Privacy & data

Last updated: 9 May 2026

The Aramaic Root Atlas is an open-access scholarly tool. This page describes what data is collected, what is stored in your browser, and how to opt out of tracking.

What is collected

This site uses Google Analytics 4 (property G-XWZC618EC4) to measure aggregate usage: pageviews, browser and operating system, approximate country (city-level at most), and time on page. IP addresses are automatically anonymized by Google before storage. See Google's privacy policies.

The hosting provider (Render.com) keeps standard HTTP logs (IP, timestamp, requested path) for a brief retention window to support abuse detection.

The site does not require registration, does not collect personal identifiers, does not sell or share data with third parties other than Google Analytics, and does not use advertising pixels.

What is stored in your browser

  • localStorage — your language, script, theme (light/dark), translation track, bookmarks, and research notes. This data lives on your device and is never sent to the server. Clearing your browser cache will erase it.
  • Google Analytics cookies (_ga, _ga_*) — only if you accepted the cookie notice. The default state is tracking disabled.

How to opt out

Use the button below at any time. If you never accepted the cookie notice, you're already opted out.

You can also install the official Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on.

GDPR / EU users

If you are in the EU, UK, or another jurisdiction with similar data-protection laws: Google Analytics tracking only runs with your explicit consent via the cookie banner. Without consent, no tracking scripts load.
