידברו הכשדים למלך ארמית מלכא לעלמין חיי אמר חלמא לעבדך ופשרא נחוא
nkhwa wpshra lebdk khlma amr khyy lelmyn mlka armyth lmlk hkshdym wydbrw
Then the Chaldeans spoke to the king in the Syrian language, “O king, live forever! Tell your servants the dream, and we will show the interpretation.”

ענה מלכא ואמר לכשדאי מלתה מני אזדא הן לא תהודעונני חלמא ופשרה הדמין תתעבדון ובתיכון נולי יתשמון
ythshmwn nwly wbthykwn ththebdwn hdmyn wpshrh khlma thhwdewnny la hn azda mny mlthh lkshday wamr mlka enh
The king answered the Chaldeans, “The thing has gone from me. If you don’t make known to me the dream and its interpretation, you will be cut in pieces, and your houses will be made a dunghill.

והן חלמא ופשרה תהחון מתנן ונבזבה ויקר שגיא תקבלון מן קדמי להן חלמא ופשרה החוני
hkhwny wpshrh khlma lhn qdmy mn thqblwn shgya wyqr wnbzbh mthnn thhkhwn wpshrh khlma whn
But if you show the dream and its interpretation, you will receive from me gifts, rewards, and great honor. Therefore show me the dream and its interpretation.”

ענו תנינות ואמרין מלכא חלמא יאמר לעבדוהי ופשרה נהחוה
nhkhwh wpshrh lebdwhy yamr khlma mlka wamryn thnynwth enw
They answered the second time and said, “Let the king tell his servants the dream, and we will show the interpretation.”

ענה מלכא ואמר מן יציב ידע אנה די עדנא אנתון זבנין כל קבל די חזיתון די אזדא מני מלתא
mltha mny azda dy khzythwn dy qbl kl zbnyn anthwn edna dy anh yde ytsyb mn wamr mlka enh
The king answered, “I know of a certainty that you are trying to gain time, because you see the thing has gone from me.

די הן חלמא לא תהודענני חדה היא דתכון ומלה כדבה ושחיתה הזדמנתון למאמר קדמי עד די עדנא ישתנא להן חלמא אמרו לי ואנדע די פשרה תהחונני
thhkhwnny pshrh dy wande ly amrw khlma lhn yshthna edna dy ed qdmy lmamr hzdmnthwn wshkhythh kdbh wmlh dthkwn hya khdh thhwdenny la khlma hn dy
But if you don’t make known to me the dream, there is but one law for you; for you have prepared lying and corrupt words to speak before me, until the situation changes. Therefore tell me the dream, and I will know that you can show me its interpretation.”

ענו כשדאי קדם מלכא ואמרין לא איתי אנש על יבשתא די מלת מלכא יוכל להחויה כל קבל די כל מלך רב ושליט מלה כדנה לא שאל לכל חרטם ואשף וכשדי
wkshdy washp khrTm lkl shal la kdnh mlh wshlyT rb mlk kl dy qbl kl lhkhwyh ywkl mlka mlth dy ybshtha el ansh aythy la wamryn mlka qdm kshday enw
The Chaldeans answered the king and said, “There is not a man on the earth who can show the king’s matter, because no king, lord, or ruler has asked such a thing of any magician, enchanter, or Chaldean.

ומלתא די מלכה שאל יקירה ואחרן לא איתי די יחונה קדם מלכא להן אלהין די מדרהון עם בשרא לא איתוהי
aythwhy la bshra em mdrhwn dy alhyn lhn mlka qdm ykhwnh dy aythy la wakhrn yqyrh shal mlkh dy wmltha
It is a rare thing that the king requires, and there is no other who can show it before the king except the gods, whose dwelling is not with flesh.”

כל קבל דנה מלכא בנס וקצף שגיא ואמר להובדה לכל חכימי בבל
bbl khkymy lkl lhwbdh wamr shgya wqtsp bns mlka dnh qbl kl
Because of this, the king was angry and very furious, and commanded that all the wise men of Babylon be destroyed.

ודתא נפקת וחכימיא מתקטלין ובעו דניאל וחברוהי להתקטלה {ס}
s lhthqTlh wkhbrwhy dnyal wbew mthqTlyn wkhkymya npqth wdtha
So the decree went out, and the wise men were to be slain. They sought Daniel and his companions to be slain.

באדין דניאל התיב עטא וטעם לאריוך רב טבחיא די מלכא די נפק לקטלה לחכימי בבל
bbl lkhkymy lqTlh npq dy mlka dy Tbkhya rb larywk wTem eTa hthyb dnyal badyn
Then Daniel returned answer with counsel and prudence to Arioch the captain of the king’s guard, who had gone out to kill the wise men of Babylon.

ענה ואמר לאריוך שליטא די מלכא על מה דתא מהחצפה מן קדם מלכא אדין מלתא הודע אריוך לדניאל
ldnyal arywk hwde mltha adyn mlka qdm mn mhkhtsph dtha mh el mlka dy shlyTa larywk wamr enh
He answered Arioch the king’s captain, “Why is the decree so urgent from the king?” Then Arioch made the thing known to Daniel.

ודניאל על ובעה מן מלכא די זמן ינתן לה ופשרא להחויה למלכא {ס}
s lmlka lhkhwyh wpshra lh ynthn zmn dy mlka mn wbeh el wdnyal
Daniel went in, and desired of the king that he would appoint him a time, and he would show the king the interpretation.

אדין דניאל לביתה אזל ולחנניה מישאל ועזריה חברוהי מלתא הודע
hwde mltha khbrwhy wezryh myshal wlkhnnyh azl lbythh dnyal adyn
Then Daniel went to his house and made the thing known to Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah, his companions:

ורחמין למבעא מן קדם אלה שמיא על רזא דנה די לא יהובדון דניאל וחברוהי עם שאר חכימי בבל
bbl khkymy shar em wkhbrwhy dnyal yhwbdwn la dy dnh rza el shmya alh qdm mn lmbea wrkhmyn
that they would desire mercies of the God of heaven concerning this secret, that Daniel and his companions would not perish with the rest of the wise men of Babylon.

אדין לדניאל בחזוא די ליליא רזא גלי אדין דניאל ברך לאלה שמיא
shmya lalh brk dnyal adyn gly rza lylya dy bkhzwa ldnyal adyn
Then the secret was revealed to Daniel in a vision of the night. Then Daniel blessed the God of heaven.

ענה דניאל ואמר להוא שמה די אלהא מברך מן עלמא ועד עלמא די חכמתא וגבורתא די לה היא
hya lh dy wgbwrtha khkmtha dy elma wed elma mn mbrk alha dy shmh lhwa wamr dnyal enh
Daniel answered, “Blessed be the name of God forever and ever; for wisdom and might are his.

והוא מהשנא עדניא וזמניא מהעדה מלכין ומהקים מלכין יהב חכמתא לחכימין ומנדעא לידעי בינה
bynh lydey wmndea lkhkymyn khkmtha yhb mlkyn wmhqym mlkyn mhedh wzmnya ednya mhshna whwa
He changes the times and the seasons. He removes kings and sets up kings. He gives wisdom to the wise, and knowledge to those who have understanding.
22
הוא גלא עמיקתא ומסתרתא ידע מה בחשוכא ונהורא עמה שרא
shra emh wnhwra bkhshwka mh yde wmsthrtha emyqtha gla hwa
He reveals the deep and secret things. He knows what is in the darkness, and the light dwells with him.
23
לך ׀ אלה אבהתי מהודא ומשבח אנה די חכמתא וגבורתא יהבת לי וכען הודעתני די בעינא מנך די מלת מלכא הודעתנא
hwdethna mlka mlth dy mnk beyna dy hwdethny wken ly yhbth wgbwrtha khkmtha dy anh wmshbkh mhwda abhthy alh lk
I thank you and praise you, O God of my fathers, who have given me wisdom and might, and have now made known to me what we desired of you; for you have made known to us the king’s matter.”

כל קבל דנה דניאל על על אריוך די מני מלכא להובדה לחכימי בבל אזל ׀ וכן אמר לה לחכימי בבל אל תהובד העלני קדם מלכא ופשרא למלכא אחוא {ס}
s akhwa lmlka wpshra mlka qdm helny thhwbd al bbl lkhkymy lh amr wkn azl bbl lkhkymy lhwbdh mlka mny dy arywk el el dnyal dnh qbl kl
Therefore Daniel went in to Arioch, whom the king had appointed to destroy the wise men of Babylon. He went and said this to him: “Don’t destroy the wise men of Babylon. Bring me in before the king, and I will show to the king the interpretation.”

אדין אריוך בהתבהלה הנעל לדניאל קדם מלכא וכן אמר לה די השכחת גבר מן בני גלותא די יהוד די פשרא למלכא יהודע
yhwde lmlka pshra dy yhwd dy glwtha bny mn gbr hshkkhth dy lh amr wkn mlka qdm ldnyal hnel bhthbhlh arywk adyn
Then Arioch brought in Daniel before the king in haste, and said this to him: “I have found a man of the children of the captivity of Judah who will make known to the king the interpretation.”

ענה מלכא ואמר לדניאל די שמה בלטשאצר האיתך כהל להודעתני חלמא די חזית ופשרה
wpshrh khzyth dy khlma lhwdethny khl haythk blTshatsr shmh dy ldnyal wamr mlka enh
The king answered Daniel, whose name was Belteshazzar, “Are you able to make known to me the dream which I have seen, and its interpretation?”

ענה דניאל קדם מלכא ואמר רזא די מלכא שאל לא חכימין אשפין חרטמין גזרין יכלין להחויה למלכא
lmlka lhkhwyh yklyn gzryn khrTmyn ashpyn khkymyn la shal mlka dy rza wamr mlka qdm dnyal enh
Daniel answered before the king, and said, “The secret which the king has demanded can’t be shown to the king by wise men, enchanters, magicians, or soothsayers;

ברם איתי אלה בשמיא גלא רזין והודע למלכא נבוכדנצר מה די להוא באחרית יומיא חלמך וחזוי ראשך על משכבך דנה הוא {ס}
s hwa dnh mshkbk el rashk wkhzwy khlmk ywmya bakhryth lhwa dy mh nbwkdntsr lmlka whwde rzyn gla bshmya alh aythy brm
but there is a God in heaven who reveals secrets, and he has made known to King Nebuchadnezzar what will be in the latter days. Your dream and the visions of your head on your bed are these:

אנת מלכא רעיונך על משכבך סלקו מה די להוא אחרי דנה וגלא רזיא הודעך מה די להוא
lhwa dy mh hwdek rzya wgla dnh akhry lhwa dy mh slqw mshkbk el reywnk mlka anth
“As for you, O king, your thoughts came on your bed, what should happen hereafter; and he who reveals secrets has made known to you what will happen.
30
ואנה לא בחכמה די איתי בי מן כל חייא רזא דנה גלי לי להן על דברת די פשרא למלכא יהודעון ורעיוני לבבך תנדע {ס}
s thnde lbbk wreywny yhwdewn lmlka pshra dy dbrth el lhn ly gly dnh rza khyya kl mn by aythy dy bkhkmh la wanh
But as for me, this secret is not revealed to me for any wisdom that I have more than any living, but to the intent that the interpretation may be made known to the king, and that you may know the thoughts of your heart.
31
אנת מלכא חזה הוית ואלו צלם חד שגיא צלמא דכן רב וזיוה יתיר קאם לקבלך ורוה דחיל
dkhyl wrwh lqblk qam ythyr wzywh rb dkn tslma shgya khd tslm walw hwyth khzh mlka anth
“You, O king, saw, and behold, a great image. This image, which was mighty, and whose brightness was excellent, stood before you; and its appearance was terrifying.

הוא צלמא ראשה די דהב טב חדוהי ודרעוהי די כסף מעוהי וירכתה די נחש
nkhsh dy wyrkthh mewhy ksp dy wdrewhy khdwhy Tb dhb dy rashh tslma hwa
As for this image, its head was of fine gold, its chest and its arms of silver, its belly and its thighs of bronze,
33
שקוהי די פרזל רגלוהי מנהין די פרזל ומנהין די חסף
khsp dy wmnhyn przl dy mnhyn rglwhy przl dy shqwhy
its legs of iron, its feet part of iron and part of clay.

חזה הוית עד די התגזרת אבן די לא בידין ומחת לצלמא על רגלוהי די פרזלא וחספא והדקת המון
hmwn whdqth wkhspa przla dy rglwhy el ltslma wmkhth bydyn la dy abn hthgzrth dy ed hwyth khzh
You saw until a stone was cut out without hands, which struck the image on its feet that were of iron and clay, and broke them in pieces.

באדין דקו כחדה פרזלא חספא נחשא כספא ודהבא והוו כעור מן אדרי קיט ונשא המון רוחא וכל אתר לא השתכח להון ואבנא ׀ די מחת לצלמא הות לטור רב ומלאת כל ארעא
area kl wmlath rb lTwr hwth ltslma mkhth dy wabna lhwn hshthkkh la athr wkl rwkha hmwn wnsha qyT adry mn kewr whww wdhba kspa nkhsha khspa przla kkhdh dqw badyn
Then the iron, the clay, the bronze, the silver, and the gold were broken in pieces together, and became like the chaff of the summer threshing floors. The wind carried them away, so that no place was found for them. The stone that struck the image became a great mountain and filled the whole earth.

דנה חלמא ופשרה נאמר קדם מלכא
mlka qdm namr wpshrh khlma dnh
“This is the dream; and we will tell its interpretation before the king.
37
אנת מלכא מלך מלכיא די אלה שמיא מלכותא חסנא ותקפא ויקרא יהב לך
lk yhb wyqra wthqpa khsna mlkwtha shmya alh dy mlkya mlk mlka anth
You, O king, are king of kings, to whom the God of heaven has given the kingdom, the power, the strength, and the glory.
38
ובכל די דירין בני אנשא חיות ברא ועוף שמיא יהב בידך והשלטך בכלהון אנת הוא ראשה די דהבא
dhba dy rashh hwa anth bklhwn whshlTk bydk yhb shmya wewp bra khywth ansha bny dyryn dy wbkl
Wherever the children of men dwell, he has given the animals of the field and the birds of the sky into your hand, and has made you rule over them all. You are the head of gold.
39
ובתרך תקום מלכו אחרי ארע מנך ומלכו תליתאה אחרי די נחשא די תשלט בכל ארעא
area bkl thshlT dy nkhsha dy akhry thlythah wmlkw mnk are akhry mlkw thqwm wbthrk
“After you, another kingdom will arise that is inferior to you; and another third kingdom of bronze, which will rule over all the earth.

ומלכו רביעאה תהוא תקיפה כפרזלא כל קבל די פרזלא מהדק וחשל כלא וכפרזלא די מרעע כל אלן תדק ותרע
wthre thdq aln kl mree dy wkprzla kla wkhshl mhdq przla dy qbl kl kprzla thqyph thhwa rbyeah wmlkw
The fourth kingdom will be strong as iron, because iron breaks in pieces and subdues all things; and as iron that crushes all these, it will break in pieces and crush.

ודי חזיתה רגליא ואצבעתא מנהן חסף די פחר ומנהין פרזל מלכו פליגה תהוה ומן נצבתא די פרזלא להוא בה כל קבל די חזיתה פרזלא מערב בחסף טינא
Tyna bkhsp merb przla khzythh dy qbl kl bh lhwa przla dy ntsbtha wmn thhwh plygh mlkw przl wmnhyn pkhr dy khsp mnhn watsbetha rglya khzythh wdy
Whereas you saw the feet and toes, part of potters’ clay and part of iron, it will be a divided kingdom; but there will be in it of the strength of the iron, because you saw the iron mixed with miry clay.
42
ואצבעת רגליא מנהין פרזל ומנהין חסף מן קצת מלכותא תהוה תקיפה ומנה תהוא תבירה
thbyrh thhwa wmnh thqyph thhwh mlkwtha qtsth mn khsp wmnhyn przl mnhyn rglya watsbeth
As the toes of the feet were part of iron, and part of clay, so the kingdom will be partly strong and partly brittle.
43
ודי חזית פרזלא מערב בחסף טינא מתערבין להון בזרע אנשא ולא להון דבקין דנה עם דנה הא כדי פרזלא לא מתערב עם חספא
khspa em mtherb la przla kdy ha dnh em dnh dbqyn lhwn wla ansha bzre lhwn mtherbyn Tyna bkhsp merb przla khzyth wdy
Whereas you saw the iron mixed with miry clay, they will mingle themselves with the seed of men; but they won’t cling to one another, even as iron does not mix with clay.
44
וביומיהון די מלכיא אנון יקים אלה שמיא מלכו די לעלמין לא תתחבל ומלכותה לעם אחרן לא תשתבק תדק ותסיף כל אלין מלכותא והיא תקום לעלמיא
lelmya thqwm whya mlkwtha alyn kl wthsyp thdq thshthbq la akhrn lem wmlkwthh ththkhbl la lelmyn dy mlkw shmya alh yqym anwn mlkya dy wbywmyhwn
“In the days of those kings the God of heaven will set up a kingdom which will never be destroyed, nor will its sovereignty be left to another people; but it will break in pieces and consume all these kingdoms, and it will stand forever.
45
כל קבל די חזית די מטורא אתגזרת אבן די לא בידין והדקת פרזלא נחשא חספא כספא ודהבא אלה רב הודע למלכא מה די להוא אחרי דנה ויציב חלמא ומהימן פשרה {ס}
s pshrh wmhymn khlma wytsyb dnh akhry lhwa dy mh lmlka hwde rb alh wdhba kspa khspa nkhsha przla whdqth bydyn la dy abn athgzrth mTwra dy khzyth dy qbl kl
Because you saw that a stone was cut out of the mountain without hands, and that it broke in pieces the iron, the bronze, the clay, the silver, and the gold, the great God has made known to the king what will happen hereafter. The dream is certain, and its interpretation sure.”

באדין מלכא נבוכדנצר נפל על אנפוהי ולדניאל סגד ומנחה וניחחין אמר לנסכה לה
lh lnskh amr wnykhkhyn wmnkhh sgd wldnyal anpwhy el npl nbwkdntsr mlka badyn
Then King Nebuchadnezzar fell on his face, worshiped Daniel, and commanded that they should offer an offering and sweet odors to him.

ענה מלכא לדניאל ואמר מן קשט די אלהכון הוא אלה אלהין ומרא מלכין וגלה רזין די יכלת למגלא רזא דנה
dnh rza lmgla yklth dy rzyn wglh mlkyn wmra alhyn alh hwa alhkwn dy qshT mn wamr ldnyal mlka enh
The king answered to Daniel, and said, “Of a truth your God is the God of gods, and the Lord of kings, and a revealer of secrets, since you have been able to reveal this secret.”

אדין מלכא לדניאל רבי ומתנן רברבן שגיאן יהב לה והשלטה על כל מדינת בבל ורב סגנין על כל חכימי בבל
bbl khkymy kl el sgnyn wrb bbl mdynth kl el whshlTh lh yhb shgyan rbrbn wmthnn rby ldnyal mlka adyn
Then the king made Daniel great and gave him many great gifts, and made him rule over the whole province of Babylon and to be chief governor over all the wise men of Babylon.

ודניאל בעא מן מלכא ומני על עבידתא די מדינת בבל לשדרך מישך ועבד נגו ודניאל בתרע מלכא {פ}
p mlka bthre wdnyal ngw webd myshk lshdrk bbl mdynth dy ebydtha el wmny mlka mn bea wdnyal
Daniel requested of the king, and he appointed Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego over the affairs of the province of Babylon, but Daniel was in the king’s gate.
