קבילו ית פתגמא הדין די אנא נטיל עליכון איליא בית ישראל:
yshral byth aylya elykwn nTyl ana dy hdyn pthgma yth qbylw
Listen to this word which I take up for a lamentation over you, O house of Israel:

נפלת לא תוסיף למיקם שתא הדא כנשתא דישראל אתרטישת על ארעא לית דיקימינה:
dyqymynh lyth area el athrTyshth dyshral knshtha hda shtha lmyqm thwsyp la nplth
“The virgin of Israel has fallen; She shall rise no more. She is cast down on her land; there is no one to raise her up.”

ארי כדנן אמר יי אלהים קרתא דיפקון מנה אלפא ישתארון בה מאה ודיפקון מנה מאה ישתארון בה עד עסרא לבית ישראל:
yshral lbyth esra ed bh yshtharwn mah mnh wdypqwn mah bh yshtharwn alpa mnh dypqwn qrtha alhym yy amr kdnn ary
For the Lord Yahweh says: “The city that went out a thousand shall have a hundred left, and that which went out one hundred shall have ten left to the house of Israel.”

ארי כדנן אמר יי לבית ישראל תבעו דחלתי ואתקימו:
wathqymw dkhlthy thbew yshral lbyth yy amr kdnn ary
For Yahweh says to the house of Israel: “Seek me, and you will live;

ולא תתבעון למיהך לבית אל ולגלגלא לא תיתון ולבאר שבע לא תעברון ארי די בגלגלא מגלא יגלון ודפלחין לטעותא בבית אל יהון ללמא:
llma yhwn al bbyth lTewtha wdplkhyn yglwn mgla bglgla dy ary thebrwn la shbe wlbar thythwn la wlglgla al lbyth lmyhk ththbewn wla
but don’t seek Bethel, nor enter into Gilgal, and don’t pass to Beersheba; for Gilgal shall surely go into captivity, and Bethel shall come to nothing.

תבעו ית דחלתא דיי ואתקימו דלמא ידלק כאשתא רוגזיה בבית יוסף וישיציה ולא יהי חיס בחובין דהויתון פלחין לטעותא בבית אל:
al bbyth lTewtha plkhyn dhwythwn bkhwbyn khys yhy wla wyshytsyh ywsp bbyth rwgzyh kashtha ydlq dlma wathqymw dyy dkhltha yth thbew
Seek Yahweh, and you will live, lest he break out like fire in the house of Joseph, and it devour, and there be no one to quench it in Bethel.

דהפכין לגידה דינא וזכותא לארעא רטשו:
rTshw larea wzkwtha dyna lgydh dhpkyn
You who turn justice to wormwood, and cast down righteousness to the earth!

שבקו למדחל מן קדם דעבד כימה וכסילא והפך לנהור קבל וימם ולילי מקביל דאמר לכנשא משרין סגיאן כמי ימא ומבדר להון על אפי ארעא יי שמיה:
shmyh yy area apy el lhwn wmbdr yma kmy sgyan mshryn lknsha damr mqbyl wlyly wymm qbl lnhwr whpk wksyla kymh debd qdm mn lmdkhl shbqw
Seek him who made the Pleiades and Orion, and turns the shadow of death into the morning, and makes the day dark with night; who calls for the waters of the sea, and pours them out on the surface of the earth, Yahweh is his name,

דמגבר חלשין על תקיפין ובזיזין על כרכי תקיפין משליט:
mshlyT thqypyn krky el wbzyzyn thqypyn el khlshyn dmgbr
who brings sudden destruction on the strong, so that destruction comes on the fortress.

סנן לדמוכח להון בשערי בתי דינא פתגמי אוריתא ולדמליל כיונתא מעקמין:
meqmyn kywntha wldmlyl awrytha pthgmy dyna bthy bshery lhwn ldmwkkh snn
They hate him who reproves in the gate, and they abhor him who speaks blamelessly.

בכן חלף במבזכון מסכניא ומנסכון חשיכיא בתי גזית בניתון ולא תיתבון בהון כרמי חמדתא נצבתון ולא תשתון ית חמרהון:
khmrhwn yth thshthwn wla ntsbthwn khmdtha krmy bhwn thythbwn wla bnythwn gzyth bthy khshykya wmnskwn msknya bmbzkwn khlp bkn
Therefore, because you trample on the poor and take taxes from him of wheat, you have built houses of cut stone, but you will not dwell in them. You have planted pleasant vineyards, but you shall not drink their wine.

ארי גלי קדמי דסגיאין מירדיכון ותקיפן חובתיכון מעיקין ליה לזכאה בדיל לקבלא ממון דשקר ודין חשיכיא בבית כנישתיהון מסטן:
msTn knyshthyhwn bbyth khshykya wdyn dshqr mmwn lqbla bdyl lzkah lyh meyqyn khwbthykwn wthqypn myrdykwn dsgyayn qdmy gly ary
For I know how many are your offenses, and how great are your sins— you who afflict the just, who take a bribe, and who turn away the needy in the courts.

בכן מלפיא בעדנא ההיא מן קדם רשיעיא שתיקו ארי עדן ביש הוא:
hwa bysh edn ary shthyqw rshyeya qdm mn hhya bedna mlpya bkn
Therefore a prudent person keeps silent in such a time, for it is an evil time.

תבעו לאוטבא ולא לאבאשא בדיל דתתקימון ויהי כען מימרא דיי אלהים צבאות בסעדכון כמא דאמרתון:
damrthwn kma bsedkwn tsbawth alhym dyy mymra ken wyhy dththqymwn bdyl labasha wla lawTba thbew
Seek good, and not evil, that you may live; and so Yahweh, the God of Armies, will be with you, as you say.

סגו לאבאשא וריחמו לאיטבא ואתקינו בבית כנישתכון דינא מאים יתרחם מן קדם יי אלהא צבאות על שארא דיוסף:
dywsp shara el tsbawth alha yy qdm mn ythrkhm maym dyna knyshthkwn bbyth wathqynw layTba wrykhmw labasha sgw
Hate evil, love good, and establish justice in the courts. It may be that Yahweh, the God of Armies, will be gracious to the remnant of Joseph.”

בכן כדנן אמר יי אלהי צבאות יי בכל רחוביא מספדא ובכל שוקיא יימרון וי וי ויערעון אכר לאבל ועבד מספדא לדירעי אליא:
alya ldyrey mspda webd labl akr wyerewn wy wy yymrwn shwqya wbkl mspda rkhwbya bkl yy tsbawth alhy yy amr kdnn bkn
Therefore Yahweh, the God of Armies, the Lord, says: “Wailing will be in all the wide ways. They will say in all the streets, ‘Alas! Alas!’ They will call the farmer to mourning, and those who are skillful in lamentation to wailing.

ובכל כרמיא מספדא ארי אתגלי למעבד פורענות דין בגויך אמר יי:
yy amr bgwyk dyn pwrenwth lmebd athgly ary mspda krmya wbkl
In all vineyards there will be wailing, for I will pass through the middle of you,” says Yahweh.
18
וי למחמדין ליומא דעתיד למיתי מן קדם יי למא דנן לכון יומא דעתיד למיתי מן קדם יי הוא חשוך ולא נהור:
nhwr wla khshwk hwa yy qdm mn lmythy dethyd ywma lkwn dnn lma yy qdm mn lmythy dethyd lywma lmkhmdyn wy
“Woe to you who desire the day of Yahweh! Why do you long for the day of Yahweh? It is darkness, and not light.

כמא די יערוק גברא מן קדם אריא ויערעניה דובא וייעול לביתא ויסמוך ידיה על כתלא ויכתניה חויא:
khwya wykthnyh kthla el ydyh wysmwk lbytha wyyewl dwba wyerenyh arya qdm mn gbra yerwq dy kma
As if a man fled from a lion, and a bear met him; or he went into the house and leaned his hand on the wall, and a snake bit him.

הלא חשוך יומא דעתיד למיתי מן קדם יי ולא נהור וקבל ולא זהור ליה:
lyh zhwr wla wqbl nhwr wla yy qdm mn lmythy dethyd ywma khshwk hla
Won’t the day of Yahweh be darkness, and not light? Even very dark, and no brightness in it?

סגיתי רחיקת חגיכון ולא אקבל ברעוא קורבן כנשתכון:
knshthkwn qwrbn brewa aqbl wla khgykwn rkhyqth sgythy
I hate, I despise your feasts, and I can’t stand your solemn assemblies.

ארי אם תסקון קדמי עלון וקורבניכון לא לרעוא ונכסת קודשיכון לא יתקבלון קדמי:
qdmy ythqblwn la qwdshykwn wnksth lrewa la wqwrbnykwn elwn qdmy thsqwn am ary
Yes, though you offer me your burnt offerings and meal offerings, I will not accept them; neither will I regard the peace offerings of your fat animals.

אעדי מן קדמי אתרגושת זמרך ונגון כנרך לא אשמע:
ashme la knrk wngwn zmrk athrgwshth qdmy mn aedy
Take away from me the noise of your songs! I will not listen to the music of your harps.

ויתגלי כמיא דינא וזכותא כנחל מגבר:
mgbr knkhl wzkwtha dyna kmya wythgly
But let justice roll on like rivers, and righteousness like a mighty stream.
25
הנכסת קודשין וקורבנין קרבתון קדמי במדברא ארבעין שנין בית ישראל:
yshral byth shnyn arbeyn bmdbra qdmy qrbthwn wqwrbnyn qwdshyn hnksth
“Did you bring to me sacrifices and offerings in the wilderness forty years, house of Israel?

ונטלתון ית סכות פת כומרכון וית כיון צלמיכון כוכב טעותכון די עבדתון לכון:
lkwn ebdthwn dy Tewthkwn kwkb tslmykwn kywn wyth kwmrkwn pth skwth yth wnTlthwn
You also carried the tent of your king and the shrine of your images, the star of your god, which you made for yourselves.
