ܘܒܗܘܢ ܒܝܘܡܬܐ ܗܢܘܢ ܟܕ ܣܓܝܘ ܬܠܡܝܕܐ ܪܛܢܘ ܗܘܘ ܝܘܢܝܐ ܬܠܡܝܕܐ ܥܠ ܥܒܪܝܐ ܕܡܬܒܣܝܢ ܗܘܝ ܐܪܡܠܬܗܘܢ ܒܬܫܡܫܬܐ ܕܟܠܝܘܡ
dklywm bthshmshth' 'rmlthhwn hwy dmthbsyn ebry' el thlmyd' ywny' hww rTnw thlmyd' sgyw kd hnwn bywmth' wbhwn
Now in those days, when the number of the disciples was multiplying, a complaint arose from the Hellenists against the Hebrews, because their widows were neglected in the daily service.

ܘܩܪܘ ܬܪܥܣܪ ܫܠܝܚܐ ܠܟܠܗ ܟܢܫܐ ܕܬܠܡܝܕܐ ܘܐܡܪܘ ܠܗܘܢ ܠܐ ܫܦܝܪ ܕܢܫܒܘܩ ܡܠܬܐ ܕܐܠܗܐ ܘܢܫܡܫ ܦܬܘܪܐ

The twelve summoned the multitude of the disciples and said, “It is not appropriate for us to forsake the word of God and serve tables.

ܒܨܘ ܗܟܝܠ ܐܚܝ ܘܓܒܘ ܫܒܥܐ ܓܒܪܝܢ ܡܢܟܘܢ ܕܐܝܬ ܥܠܝܗܘܢ ܣܗܕܘܬܐ ܘܡܠܝܢ ܪܘܚܗ ܕܡܪܝܐ ܘܚܟܡܬܐ ܘܢܩܝܡ ܐܢܘܢ ܥܠ ܗܕܐ ܨܒܘܬܐ
tsbwth' hd' el 'nwn wnqym wkhkmth' dmry' rwkhh wmlyn shdwth' elyhwn d'yth mnkwn gbryn shbe' wgbw 'khy hkyl btsw
Therefore select from among you, brothers, seven men of good report, full of the Holy Spirit and of wisdom, whom we may appoint over this business.

ܘܚܢܢ ܢܗܘܐ ܐܡܝܢܝܢ ܒܨܠܘܬܐ ܘܒܬܫܡܫܬܐ ܕܡܠܬܐ
dmlth' wbthshmshth' btslwth' 'mynyn nhw' wkhnn
But we will continue steadfastly in prayer and in the ministry of the word.”

ܘܫܦܪܬ ܗܕܐ ܡܠܬܐ ܩܕܡ ܟܠܗ ܥܡܐ ܘܓܒܘ ܠܐܣܛܦܢܘܣ ܓܒܪܐ ܕܡܠܐ ܗܘܐ ܗܝܡܢܘܬܐ ܘܪܘܚܐ ܕܩܘܕܫܐ ܘܠܦܝܠܝܦܘܣ ܘܠܦܪܟܪܘܣ ܘܠܢܝܩܢܘܪ ܘܠܛܝܡܘܢ ܘܠܦܪܡܢܐ ܘܠܢܝܩܠܐܘܣ ܓܝܘܪܐ ܐܢܛܝܘܟܝܐ
'nTywky' gywr' wlnyql'ws wlprmn' wlTymwn wlnyqnwr wlprkrws wlpylypws dqwdsh' wrwkh' hymnwth' hw' dml' gbr' l'sTpnws wgbw em' klh qdm mlth' hd' wshprth
These words pleased the whole multitude. They chose Stephen, a man full of faith and of the Holy Spirit, Philip, Prochorus, Nicanor, Timon, Parmenas, and Nicolaus, a proselyte of Antioch;

ܗܠܝܢ ܩܡܘ ܩܕܡܝܗܘܢ ܕܫܠܝܚܐ ܘܟܕ ܨܠܝܘ ܣܡܘ ܥܠܝܗܘܢ ܐܝܕܐ
'yd' elyhwn smw tslyw wkd dshlykh' qdmyhwn qmw hlyn
whom they set before the apostles. When they had prayed, they laid their hands on them.

ܘܡܠܬܗ ܕܐܠܗܐ ܪܒܝܐ ܗܘܬ ܘܣܓܐ ܗܘܐ ܡܢܝܢܐ ܕܬܠܡܝܕܐ ܒܐܘܪܫܠܡ ܛܒ ܘܥܡܐ ܣܓܝܐܐ ܡܢ ܝܗܘܕܝܐ ܡܫܬܡܥ ܗܘܐ ܠܗܝܡܢܘܬܐ
lhymnwth' hw' mshthme yhwdy' mn sgy'' wem' Tb b'wrshlm dthlmyd' mnyn' hw' wsg' hwth rby' d'lh' wmlthh
The word of God increased and the number of the disciples multiplied in Jerusalem exceedingly. A great company of the priests were obedient to the faith.

ܐܣܛܦܢܘܣ ܕܝܢ ܡܠܐ ܗܘܐ ܛܝܒܘܬܐ ܘܚܝܠܐ ܘܥܒܕ ܗܘܐ ܐܬܘܬܐ ܘܬܕܡܪܬܐ ܒܥܡܐ
bem' wthdmrth' 'thwth' hw' webd wkhyl' Tybwth' hw' ml' dyn 'sTpnws
Stephen, full of faith and power, performed great wonders and signs among the people.

ܘܩܡܘ ܗܘܘ ܐܢܫܐ ܡܢ ܟܢܘܫܬܐ ܕܡܬܩܪܝܐ ܕܠܝܒܪܛܝܢܘ ܘܩܘܪܝܢܝܐ ܘܐܠܟܣܢܕܪܝܐ ܘܕܡܢ ܩܝܠܝܩܝܐ ܘܡܢ ܐܣܝܐ ܘܕܪܫܝܢ ܗܘܘ ܥܡ ܐܣܛܦܢܘܣ
'sTpnws em hww wdrshyn 'sy' wmn qylyqy' wdmn w'lksndry' wqwryny' dlybrTynw dmthqry' knwshth' mn 'nsh' hww wqmw
But some of those who were of the synagogue called “The Libertines”, and of the Cyrenians, of the Alexandrians, and of those of Cilicia and Asia arose, disputing with Stephen.

ܘܠܐ ܡܫܟܚܝܢ ܗܘܘ ܠܡܩܡ ܠܘܩܒܠ ܚܟܡܬܐ ܘܪܘܚܐ ܕܡܡܠܠܐ ܗܘܬ ܒܗ
bh hwth dmmll' wrwkh' khkmth' lwqbl lmqm hww mshkkhyn wl'
They weren’t able to withstand the wisdom and the Spirit by which he spoke.

ܗܝܕܝܢ ܫܕܪܘ ܠܓܒܪܐ ܘܐܠܦܘ ܐܢܘܢ ܕܢܐܡܪܘܢ ܕܚܢܢ ܫܡܥܢܝܗܝ ܕܐܡܪ ܡܠܐ ܕܓܘܕܦܐ ܥܠ ܡܘܫܐ ܘܥܠ ܐܠܗܐ
'lh' wel mwsh' el dgwdp' ml' d'mr shmenyhy dkhnn dn'mrwn 'nwn w'lpw lgbr' shdrw hydyn
Then they secretly induced men to say, “We have heard him speak blasphemous words against Moses and God.”

ܘܫܓܫܘ ܠܥܡܐ ܘܠܩܫܝܫܐ ܘܠܣܦܪܐ ܘܐܬܘ ܘܩܡܘ ܥܠܘܗܝ ܘܚܛܦܘ ܐܝܬܝܘܗܝ ܠܡܨܥܬ ܟܢܫܐ

They stirred up the people, the elders, and the scribes, and came against him and seized him, and brought him in to the council,

ܘܐܩܝܡܘ ܣܗܕܐ ܕܓܠܐ ܕܐܡܪܝܢ ܗܢܐ ܓܒܪܐ ܠܐ ܫܠܐ ܠܡܡܠܠܘ ܡܠܐ ܠܘܩܒܠ ܢܡܘܣܐ ܘܥܠ ܐܬܪܐ ܗܢܐ ܩܕܝܫܐ
qdysh' hn' 'thr' wel nmws' lwqbl ml' lmmllw shl' l' gbr' hn' d'mryn dgl' shd' w'qymw
and set up false witnesses who said, “This man never stops speaking blasphemous words against this holy place and the law.

ܚܢܢ ܓܝܪ ܫܡܥܢܝܗܝ ܕܐܡܪ ܕܝܫܘܥ ܗܢܐ ܢܨܪܝܐ ܗܘ ܢܫܪܝܘܗܝ ܠܐܬܪܐ ܗܢܐ ܘܢܚܠܦ ܥܝܕܐ ܕܐܫܠܡ ܠܟܘܢ ܡܘܫܐ
mwsh' lkwn d'shlm eyd' wnkhlp hn' l'thr' nshrywhy hw ntsry' hn' dyshwe d'mr shmenyhy gyr khnn
For we have heard him say that this Jesus of Nazareth will destroy this place, and will change the customs which Moses delivered to us.”
