ܘܫܐܠܗ ܪܒ ܟܗܢܐ ܕܐܢ ܗܘ ܕܗܠܝܢ ܗܟܢܐ ܐܢܝܢ
'nyn hkn' dhlyn hw d'n khn' rb wsh'lh
The high priest said, “Are these things so?”

ܗܘ ܕܝܢ ܐܡܪ ܓܒܪܐ ܐܚܝܢ ܘܐܒܗܬܢ ܫܡܥܘ ܐܠܗܐ ܕܬܫܒܘܚܬܐ ܐܬܚܙܝ ܠܐܒܘܢ ܐܒܪܗܡ ܟܕ ܐܝܬܘܗܝ ܗܘܐ ܒܝܬ-ܢܗܪܝܢ ܥܕ ܠܐ ܢܐܬܐ ܢܥܡܪ ܒܚܪܢ
bkhrn nemr n'th' l' ed byth-nhryn hw' 'ythwhy kd 'brhm l'bwn 'thkhzy dthshbwkhth' 'lh' shmew w'bhthn 'khyn gbr' 'mr dyn hw
He said, “Brothers and fathers, listen. The God of glory appeared to our father Abraham, when he was in Mesopotamia, before he lived in Haran,

ܘܐܡܪ ܗܘܐ ܠܗ ܕܦܘܩ ܡܢ ܐܪܥܟ ܘܡܢ ܠܘܬ ܒܢܝ ܛܘܗܡܟ ܘܬܐ ܠܐܪܥܐ ܐܝܕܐ ܕܐܚܘܝܟ
d'khwyk 'yd' l're' wth' Twhmk bny lwth wmn 'rek mn dpwq lh hw' w'mr
and said to him, ‘Get out of your land, and from your relatives, and come into a land which I will show you.’

ܘܗܝܕܝܢ ܢܦܩ ܐܒܪܗܡ ܡܢ ܐܪܥܐ ܕܟܠܕܝܐ ܘܐܬܐ ܥܡܪ ܒܚܪܢ ܘܡܢ ܬܡܢ ܟܕ ܡܝܬ ܐܒܘܗܝ ܫܢܝܗ ܐܠܗܐ ܠܐܪܥܐ ܗܕܐ ܕܒܗ ܥܡܪܝܢ ܐܢܬܘܢ ܝܘܡܢܐ
ywmn' 'nthwn emryn dbh hd' l're' 'lh' shnyh 'bwhy myth kd thmn wmn bkhrn emr w'th' dkldy' 're' mn 'brhm npq whydyn
Then he came out of the land of the Chaldaeans, and lived in Haran. From there, when his father was dead, God moved him into this land, where you are now living.

ܘܠܐ ܝܗܒ ܠܗ ܝܪܬܘܬܐ ܒܗ ܐܦ ܠܐ ܕܘܪܟܬܐ ܕܪܓܠܐ ܘܐܫܬܘܕܝ ܗܘܐ ܕܢܬܠܝܗ ܠܗ ܐܝܟ ܕܠܡܐܪܬܗ ܠܗ ܘܠܙܪܥܗ ܟܕ ܠܝܬ ܗܘܐ ܠܗ ܒܪܐ
br' lh hw' lyth kd wlzreh lh dlm'rthh 'yk lh dnthlyh hw' w'shthwdy drgl' dwrkth' l' 'p bh yrthwth' lh yhb wl'
He gave him no inheritance in it, no, not so much as to set his foot on. He promised that he would give it to him for a possession, and to his offspring after him, when he still had no child.

ܘܡܠܠ ܗܘܐ ܥܡܗ ܐܠܗܐ ܟܕ ܐܡܪ ܠܗ ܕܢܗܘܐ ܙܪܥܟ ܬܘܬܒܐ ܒܐܪܥܐ ܢܘܟܪܝܬܐ ܘܢܫܥܒܕܘܢܝܗܝ ܘܢܒܐܫܘܢ ܠܗ ܐܪܒܥܡܐܐ ܫܢܝܢ
shnyn 'rbem'' lh wnb'shwn wnshebdwnyhy nwkryth' b're' thwthb' zrek dnhw' lh 'mr kd 'lh' emh hw' wmll
God spoke in this way: that his offspring would live as aliens in a strange land, and that they would be enslaved and mistreated for four hundred years.

ܘܠܥܡܐ ܕܢܦܠܚܘܢ ܥܒܕܘܬܐ ܐܕܘܢܝܘܗܝ ܐܢܐ ܐܡܪ ܐܠܗܐ ܘܡܢ ܒܬܪ ܗܠܝܢ ܢܦܩܘܢ ܘܢܦܠܚܘܢ ܠܝ ܒܐܬܪܐ ܗܢܐ
hn' b'thr' ly wnplkhwn npqwn hlyn bthr wmn 'lh' 'mr 'n' 'dwnywhy ebdwth' dnplkhwn wlem'
‘I will judge the nation to which they will be in bondage,’ said God, ‘and after that will they come out, and serve me in this place.’

ܘܝܗܒ ܠܗ ܕܝܬܩܐ ܕܓܙܘܪܬܐ ܘܗܝܕܝܢ ܐܘܠܕ ܠܐܝܣܚܩ ܘܓܙܪܗ ܒܝܘܡܐ ܬܡܝܢܝܐ ܘܐܝܣܚܩ ܐܘܠܕ ܠܝܥܩܘܒ ܘܝܥܩܘܒ ܐܘܠܕ ܠܬܪܥܣܪ ܐܒܗܬܢ
'bhthn lthresr 'wld wyeqwb lyeqwb 'wld w'yskhq thmyny' bywm' wgzrh l'yskhq 'wld whydyn dgzwrth' dythq' lh wyhb
He gave him the covenant of circumcision. So Abraham became the father of Isaac, and circumcised him the eighth day. Isaac became the father of Jacob, and Jacob became the father of the twelve patriarchs.

ܘܗܢܘܢ ܐܒܗܬܢ ܛܢܘ ܒܝܘܣܦ ܘܙܒܢܘܗܝ ܠܡܨܪܝܢ ܘܐܠܗܐ ܥܡܗ ܗܘܐ

“The patriarchs, moved with jealousy against Joseph, sold him into Egypt. God was with him,

ܘܦܪܩܗ ܗܘܐ ܡܢ ܟܠܗܘܢ ܐܘܠܨܢܘܗܝ ܘܝܗܒ ܠܗ ܛܝܒܘܬܐ ܘܚܟܡܬܐ ܩܕܡ ܦܪܥܘܢ ܡܠܟܐ ܕܡܨܪܝܢ ܘܐܩܝܡܗ ܪܫܐ ܥܠ ܡܨܪܝܢ ܘܥܠ ܒܝܬܗ ܟܠܗ
klh bythh wel mtsryn el rsh' w'qymh dmtsryn mlk' prewn qdm wkhkmth' Tybwth' lh wyhb 'wltsnwhy klhwn mn hw' wprqh
and delivered him out of all his afflictions, and gave him favor and wisdom before Pharaoh, king of Egypt. He made him governor over Egypt and all his house.

ܘܗܘܐ ܟܦܢܐ ܘܐܘܠܨܢܐ ܪܒܐ ܒܟܠܗ ܡܨܪܝܢ ܘܒܐܪܥܐ ܕܟܢܥܢ ܘܠܝܬ ܗܘܐ ܠܗܘܢ ܠܡܣܒܥ ܠܐܒܗܬܢ
l'bhthn lmsbe lhwn hw' wlyth dknen wb're' mtsryn bklh rb' w'wltsn' kpn' whw'
Now a famine came over all the land of Egypt and Canaan, and great affliction. Our fathers found no food.

ܘܟܕ ܫܡܥ ܝܥܩܘܒ ܕܐܝܬ ܥܒܘܪܐ ܒܡܨܪܝܢ ܫܕܪ ܗܘܐ ܠܐܒܗܬܢ ܠܘܩܕܡ
lwqdm l'bhthn hw' shdr bmtsryn ebwr' d'yth yeqwb shme wkd
But when Jacob heard that there was grain in Egypt, he sent out our fathers the first time.

ܘܟܕ ܐܙܠܘ ܕܬܪܬܝܢ ܙܒܢܝܢ ܐܘܕܥ ܝܘܣܦ ܢܦܫܗ ܠܐܚܘܗܝ ܘܐܬܝܕܥ ܠܦܪܥܘܢ ܛܘܗܡܗ ܕܝܘܣܦ
dywsp Twhmh lprewn w'thyde l'khwhy npshh ywsp 'wde zbnyn dthrthyn 'zlw wkd
On the second time Joseph was made known to his brothers, and Joseph’s race was revealed to Pharaoh.

ܘܫܕܪ ܗܘܐ ܝܘܣܦ ܘܐܝܬܝܗ ܠܐܒܘܗܝ ܝܥܩܘܒ ܘܠܟܠܗ ܛܘܗܡܗ ܘܗܘܝܢ ܗܘܘ ܒܡܢܝܢܐ ܫܒܥܝܢ ܘܚܡܫ ܢܦܫܢ
npshn wkhmsh shbeyn bmnyn' hww whwyn Twhmh wlklh yeqwb l'bwhy w'ythyh ywsp hw' wshdr
Joseph sent, and summoned Jacob, his father, and all his relatives, seventy-five souls.

ܘܢܚܬ ܝܥܩܘܒ ܠܡܨܪܝܢ ܘܡܝܬ ܬܡܢ ܗܘ ܘܐܒܗܬܢ
w'bhthn hw thmn wmyth lmtsryn yeqwb wnkhth
Jacob went down into Egypt, and he died, himself and our fathers,

ܘܐܫܬܢܝ ܠܫܟܝܡ ܘܐܬܬܣܝܡ ܒܩܒܪܐ ܕܙܒܢ ܗܘܐ ܐܒܪܗܡ ܒܟܣܦܐ ܡܢ ܒܢܝ ܚܡܘܪ
khmwr bny mn bksp' 'brhm hw' dzbn bqbr' w'ththsym lshkym w'shthny
and they were brought back to Shechem, and laid in the tomb that Abraham bought for a price in silver from the children of Hamor of Shechem.

ܘܟܕ ܡܛܝ ܗܘܐ ܙܒܢܐ ܕܡܕܡ ܕܐܫܬܘܕܝ ܗܘܐ ܒܡܘܡܬܐ ܐܠܗܐ ܠܐܒܪܗܡ ܣܓܝ ܗܘܐ ܥܡܐ ܘܬܩܦ ܒܡܨܪܝܢ
bmtsryn wthqp em' hw' sgy l'brhm 'lh' bmwmth' hw' d'shthwdy dmdm zbn' hw' mTy wkd
“But as the time of the promise came close which God had sworn to Abraham, the people grew and multiplied in Egypt,

ܥܕܡܐ ܕܩܡ ܡܠܟܐ ܐܚܪܢܐ ܥܠ ܡܨܪܝܢ ܐܝܢܐ ܕܠܐ ܝܕܥ ܗܘܐ ܠܗ ܠܝܘܣܦ
lywsp lh hw' yde dl' 'yn' mtsryn el 'khrn' mlk' dqm edm'
until there arose a different king, who didn’t know Joseph.

ܘܐܨܛܢܥ ܥܠ ܛܘܗܡܢ ܘܐܒܐܫ ܠܐܒܗܬܢ ܘܦܩܕ ܕܢܗܘܘܢ ܡܫܬܕܝܢ ܝܠܘܕܝܗܘܢ ܕܠܐ ܢܚܘܢ
nkhwn dl' ylwdyhwn mshthdyn dnhwwn wpqd l'bhthn w'b'sh Twhmn el w'tsTne
The same took advantage of our race, and mistreated our fathers, and forced them to throw out their babies, so that they wouldn’t stay alive.

ܒܗ ܒܙܒܢܐ ܗܘ ܐܬܝܠܕ ܡܘܫܐ ܘܪܚܝܡ ܗܘܐ ܠܐܠܗܐ ܘܐܬܪܒܝ ܝܪܚܐ ܬܠܬܐ ܒܝܬ ܐܒܘܗܝ
'bwhy byth thlth' yrkh' w'thrby l'lh' hw' wrkhym mwsh' 'thyld hw bzbn' bh
At that time Moses was born, and was exceedingly handsome. He was nourished three months in his father’s house.

ܘܟܕ ܐܫܬܕܝ ܡܢ ܐܡܗ ܐܫܟܚܬܗ ܒܪܬ ܦܪܥܘܢ ܘܪܒܝܬܗ ܠܗ ܠܒܪܐ
lbr' lh wrbythh prewn brth 'shkkhthh 'mh mn 'shthdy wkd
When he was thrown out, Pharaoh’s daughter took him up, and reared him as her own son.

ܘܐܬܪܕܝ ܡܘܫܐ ܒܟܠܗ ܚܟܡܬܐ ܕܡܨܪܝܐ ܘܥܬܝܕ ܗܘܐ ܒܡܠܘܗܝ ܘܐܦ ܒܥܒܕܘܗܝ
bebdwhy w'p bmlwhy hw' wethyd dmtsry' khkmth' bklh mwsh' w'thrdy
Moses was instructed in all the wisdom of the Egyptians. He was mighty in his words and works.

ܘܟܕ ܗܘܐ ܒܪ ܐܪܒܥܝܢ ܫܢܝܢ ܣܠܩ ܗܘܐ ܥܠ ܠܒܗ ܕܢܣܥܘܪ ܠܐܚܘܗܝ ܒܢܝ ܐܝܣܪܝܠ
'ysryl bny l'khwhy dnsewr lbh el hw' slq shnyn 'rbeyn br hw' wkd
But when he was forty years old, it came into his heart to visit his brothers, the children of Israel.

ܘܚܙܐ ܠܚܕ ܡܢ ܒܢܝ ܫܪܒܬܗ ܕܡܬܕܒܪ ܒܩܛܝܪܐ ܘܬܒܥܗ ܘܥܒܕ ܠܗ ܕܝܢܐ ܘܩܛܠܗ ܠܡܨܪܝܐ ܗܘ ܕܡܣܟܠ ܗܘܐ ܒܗ
bh hw' dmskl hw lmtsry' wqTlh dyn' lh webd wthbeh bqTyr' dmthdbr shrbthh bny mn lkhd wkhz'
Seeing one of them suffer wrong, he defended him, and avenged him who was oppressed, striking the Egyptian.

ܘܣܒܪ ܕܡܣܬܟܠܝܢ ܐܚܘܗܝ ܒܢܝ ܐܝܣܪܝܠ ܕܐܠܗܐ ܒܐܝܕܗ ܝܗܒ ܠܗܘܢ ܦܘܪܩܢܐ ܘܠܐ ܐܣܬܟܠܘ
'sthklw wl' pwrqn' lhwn yhb b'ydh d'lh' 'ysryl bny 'khwhy dmsthklyn wsbr
He supposed that his brothers understood that God, by his hand, was giving them deliverance; but they didn’t understand.

ܘܠܝܘܡܐ ܐܚܪܢܐ ܐܬܚܙܝ ܠܗܘܢ ܟܕ ܢܨܝܢ ܗܢܘܢ ܚܕ ܥܡ ܚܕ ܘܡܦܝܣ ܗܘܐ ܠܗܘܢ ܕܢܫܬܝܢܘܢ ܟܕ ܐܡܪ ܓܒܪܐ ܐܚܐ ܐܢܬܘܢ ܡܛܠ ܡܢܐ ܡܣܟܠܝܢ ܐܢܬܘܢ ܚܕ ܒܚܕ

“The day following, he appeared to them as they fought, and urged them to be at peace again, saying, ‘Sirs, you are brothers. Why do you wrong one another?’

ܗܘ ܕܝܢ ܕܡܣܟܠ ܗܘܐ ܒܚܒܪܗ ܕܚܩܗ ܡܢ ܠܘܬܗ ܘܐܡܪ ܠܗ ܡܢܘ ܐܩܝܡܟ ܥܠܝܢ ܪܫܐ ܘܕܝܢܐ
wdyn' rsh' elyn 'qymk mnw lh w'mr lwthh mn dkhqh bkhbrh hw' dmskl dyn hw
But he who did his neighbor wrong pushed him away, saying, ‘Who made you a ruler and a judge over us?

ܕܠܡܐ ܠܡܩܛܠܢܝ ܒܥܐ ܐܢܬ ܐܝܟ ܕܩܛܠܬ ܐܬܡܠܝ ܠܡܨܪܝܐ
lmtsry' 'thmly dqTlth 'yk 'nth be' lmqTlny dlm'
Do you want to kill me, as you killed the Egyptian yesterday?’

ܘܥܪܩ ܡܘܫܐ ܒܡܠܬܐ ܗܕܐ ܘܗܘܐ ܬܘܬܒܐ ܒܐܪܥܐ ܕܡܕܝܢ ܘܗܘܘ ܠܗ ܬܪܝܢ ܒܢܝܢ
bnyn thryn lh whww dmdyn b're' thwthb' whw' hd' bmlth' mwsh' werq
Moses fled at this saying, and became a stranger in the land of Midian, where he became the father of two sons.

ܘܟܕ ܡܠܝ ܠܗ ܬܡܢ ܐܪܒܥܝܢ ܫܢܝܢ ܐܬܚܙܝ ܠܗ ܒܡܕܒܪܐ ܕܛܘܪ ܣܝܢܝ ܡܠܐܟܗ ܕܡܪܝܐ ܒܢܘܪܐ ܕܝܩܕܐ ܒܣܢܝܐ
bsny' dyqd' bnwr' dmry' ml'kh syny dTwr bmdbr' lh 'thkhzy shnyn 'rbeyn thmn lh mly wkd
“When forty years were fulfilled, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in the wilderness of Mount Sinai, in a flame of fire in a bush.

ܘܟܕ ܚܙܐ ܡܘܫܐ ܐܬܕܡܪ ܒܚܙܘܐ ܘܟܕ ܐܬܩܪܒ ܕܢܚܙܐ ܐܡܪ ܠܗ ܡܪܝܐ ܒܩܠܐ
bql' mry' lh 'mr dnkhz' 'thqrb wkd bkhzw' 'thdmr mwsh' khz' wkd
When Moses saw it, he wondered at the sight. As he came close to see, a voice of the Lord came to him,

ܐܢܐ ܐܢܐ ܐܠܗܐ ܕܐܒܗܝܟ ܐܠܗܗ ܕܐܒܪܗܡ ܘܕܐܝܣܚܩ ܘܕܝܥܩܘܒ ܘܟܕ ܪܬܝܬ ܗܘܐ ܡܘܫܐ ܠܐ ܡܡܪܚ ܗܘܐ ܕܢܚܘܪ ܒܚܙܘܐ
bkhzw' dnkhwr hw' mmrkh l' mwsh' hw' rthyth wkd wdyeqwb wd'yskhq d'brhm 'lhh d'bhyk 'lh' 'n' 'n'
‘I am the God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.’ Moses trembled, and dared not look.

ܘܐܡܪ ܠܗ ܡܪܝܐ ܫܪܝ ܡܣܢܝܟ ܡܢ ܪܓܠܝܟ ܐܪܥܐ ܓܝܪ ܕܩܐܡ ܐܢܬ ܒܗ ܩܕܝܫܐ ܗܝ
hy qdysh' bh 'nth dq'm gyr 're' rglyk mn msnyk shry mry' lh w'mr
The Lord said to him, ‘Take off your sandals, for the place where you stand is holy ground.

ܡܚܙܐ ܚܙܝܬ ܐܘܠܨܢܗ ܕܥܡܝ ܕܒܡܨܪܝܢ ܘܬܢܚܬܗ ܫܡܥܬ ܘܢܚܬܬ ܕܐܦܪܘܩ ܐܢܘܢ ܘܗܫܐ ܬܐ ܐܫܕܪܟ ܠܡܨܪܝܢ
lmtsryn 'shdrk th' whsh' 'nwn d'prwq wnkhthth shmeth wthnkhthh dbmtsryn demy 'wltsnh khzyth mkhz'
I have surely seen the affliction of my people that is in Egypt, and have heard their groaning. I have come down to deliver them. Now come, I will send you into Egypt.’

ܠܗܢܐ ܡܘܫܐ ܕܟܦܪܘ ܒܗ ܟܕ ܐܡܪܝܢ ܕܡܢܘ ܐܩܝܡܟ ܥܠܝܢ ܪܫܐ ܘܕܝܢܐ ܠܗ ܠܗܢܐ ܐܠܗܐ ܪܫܐ ܘܦܪܘܩܐ ܫܕܪ ܠܗܘܢ ܒܐܝܕܝ ܡܠܐܟܐ ܗܘ ܕܐܬܚܙܝ ܠܗ ܒܣܢܝܐ
bsny' lh d'thkhzy hw ml'k' b'ydy lhwn shdr wprwq' rsh' 'lh' lhn' lh wdyn' rsh' elyn 'qymk dmnw 'mryn kd bh dkprw mwsh' lhn'
“This Moses, whom they refused, saying, ‘Who made you a ruler and a judge?’—God has sent him as both a ruler and a deliverer by the hand of the angel who appeared to him in the bush.

ܗܢܘ ܕܐܦܩ ܐܢܘܢ ܟܕ ܥܒܕ ܐܬܘܬܐ ܘܬܕܡܪܬܐ ܘܓܒܪܘܬܐ ܒܐܪܥܐ ܕܡܨܪܝܢ ܘܒܝܡܐ-ܕܣܘܦ ܘܒܡܕܒܪܐ ܫܢܝܢ ܐܪܒܥܝܢ
'rbeyn shnyn wbmdbr' wbym'-dswp dmtsryn b're' wgbrwth' wthdmrth' 'thwth' ebd kd 'nwn d'pq hnw
This man led them out, having worked wonders and signs in Egypt, in the Red Sea, and in the wilderness for forty years.

ܗܢܘ ܡܘܫܐ ܗܘ ܕܐܡܪ ܠܒܢܝ ܐܝܣܪܝܠ ܕܢܒܝܐ ܢܩܝܡ ܠܟܘܢ ܡܪܝܐ ܐܠܗܐ ܡܢ ܐܚܝܟܘܢ ܐܟܘܬܝ ܠܗ ܬܫܡܥܘܢ
thshmewn lh 'kwthy 'khykwn mn 'lh' mry' lkwn nqym dnby' 'ysryl lbny d'mr hw mwsh' hnw
This is that Moses, who said to the children of Israel, ‘The Lord our God will raise up a prophet for you from among your brothers, like me.’

ܗܢܘ ܕܗܘܐ ܒܟܢܘܫܬܐ ܒܡܕܒܪܐ ܥܡ ܡܠܐܟܐ ܗܘ ܕܡܠܠ ܗܘܐ ܥܡܗ ܘܥܡ ܐܒܗܬܢ ܒܛܘܪܐ ܕܣܝܢܝ ܘܗܘܝܘ ܕܩܒܠ ܡܠܐ ܚܝܬܐ ܕܠܢ ܢܬܠ

This is he who was in the assembly in the wilderness with the angel that spoke to him on Mount Sinai, and with our fathers, who received living revelations to give to us,

ܘܠܐ ܨܒܘ ܠܡܬܕܢܝܘ ܠܗ ܐܒܗܬܢ ܐܠܐ ܫܒܩܘܗܝ ܘܒܠܒܘܬܗܘܢ ܗܦܟܘ ܠܗܘܢ ܠܡܨܪܝܢ
lmtsryn lhwn hpkw wblbwthhwn shbqwhy 'l' 'bhthn lh lmthdnyw tsbw wl'
to whom our fathers wouldn’t be obedient, but rejected him, and turned back in their hearts to Egypt,

ܟܕ ܐܡܪܝܢ ܠܐܗܪܘܢ ܥܒܕ ܠܢ ܐܠܗܐ ܕܢܐܙܠܘܢ ܩܕܡܝܢ ܡܛܠ ܕܗܢܐ ܡܘܫܐ ܕܐܦܩܢ ܡܢ ܐܪܥܐ ܕܡܨܪܝܢ ܠܐ ܝܕܥܝܢ ܚܢܢ ܡܢܐ ܗܘܝܗܝ

They made a calf in those days, and brought a sacrifice to the idol, and rejoiced in the works of their hands.

But God turned, and gave them up to serve the army of the sky, as it is written in the book of the prophets,
‘Did you offer to me slain animals and sacrifices

Which of the prophets didn’t your fathers persecute? They killed those who foretold the coming of the Righteous One, of whom you have now become betrayers and murderers.

You received the law as it was ordained by angels, and didn’t keep it!”
